  1. JKH is a better winger than Tyson. Tyson can win contested ball but he is one paced, gets caught in possession too often and his disposal is unreliable. All in all not a winger and I imagine he realises he will struggle to play regular senior footy at the Dees next year and beyond as we look to get more run in the team. Still there are clubs who lack contested ball winners who he could play a role for over the next few years like the Blues. My guess from a club perspective is that he is probably on a contract that pays him pretty well and they see him struggling to play every week so want contract off the books to create salary cap room.
  2. Arent there already pathways for elite juniors?
  3. What are his 2018 positive onfield attributes? Lets see: Slow Ill disciplined Lacks composure Unreliable disposal Struggling to see above attributes warranting a place in in any AFL team's 22.
  4. Lewis is a great of Hawthorn - 4 flags and a BnFin a flag year - but the game has passed him by. Treacle slow, ill disciplined and with ever worsening composure and disposal. Wonder exactly who Goody thought he could match up on in Eagles forward line. I could not find one. If he wants his 2019 dollars we tell him he'll play entire season for Casey. Hopefully he retires without a settlement for 2019 contract.
  5. Hogan may be big bodied but he is not a contested marking beast. Does not read the high ball so struggles to get in a good position. Does not have a good standing jump. Is not a one grab overhead mark. All of these limit his effectiveness as a marking target close to goal. Having said that he has good endurance, reads the play and passes the ball well so is ideally suited to a high half forward role. I'd love to see him playing in that role with Weid and Tommy Mac rotating deep. He's said feels pretty settled in Melbourne and after experiencing some years it'd be hard to forsake the Dees when they finally have potential to play finals consistently for a rebuilding Freo side and the increased travel load. But the lure of home and undoubtedly big dollars is always there. I'd only entertain a trade if he requested one.
  6. Weed took 3 overhead contested pack marks that Hogan would not. Weed as FF/2nd ruck, Hogan mobile CHF hitting up to wing, Tommy Mac roaming the forward 50.
  7. Well I watch Jesse play. Its not percentage play to kick long to him unless he is on the lead. Does not read the ball in the air. Does not get in the best position. Does not jump at the ball. Often does not get his hands to the ball. Does not take too many 1 grab marks. All in all these attributes will always limit his effectiveness zero to 30 metres out from goal which is where a full forward/key forward should be at his best and where they differentiate from small and medium forwards. More generally Jesse does not have a repeatable goal kicking technique and his positioning and leading patterns need work. Weidemann can jump at the ball and will get his hands to more high balls.Has been in good from for Casey. Of course we are in the RIchmond Small Ball era so a mid/small may come in.
  8. I'd back Weid to be a better target for bail out kicks to 0 - 30 metres out from goal than Hogan. Weid reads the flight better, can jump at the ball, and gets his hands to more high balls than Hogan. Not damning Hogan. Just think his skillset is better suited to a mobile forward role.
  9. In your mind what are the attributes of a key forward and how do Hogan's attributes match?
  10. Hogan is not a Full Forward. If you are playing Full Forward you need to be able to read the flight of the ball in the air to get in the right position, have speed to gap opponent in 5 to 10 steps, jump when flatfooted and take one grab overhead marks. These are all attributes Hogan lacks. It also helps to have an easily repeatable goal kicking technique! In essence Hogan's attributes are much more suited to playing as a mobile medium forward. Unless he is matched up to a midfielder kicking long and high to Hogan is not a percentage play.
  11. I don't deny that Lewis has footy smarts but in 2018 AFL footy demands a minimum level of athleticism. Lewis does not reach that level. I can't see him matching up with either Butler or Caddy. Butler in particular would be way to nimble for Lewis. If he played on Caddy he'd have to be an accountable man on man defender rather than an inside mid transplanted to quarterback of the half back in twilight of career.
  12. The following challenge remains open! "The Tigers will name their team tonight. Try and find a Tigers forward Jordan Lewis can keep up with."
  13. The Tigers will name their team tonight. Try and find a Tigers forward Jordan Lewis can keep up with. He is a 4 time premiership player and a great of the Hawthorn Football Club but Lewis is too slow to play at AFL level in 2018. One of the footy shows showed footage of Lewis getting caught out as our deepest defender and having no chance of keeping pace with his opponent charging into their forward 50 as Port rebounded. His footy smarts are now best used as a development coach. Old Father Time catches up with all players. I can understand why he wants to keep playing, lets not forget that he rejected a 2 yr deal to move and we caved and added a year. I don't blame him for that but my expectation of Simon Goodwin is that he will pick the best 22 each week irrespective of reputation. If he keeps picking Lewis then he is not doing that.
  14. Lewis has reached the stage where the best use of his footy IQ is off field. In every game he'll have to try and beat an opponent to the ball. How many Top 8 teams have forwards he can beat to the ball?
  15. And yes Lewis is cooked. If he does not want to retire immediately then he can mentor kids at Casey till end of this season, or end of season 2019 if he want s to play on. Treacle slow, goes to ground and kicking is unreliable. Top 8 teams just don't seem to play treacle slow half forwards in 2018 for some reason so he just will never have a match up.
  16. Weid is much more effective than Hogan close to goal. Jumps better when flat footed and actually puts 2 arms up in the air towards the ball. Also a more effective Gawn reliever than Harmes, Pederson, Smith. Weid at full forward and Hogan to roaming always on the move Centre Half Forward role.
  17. If you are not a key defender, and probably even if you are, if you are playing in defence you need to be able to run and rebound. Lewis provides neither. Vince is not much better. Media types drool over their kicking but both are now prone to regular turnovers by foot. every opponent Lewis lines up on will beat him to a contest or run away from him. I'd be happy to see both dropped with Petty and Hunt (if fit, was on crutches at the G) in. Petty allows Hibberd to play a more attacking role. Hunt to provide run and carry.
  18. They way he moves reminds me of Hoppy. Hopefully an improved Hoppy. He is pint sized but the game has evolved in the favour of sub 180 players over the last 2 years.
  19. Watch any AFL Grand Finals over the last 2 years?
  20. No Ginger Baker/Cream gags. Disappointing.
  21. Club Polos should never be worn with suit pants.
  22. Succumbing to Trade Radio for the first time this trade period. I feel so dirty.
  23. Carlton's 2018 second rounder may not be too many picks later than the 2017 Pick 16 in a more highly rated draft.
  24. Lever will start his first season with the Dees having just turned 22. Dangerfield started his first season with the Cats about to turn 26. Dangerfield was also a free agent so Cats we really doing Crows a favour by trading. Watching Crows reel to celebrate Lever's 50 milestone has me satisfied with deal. 21 year old 195 cm elite intercept marker and spoiler, plays long ie marks/spoils with arms fully extended. Has nice competitive edge. Our defence will love playing alongside Jake.
  25. High draft picks are not an end in themselves. It is a high price but rarely does a 21 year old with Lever's talents move clubs. Elite intercept mark & spoiler, in the American parlance Lever 'plays long' ie contacts the ball with his arms fully extended when marking and spoiling.
