DEMONLAND PLAYER OF THE YEAR - ROUND 1, 2015
Deeoldfart replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Outstanding team performance (how long is it since we've been able to say that?!) but as I'm restricted to 6 votes: 6. Tommy McDonald - Magnificent. Both solid as a rock and a great springboard. 5. Nathan Jones - Gave everything for the red and blue and led from the front, as usual. 4. Jack Watts - Right up there as one of his best games for the Dees. 3. Col Garland - Early days, but shades of the form he showed in 2013. 2. Jack Viney - Kept GAJ well under control for most of the game, and hurt him at every opportunity. 1. Jeff Garlett - the 'live-wire' small forward we have craved for years. Too many apologies to list them here, but the Demon debutantes showed that they are likely to be around for a long time! Credit must go to the recruiting, development and coaching staff! -
I'm as nervous as ALL HELL. Hope that's a positive omen! Go Dees!

You nailed it Elusive. Another of our favorite sons from the Glory Years is no longer with us. Vale Geoff.

........ and when he gets caught he bucks around on the ground, without making even a half genuine attempt the get the ball out. It's extremely obvious, and he gets pinged 9 times out of 10.

I agree Soi. Faith can only be blind after the years of heartache we have been forced to endure, and there is only one possible cure for the affliction that affects us!

Some mature age brides, no matter how sexy, are just far too expensive. Better to focus on the flat chested lass from up the road, who has all the hallmarks of being a late bloomer.

That's good news imo, and so is this quote from the article: "Chief executive Peter Jackson is out of contract at season’s end but has also given assurances he will remain at the helm next year."

Open training miscommunication - another MFC unforced error

That's a brilliant response from the Club. Keep up the good work MFC! -
Open training miscommunication - another MFC unforced error

I agree Wrecker. Like you, I'm normally in what you describe as the 'over reaction crowd', and yesterday I thought I could see yet another training thread being derailed by what I thought at the time was an overreaction to a relatively minor irritation. Now, having read both threads more closely, I can understand the disappointment and even anger that this issue has generated. My opinion has been swayed by the strength of feeling shown on Demonland, including from quite a few posters whose views I strongly respect. Clearly there is an underlying issue here which our Club needs to remedy. Let's hope they get the message and do so promptly. -

Thanks for the 'voice of reason' nutbean. I made the post to which you refer because I could see yet another training thread being derailed by what I thought at the time, to be an overreaction to a relatively minor irritation. Now, having read this and the related thread more closely, I can understand the disappointment and even anger that this issue has generated. My opinion has been swayed by the strength of feeling shown on Demonland, including from quite a few posters whose views I strongly respect. Clearly there is an underlying issue here which our Club needs to remedy, and it won't be fixed by simply 'papering over the cracks'. Edit: typo -

I wonder how many Demonland attendees have taken the time to have a shot the Club, but haven't taken the time to provide the rest of us with a few comments on the actual training. -

Melbourne v Fremantle @ Fremantle Oval - 5th March, 2015

The knot in my gut is starting to build ....... Jeebus! I know it's only NAB Challenge with no points riding riding on it, but my gut is clearly on a different wave-length to my brain. Edit: typo -
High-flyer, Dees begin contract talks All I have to say on this topic is: - it's great that we are on the front foot before the season starts; and - I hope it's a really short thread.

A little COMMON SENSE please!

Nope ...... I need it right now!

Players You Respect From Other Clubs
Deeoldfart replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
Gary Ablett jnr. will go down as one of the best of all time, and I find it impossible to go past him. He is an ornament to the game, both on and off the field. -
For me, the pass mark won't necessarily be determined in the W/L column. However, I want to go into maybe 15 or 16 games believing that we have a realistic chance of winning. If that occurs, confidence and form will improve, and I believe we will be in a sound position to push for a berth in the bottom half of the eight in 2016.

Jeff Garlett Misses Court Appearance
Deeoldfart replied to La Dee-vina Comedia's topic in Melbourne Demons
I agree SWYL, and importantly, I trust the current MFC people to deal with it in the appropriate way .......... taking account of the interests of both Jeff and the Club. Striking the right balance, without compromising standards, will be the difficult bit. -
Horrible, and way, way too young! Condolences to all.

Loving this thread DeeVoted - thanks! .................... but unfortunately I'm going to briefly [censored] the balloon of positivity. I still grieve that we missed a Flag in '58. We were clearly the best team at the end of the the H&A season, and strong favorites to make it four in a row. The Sporting Globe explained the third quarter (the defining quarter in the match) in the following way: "An explosive third quarter, featuring fights aplenty, saw Melbourne slip out of the game. Too many Melbourne players concentrated on evening-up, while the Magpies - with Weideman and Harrison the main instigators - shrewdly began the incidents, but left the rattled Demons to finish them. Melbourne's champion team was thoroughly out-manoeuvered." The great Ron Barassi himself acknowledged that if he and half of his team-mates had not been sucked-in to retaliating to the Collingwood knuckle, we would have won comfortably. The one that got away, and the foremost reason I will take my fervent hatred of Collingwood to the grave. Edit: Surely you can pric(k) a balloon without being offensive (lol)
