  1. Do the comments from the coach, captain and general manager - football operations give you pause for thought? They have hardly gilded the lilly re Jack needing to be more professional in his preparation.
  2. It is sad, and no doubt the club he arrived at was a shambles but if going into his 9th season he is not preparing like an elite athlete then what choice does the club have? What kind of example does it set to our young players if we tolerate Jack's sub elite preparation because he is a warm and friendly presence around the club and a skillful player? Still sad. I hope he gets a warm welcome whenever he plays the Dees and he fulfills his potential and gets to play finals.
  3. Plapp must know him pretty well having coached him at Dragons. Hopefully he will be more settled back in Melbourne with his family. Not all 18 year olds are mature enough to move to the other side of the country away from family and friends.
  4. Mentions he was coached at Under 18 level by Justin Plapp in one of his draft year interviews on youtube.
  5. Key issue for the Hawks is getting a CEO and Footy Department head who can say no to Clarkson. If Fagan and Evans were still at the Hawks they would likely have said no to Crazy Clarko's desire to get the Jaeger O'Meara at any price. Interesting times ahead for Hawks with many of their fans, and perhaps their rent a quote new old President, expecting Hawks will automatically return to Premiership contention. Last time Kennett took over Presidency they already had Hodge, Mitchell, Franklin and Roughead on their list. They don't have that elite young talent this time round and the pressure will be on O'Meara, and therefore Clarkson, if the former does not start playing elite footy next year after 3 forgettable injury prone years.
  6. How do we know what we're offering Lever? Fair range in supposedly authoritative takes on what we're offering, ranges from $700,000 a year to $900,000. I have confidence that Jackson and Mahoney are not the types to take risks with cap room. Jackson, in particular, must have learned from the Essendon salary cap debacle that saw Chris Heffernan join Melbourne for 3 insipid years of cheque collecting. Its fairly obvious that coaches and fellow players question Watts' ability to adhere to elite training and preparation standards and to play with a competitive edge week in week out. How can we accept that from a 26 year old with 9 years in the system and what example does that send to younger players. It'd be great if he stayed and did commit to being an elite athlete but I don't blame club for putting a rocket under him. Brayshaw is an elite midfield talent but how many concussions is he from retirement? Still other clubs know that too so can't imagine trade offers would make it worth our while.
  7. Too often slow to release and concedes a free. Too often misses targets by hand and foot. Can win contested ball. Can sometimes mark well overhead. Can Maynard do the same role? What value would other clubs place on Dom?
  8. Sadly the days of quantity netting quality are well in the past.
  9. I'm never one for extreme actions but if ritual sacrifice of descendants of that Board is seen as going too far then perhaps we dig up the remains of the Board members, chrematoriumise and sprinkle on the G.
  10. Umpires make mistakes. Its a tough game to umpire. Our players need to better ie J Lewis should hit up the 30 metre target when in space rather than miss and see the resultant turnover lead to a Grundy goal.
  11. I most humbly apologise for throwing a fact into the mix.
  12. So you reckon he could not catch Sam Mitchell or Matt Priddis? His draft camp 20 metre time was 3 seconds so not quick but not treacle slow if he can get back to that.
  13. or Priddis who gets slower by the week. It'd be a truly memorable Dees moment if Trenners come in and shows he is still AFL quality. Imagine the reception he'd get next Friday night at the G!
  14. "There's so many zeros that I've put my contract talks on hold till my manager has bought a new calculator"
  15. do we assume use in this context is median average?
  16. Lets hope that now the AFL has got its CBA done with the AFLPA they can lend some negotiating knowhow and common sense to Cricket Australia who seemingly find new ways every day as 1 July looms to make their players feel disrespected.
  17. Only issue I have with Lever is that sometimes he tries to mark when he should punch and the ball falls to his feet instead of being fisted clear towards the boundary line. Minor quible only. Possibly an issue for all of the better intercept markers.
  18. Trengove can reliably kick the ball to a player wearing the same jumper as he is which is a plus given the propensity of many of our players to collectively miss targets for entire quarters or halves.
  19. When not dropping at the knees Joel Selwood is actually 7 Foot 5 Inches...
  20. Yeah cause sports from overseas ain't gonna come here and take our best athletes and our fans sporting dollars. Should go back to the VFL days too.
  21. I like his even temperament in the coaches box. I like the fact that he is a clear and concise communicator. He says in very few words what wafflers like Buckley or Chris Scott take an eternity to get out.
