  1. Spare a thought for Ryan Maric, who was picked up by West Coast in the Mid-Season Draft.
  2. I think Robbie's injury was to his shoulder/collarbone after being collected by Dipper. He could barely raise his arm and I doubt he could have played the next week. We'll never know, alas.
  3. Dan Butler has been offered one week by the MRP. Have they got it badly wrong or is this proof that the Butler did in fact do it?
  4. The banana kick (Campbell called it the "boomerang" kick) is not the same as the "around the corner" kick. They are kicked with the opposite foot - the banana with the foot nearest goal.
  5. Sorry @forever demons but I think you'll find that @La Dee-vina Comedia is on the money here. Blair Maesmore Campbell (20 August 1946 – 3 November 2020)[1] was an Australian rules footballer and cricketer. Campbell played first-class cricket for Victoria and Tasmania as a slow left-arm wrist-spin bowler and right-handed batsman. He also played in Victorian Football League for both Richmond and Melbourne Football Clubs during the 1960s. Campbell is considered one of the earliest exponents of the banana kick.[2][3]
  6. His best known nickname of course was 'Conan'. His inclusion in the Thugs side was a surprise to me.
  7. That Melbourne line-up boasted quite a lot of football talent. Interesting to note that Tom Hawkins' father Jack and uncle Michael (who only played the two games) as well as Matthew Scarlett's father John all ran out for Geelong that day.
  8. Yeah, what a flakey comparison.
  9. The Geelong game's still two weeks away. Clarry should be Mars Bar* ready for that one. * Just a variation on the tired and overdone "Cherry Ripe" cliche.
  10. Three weeks!
  11. I think that's Abbey Holmes, @drysdale demon.
  12. You don't know Melbourne's own Premiership player Tayla Harris, world surfing champ Mick Fanning or Melbourne Cup winning jockey Michelle Payne? As for Abbey Gelmi ... no idea what her claim to fame might be.
  13. Dave Granger, who had one of the all-time great nicknames of "Grave Danger"!
  14. Could we please have a drum roll followed by an emphatic "boom" and a "tish". All the players in this team had a father who also played VFL/AFL. The twist is that none of the fathers played for Melbourne. My sneaky "one day in September" clue was a reference to Fathers' Day. Other little hints scattered around include "Dad joke", "farther" and "sun". Thank you to all participants. I may post another of these during the long break post KB if there is enough interest.
  15. Nope, nothing to do with any member of the Irwin family.
  16. Ever seen a cat chasing and trying to catch a red dot directed from a laser pointer?
  17. @spirit of norm smith has done enough to join the list of winners and has just been accompanied to the solvers' club by @Roger Mellie. Well done to both. I'll post the reveal at about 9.30 this morning.
  18. Let's wait until the sun comes up tomorrow @Timothy Reddan-A'Blew! I'll see you all then. In the meantime, please welcome @Graeme Yeats' Mullet to the winners' circle.
  19. You did done good and answered correctly. That makes six posters who have worked it out. I'll leave the teaser up overnight for any latecomers.
  20. Not if you tacked it onto a previous discussion, @Timothy Reddan-A'Blew. I delete old PMs as a matter of course. Send it through in a new message.
  21. Congratulations to @tilly18, @Ethan Tremblay and @Neil Crompton for solving the mystery. Check your PMs @tilly18 for an explanation of the clue!
  22. Sorry about that misleading clue. It wasn't a reference to Grand Final Day at all. Just a little Dad joke you might say.
  23. I've been reliably informed that exposure to the sun isn't good for a blister.
