  1. Updated article here: http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/the-afl-has-backed-melbournes-pokies-venture/story-fni5f91a-1226789065192 Big increase in revenue as in 2013 we pulled in $11.2m, that must be a huge boost in our revenue. If you look at our loss posted of around $3-4m with all our one off extras's its starting to look better. As our crap on field resulted in a $4m drop in normal game day revenue for the year. So if we get the boys up and running, not have to pay out salaries and restore that $4m the club is starting too look better financially as thats can be a very quick $8m turnaround.
  2. I was just looking at the revenue for each clubs poker machines. Ours has 2012 revenue but the figures are interesting. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/afl-clubs-reject-offer-to-help-reduce-reliance-on-poker-machine-cash/story-fni5f22o-1226788374023 We have the same number of machines as the big boys in some cases more but our revenue is well below. Carlton: Gaming-related revenue (GRR): $19.7m Machines: 290 COLLINGWOOD GRR: $22.1m Machines: 186 ESSENDON GRR: $13.7m Machines:: 190 GEELONG GRR: $13.7m Machines:: 180 HAWTHORN GRR: $18.5m Machines: 155 MELBOURNE GRR: $6.9m* Machines:: 180 I gather its related to location and type of clientele and I don't like them in general, lucky in WA we haven't been infected. But that is a massive difference in gross revenue for the club. I hope management is looking at increases the return of our non football income streams. Just imagine if we could boost it into the $13m in a short period of time.
  3. Obviously being our CEO is the only thing of note to link him to for an extra line of text.
  4. I like how Roo's flew to Perth to meet him, and his family a few days after being appointed. Fantastic work. Pity he's very expensive for DT.
  5. All the best for Dean. We should email the PAFC to wish him the best.
  6. Pity I liked the stars and the unfinished circle of our never ending quest...and the collar too. But i don't make the call.
  7. Without knowing what went on inside the club. Watters was good at subiaco, very successful and that is with a semi professional players. Yes its waffle level, but your dealing with guys that only commit part-time, have real jobs. IMHO if you were bad at people management you would lose such a club dry quickly, yet he was extremely successful. I say the problem is in management, which often comes out at the end of a successful period as success hides a lot of problems. As for be a Malthouse prodigy, waters came through a very different way to Neeld. but he seemed far more confident and certain in the direction the club was going, unlike need, which was evident int he interview not long before he was sacked!
  8. YEah, reading on what went on, he alienated all their young players...though IMHO they should learn to deal with a hard boss, bit it doesn't work that way anymore.
  9. Dew is coming out of the Sydney system, but also experienced the hawthorn ie Clarkson way of doing business. Roos would have some interaction with Dew's coaching from his until recent involvement with the swans academy so its not a blind guess. We have not also targeted the next flavour of the month, ie tudor/burns/sumich who just missed out of senior jobs etc. If you notice how Jackson and now Roos operated seems very planned and methodical. If they believe Dew is the one, we'll know for sure over the next 2/3 years as they can change their mind. But with the right development we can have a great coach as a successor..
  10. True but if you look at one of Roo's prodigy...Ross Lyon both clubs he has been too have results in player improvement and at least GF appearances. While Lyon is his own man he would have learnt many of his skills under Roo's ie Longmire, their players play for them and each other, a high difference that we have experienced since Northry. But you can also see other coaches her moved clubs for even more success..Roo''s is about getting the foundations right, which does include winning. edit: double quote
  11. it seems we need all our father/sons to move to S.A. as it looks like a good production line coming out of that state..of good hard footy players Interesting with the article. I could read it straight up on the iPad but got the paywall on the desktop?
  12. That was brilliant. Its a pity that we were so crap during his career that the amount of recorded highlights are so limited.
  13. I haven't read the entire thread, but he said on the news, Roos is going to push him into the midfield, which he was very excited about. Also stated the opportunity is now there for him, and its up to him to make it a success. Already Roos has put some desire in one of our players. Like it a lot.
  14. Roos was Mr fixit for Fitzroy. He went wherever the ball was, basically played where he saw fit and was their best player after the early eighties. After he moved to Sydney he had to learn to hold down one position, CHB. At the time he said it took a big change in how he approached his footy. Played the position very well as he is/was an extremely talented footballer IMO.
  15. Never thought we would get one. If we did I think it would have gone straight on the trade table anyway. With an experienced and determined coaching staff we will see significant improvement next year. But it must come from within the club and not a magic PP bullet. The only PP that I have noticed that made a massive difference was when we traded for White.
  16. Whether clubs drops really depends on the culture of the club. ie Swans, Cats...both very strong also they do attract players but do get squeezed by the salary cap eventually.
  17. Maybe we can turn it into a reality tv show...having assistant coaches competing each week for a spot until only 1 or 2 remain for Roo's to choose . Also create another revenue stream for the club...
  18. The senior assistant is now a long term permanent role in footy. Malthouse has ahd his own at every club. Robert Wiley from WCE has followed Mick to every one of his coaching gigs. also today given the importance of assistants, they are now a viable long term career path and some will never step to be a senior coach and that will suit some more than others.
  19. I agree..more important things and I like the emblem a lot.
  20. The main thing in the successor plan is the two very successful coaches who learnt under Roo's. Longmire and Lyon. Both have come out of the Roo's school coaching.
  21. If you watch the press conference it was unexpected by WC management. They looked shocked Local media mentions Scott Burns as a favourite. Unlikely to effect the Roo's story as how would it look for him to get this far and then skip to WC...besides Melbourne the city has far more on offer for his family.
  22. Sounds like a done deal. But until we get that signature anything can happen. Like may on here the decision with the family would have been decided long ago. As they already know whats involved AFL coaches in terms of demands on his family. Though it would be less so in Melbourne than Sydney as there would be less travel etc.
