I have never felt the same pride in my footy team as i did during that era. Take me back to that place.

There are times to work the line and times to use the corridor. A well drilled tean with the skills to execute a plan will cut the holes wherever they exist. Neeld and co will be preaching to the team what is required and when. The game plan won't be broken doen into a single phrase.

Feeling pretty buoyed actually, I reckon we have filled all positonal holes by 2014-2015 and addressed a dearth of skil and leadershipl and over supply of light bodies. This coming season is really hard to predict. Still have minor concerns about our ruck stocks and the small forward spots. And while our midfield may look great next year, this year is really a lottery. This season Neeld can start to form his football team, hopefully mid year we see some good glimpses of moving upward.

Ok maybe he will.

NAB CHALLENGE: GOLD COAST SUNS v MELBOURNE

Thats quite a bit We have a centre half forward, and a back flanker that can hit targets, two massive gaps that could be filled...and possbly a reserve KPF who has found some confidence. I think that there are some very good signs down back and up forward. I expect the resurgence of Frawley, the continued improvement of Dunn and Watts, the addition of Terlich. Up forward Byrnes and Kent, continued improvement from Howe, the addition of Dawes and the return of Clark. The concern for mine is whether we can fill the gaps in the guts, and how much Kent, M Jones, Rodan and Viney and whoever else can contribute. Add to this the massive addition of Hogan post 2014. It feels like we are building a proper footy side of strong bodied players with football skills,it feels right. Whether our midfield will be ripe enough to impact 2013 remains to be seen. I am actually pretty upbeat about the pre-season, because i can see that the pieces are being put together despite the underwhelming results. -
I think those days are over thankfully. Can anyone rate his endurance for interests sake?

The "style" is strangely familiar to me, it couldn't be? HT?

'Raising The Bar' ... 9 MFC players who must lift in 2013.

What.. the people that say that Jack Watts needs to go harder, or Col Sylvia needs to be consistent? How dare those Naysayers.. -
I know I will get some heat for this but I feel that regardless of what happens herein Neeld has been successful in his first phase of his attempts to reshape the football club. And that to me speaks of his ability to manage and direct. So now we wait to see if the next phase is successful.

Exactly what i thought when reading this thread..some bizarre ideas being expressed. -
Lloyd doesn't have respect for Melbourne. Respect is earned. I find he understands the game pretty well particularly the team and player psyche side of things. Stating the obvious, the effectiveness of the forward line and the back line are relative to the performance of the midfield. The midfield has been reshaped as a matter of necessity and will take some time to gel. Which is why it is so hard to get a handle on what we will serve up this season.

Still a major problem with comprehension by many on this site. There is a major difference between "assessing" a player in a frank and honest manner and "bagging". Some great contributions by some good footy observers on Grimes. Glenn Archer was a fairly effective straight line player along with countless other great backmen. Grimes is a natural backman, the sooner we can afford to get him back there the better.

That's about right, makes a very solid, potentially excellent half back.

Who are our best six in 2013, in 2015, in 2017?
jabberwocky replied to Dees2014's topic in Melbourne Demons
If Jack Watts is our best player in three years time we will be in real trouble. Probably the more relevant question is if those top six players would be in the best 100 players in the game. -
