  1. Exactly what I thought
  2. Jones kicking has always been technically sound, previously he ran himself into trouble often and disposed under pressure or tried attacking kicks that weren't on. Have been saying this for years. The flaw was a mental one rather than a physical one.
  3. Jordie does not have the strength to break clear that Jones possesses (or ling) and for those comparing him to Jnr he doesn't have the agility and toe to break clear that Jnr did. When he wins inside possession he doesn't possess the gifts to get himself into some space. I don't think he will be a whipping boy, most would love him to succeed. At this stage he remains a very limited footballer and possibly the least gifted on the list. It's a credit to his bloody minded determination that he is playing regular senior footy. A great bloke to have around the club and will probably eke a few more years out of his career.
  4. Lets face it, He has average kicking ability, is not particularly well built and is not quick. Desire and application keeps him on an AFL list. I have a lot of admiration for him.
  5. Thanks HG. Agree with many others that this has been an outstanding pre-season for training reports and on appearance the good vibe seems to be a little bit more tangible than the usual "training the house down" "best shape ever". The MFC stands before me in a sexy negliget beckoning me into the boudiour, hopefully it finishes up more 9 1/2 weeks than Basic Instinct.
  6. I'd have thought they would be different. The training top should be built for comfort.
  7. Former champion golfer and journalist jockey, Seve Ballesteros. "Make ficky ficky", I like that. Might use it.
  8. @CarowhineWilson Hear your workplace behavior is 'untenable' & 'bullyish'? Well that's just hearsay but figured I'd tweet it regardless
  9. Main point of difference I feel is the midfield. I think our back six could be stronger than thiers, and we lacked an effective small forward in 2012. If we can bridge the midfield gap my feeling is that our 22 will be stronger at the bottom end. In short we need a midfileder to perform like Cotchin and have solid and capable ball winners around him.
  10. Thought it deserved it's own thread, great read.
  11. Probably the most sensible post on the whole matter.
  12. You can be reasonably objective if you use evidence to draw reasonable conclusions. The differences can exist on the interpretation of the evidence and the definition of reasonable. Some reasonable conclusions on this thread have been reached according to what I deem reasonable based on the available evidence.
  13. Maybe we should start a thread for the realists, would it be lonely?
  14. edit: Of course it doesn't tell the whole story, but it tells a story. If it has been "managed" then the results are close enough to a profit to allow it to occur within a reasonable accounting framework. Dismissing the announcement as false just because it doesn't align with one's expectations is more fraudulent than adjusting a couple of figures. I am not referring to you Nasher. As a couple of posters have alluded to, we are spending a lot more on our FD than we have in previous years. Also as others have alluded to front loading contracts may compensate for the fact that we are not paying 100% of the cap. HT posted it as a good news story, which it is. Not a great news story or even a complete one, nevertheless a good one. I move on.
  15. At the risk of going over old ground, there is a limit on how much manipulation can be achieved and it is not something that can be sustained. It was also suggested that by others that previous boards would have has the same ability (to manipulate figures). I accept on face value that it is in an improvement on our position some years ago and that those involved have done well, being the board and the membership and corporate supporters. It is a moderate improvement which should be enjoyed in moderation.
  16. In this thread it is all entwined. Fan suspects books have been manipulated by board to show profit, Fan is accused of usual unreaonable bias against board. Rhino disagrees with assertion that a membership that financially supports it's club is a strength, calls people names and belittles those contrary.
  17. It is not in my nature to accept the status quo without question nor is it in yours I would imagine.
  18. Thats fine, my expectations of humanity are probably unreasonable, but why can't we make observations and conclusions about the consistently extreme opinions a moderator or any poster may post? And while we are on that why does one moderator consistently descend into name calling when contradicted?
  19. I would expect moderators to be moderate and reasonably objective. Some are just so predictably oppositional that they appear politically motivated rather than seeking the betterment of the MFC. Most of the moderating team do a very good job and provide good banter, and even the ones I joust with do a good job most of the time.
  20. Bumbling Clousseau himself would have been able to deduce the agenda of the person you are referring to, so transparent was his agenda so the reference is entirely accurate. Possibly he embodies the paltry investigative skill that I posesss, but in this instance it was all that was required As for the people, rather "person" you refer to a number of people here who are capable of independent thought formed the same opinion with no help from me whatsoever. Back on topic, what exactly did you expect in terms of financial figures in the circumstances and how could it have been improved?
  21. That's worth a LOL. My points of view are my own, I call it as I see it. Sometimes I get it wrong but on the most part my instincts serve me well. Cheers.
  22. I don't think anyone is dancing in the streets with the news that we turned a very small profit. It's akin to keeping afloat in a recession, a very long recession. You keep costs down and try to ride it out. Yes we are miles behind the power clubs, but we have a better outlook than some. MFC was a train wreck financially not long ago. Now the train just sits at the station waiting to be driven to it's destination and we are all waiting for it to get F)(&%^% moving. People forget that this is a football club, and our financial success is linked to our ability to play footy well, which we have not done for a long time.
  23. I do agree, but he is the 2nd best ruckman at the club and more capable than any of the others of influencing a result around the ground. If it was the matchwinning move on the QB I wouldn't complain, but I would hope that it wouldn't be his role week in week out.
  24. I have no idea what you are on about re false dawns and pinch hitting. As for a generous memberships, perceiving that as a weakness is more in line with what you are a accusing me of...I think. As is the negative assessment of turning a profit in difficult circumstances. So you and your bedfellows don't misunderstand me, I hold no loyalties to any board, players or coaches only the MFC. Objectivity is the name of the game. I really wonder if some people too tied up in the politics of the club will really be able to enjoy the success when and if it finally comes or if they will be too arrogant to admit their mistakes and bad calls. Would be very sad to finally pop the cork only to taste bitterness from the glass.
  25. My parents used the Billings Method as strict Catholics. I am the eldest of 7. Not sure what that means.
