Sad state of affairs when the only bloke on our horizon is Adam Saad! Geez, how long were we a destination club for, 5 minutes?
-
The simple fact is that we are in this position because we lost to two sides we should have beaten. St Kilda, Bulldogs and Collingwood will be playing finals because they have won that one or two crucial games that mattered. Which is why at this very point those clubs have gone past us as far as development goes. Hopefully we can get back on the right side of the ledger next year
-
Is anyone going to question why this particular game should be played in WA, when all the current teams in the finals are in QLD? Why should the Eagles be getting a home final for finishing 5th, when potentially teams that finish above (Richmond, Geelong) could potentially be the “home” team in a prelim playing Brisbane in Brisbane? Why are the AFL making this so hard, with quarantine periods, allowing one club to fly between states just for the sake of a final? Why should the Eagles get that privilege when they finish 5th in a year where there is no normal?

Always remember his dad saying, when he was about to play his first game, “ just take em son, just take em on”. And that is exactly what he will do when he becomes a lock in our best 22.

Compensation pick would be 19. From last 2 drafts, Sam de Koning and Liam Stocker. Would you like to reconsider?
-
And Max and Trac could follow
-
Ok, will rephrase.....Gun free agents, who have not tasted the ultimate success, only go to clubs with premiership potential. So Cameron won’t come here
-
Big name free agents only go to clubs with a chance of premiership success
-
Don’t think so. One, he is contracted. Two, he is undergoing surgery and will be sidelined up to 3 months. Really don’t think another club will come sniffing under that scenario.
-
It was only earlier this year that a couple of Geelong supporting mates were the saying the same about Scott we are now saying about Goodwin. And I guarantee those noises will start again when they get bundled out in straight sets again
-
The article did suggest Collingwood as a possible suitor. Although it was stated that his contract would have to be spread out over 3-4 years due to their tight salary cap. Don't know how this works, but given that he will be 29 next year I cannot see that happening
-
2 years to run on his contract
-
Mitch Cleary on the AFL site suggesting Tom should look elsewhere next year. Mentioned Essendon and Collingwood as possible homes. Based this on the presumption that we do not want him as we picked Preuss against Freo. Says he still has something to offer, cited the fact he kicked 4 goals in a semi final in 2018. Clearly has not done his research or seen Tom play this or last year. So there you go, maybe some good will come out of this year after all!

Sorry Rusty, but I do not agree with you here. The players have pretty much played the same role week in week out. Now whether that’s in the wrong role is open to discussion. In fact it is a major complaint from most that Goodwin doesn’t change things. Have said it before, the reason we are where we are is simply we are not good enough as a collective group. The bottom 6-10 players picked each week are just not top AFL standard. The same can be said about 10 other clubs.

ANOTHER WASTED SEASON WHAT DO WE HAVE TO LOOK FORWARD TO?
bobby1554 replied to WERRIDEE's topic in Melbourne Demons
But didn’t we have that bloke from the Premier League? -
He is a restricted free agent, so other clubs do not have to trade for him. If he wants to go, we either accept it, and get a compensatory draft pick based on his contract value, or we match the offer and he stays.
-
Agree. Add to that the coaching staff are unable to progress the few good players we have. Unless the club changes this soon, even the good players we have will seek to further their careers elsewhere
-
Fremantle's last 5 games scores- 29, 53, 50, 36 and 48. Have only gone above 60 twice this year. Having said that they have the 3rd least points against. Seems they rely on a defensive game plan. So if we can get some forward connection I think we will win.
-
If you do the eyes first Coach, you can save yourself the second!
-
Tom is contracted until end of 2022, on pretty hefty coin. No one is going to take him on that basis. He has zero trade currency.
-
Bulldogs about to go past us. West Coast are very ordinary
-
Well done Christian. Probably the only player on the list to have improved from last year, which is a testament to the work he has done. My only hope is that he remains in red and blue once his contract ends in 2022. He will be a restricted free agent then, and I can see him seeking team glory elsewhere.
-
Geez, we are all feeling pretty low at this point in time, and you start this thread!
-
Why is it any different here?
-
I would argue that none of Jackson, Pickett or Rivers are “AFL standard” at this moment. That is not to say they will not become so next year. None would get a game with any of the top 4 clubs at the moment. And Hibberd definitely not, even though he is having a better year than past. So that leaves us pretty thin. Which is why I have been saying for the past month or so that a lot of posters over rate our list. As to trading for quality, we don’t have a lot of currency. We don’t have a first round pick this year. And quality free agents want to go to a club where they can see a premiership in the next couple of years. And that definitely isn’t us.
