  1. To us this announcement came completely 'out of the blue' but I wonder if the Club might have had an inkling that it was 'in the wind' ...... hence the silence on pick 40. Anyway, good luck Dom on reconnecting with your roots, and thanks for taking the Club into consideration in the timing of your decision.
  2. There's a greater chance of me giving up the grog than there is of me not renewing my membership!
  3. Great work by PJ and his troops, I expect!! Let's make it a regular fixture, and rotate home ground benefits
  4. ...... or, if those in charge believe that Tappy offers something that most of us don't see, they might 'throw him a lifeline' by offering to rookie listing him a la Nev Jetta last year.
  5. That seems like utter b/s to me. He's definitely a cut above imo.
  6. I'm not sure why, but right from the outset I had a 'soft spot for Nev Jetta ........... even though I thought he had too many limitations to truly make it as a regular AFL player, even in a lowly team like Melbourne. Neville Jetta season review. As it turned out, he is a perfect example of what self-belief, a great attitude, and a great deal of hard work can do to take 'fringe' players to key role players in a Paul Roos coached team. It got me thinking, who else on our list is ripe to make the transition from fringe player to automatic best 22? Can fellow Demonlanders help me out?
  7. Any chance he'll slide to us?
  8. Base a decision purely on merit. Using the the write-ups, Tyler would be a 'project' player (probably a rookie) and not likely to be pressing for senior selection until well into Roosy's final year as senior coach. In any event, I wouldn't be the least bit concerned by having the pair at Melbourne. I recall quite a few around here having concerns about the Vineys' but there doesn't seem to be any downside to that, and going back to a different era, it worked outstandingly well for Norm and Barass. And just an afterthought, having Tyler on our list might even prolong Roosy's involvement in our Club in some capacity. That wouldn't be a bad thing.
  9. We will improve, but so will most of the others. I reckon: we can almost bank on solid progress from Salem and JKH; we should see improvements in the likes of Tyson, Kent, Gawn, Viney and Toumpas; between them, the recent trades will add some much needed run and carry, improved decision making, flexibility and proven goal kicking spark to our lineup; Hogan is almost a known quantity. His inclusion should add maybe 30 or 40 goals directly from him, as well as affording less attention to the likes of Dawes, Watts and the resting ruckmen, enabling them to kick a few more, as well as increasing goal-kicking opportunities for our crummers and mids. Combine these with: another year to practice and build on the Roos game style; the greatly improved knowledge that the coaching staff will have acquired about our current list (coming off a very low base); and with the luck that we surely deserve, a full pre-season from most of our list; and I think we will score 85 to 95 points per game more often than we will score sub-60 points. That will make us competitive in a lot more games, and earn us maybe 8 to 10 wins. A lot will need to go right (and it rarely has over the last decade) ............... but I've always been an optimist.
  10. Prima facie it seems overs for Frost, but I'm encouraged by the fact that the powers that be at Melbourne really wanted him. They have my trust and support.
  11. Frost for pick 23. Overs imo, but I'm encouraged by the thought that Roos et al must see a bright future for him.
  12. An adamant 'yes please' from me. I think I have read / heard somewhere that Roosy likes him a lot!
  13. Welcome to our great club Heritier, and thanks for taking a punt on the Dees. You won't regret it, I promise! Just for starters, you will have a decent coach for the first time in eons, and you will be rid of those so called 'supporters', who can be so feral that they have been known to wage an unprovoked post-match attack on the parent of opposition player, just for the hell of it. A massive rise in standards, which I'm sure you'll appreciate.
  14. The only positive I can think of, is that I'm very confident that the Club will do exactly that.
  15. Not clear to me at all. The Roos /Jackson administration has far too much integrity for that.
  16. ............... or maybe it's Matt Febey
  17. For those who weren't fortunate enough to see Robbie play: Martin Flanagan is to today's football writers, as Robbie was on the football field. Peerless!
  18. The pace and BS of the the various trade threads was doing my head in, so I decided to visit here for some light relief (first time since February, I think). I must admit, it's really testing my cognitive abilities.
  19. Ripper! Will add a new dimension to our forward line at effectively, no cost. Welcome Jeff, and great work by Messrs Taylor, Viney, Roos and anyone else involved from the MFC. Thanks to Mr Malthouse, Carlton's forward half is starting to look paper thin .... and that's not a bad thing either!
  20. A great, great, player and a great great man. I'm gutted and lost for words. Football doesn't matter anymore!
  21. One point that came across to me is that a three way trade between ourselves,Geelong and C'wood is very much on the cards. We get Lumumba, Geelong get Clark and Geelong gives up a player or pick to C'wood.
  22. In other words, the way I would expect both Roos and the Club to play the game ........... reflecting the ultimate professional culture that those at the top are trying to establish.
  23. I'm happy with the prospect of Merrett at a reasonable price. Imo he offers similar to what Frawley has given in the last couple of years, plus a bit more endeavor and a harder edge.
