NAB CHALLENGE: GOLD COAST SUNS v MELBOURNE
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Gorgoroth's topic in Melbourne Demons
Except for our two best backs, two best forwards and then add Blease, Viney and Trengove for good measure. -
Ex Dees who fire up after they leave
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to DeeZee's topic in Melbourne Demons
Those gushing over Moloneys game are probably the same that loved him at Melbourne. Even the commentators stated despite his many clearance wins he had 14 touches to half time with 6 turnovers. What's the point of a clearance if you just blindly bang it long. Looks trimmer but still hasn't helped him chase. Best of luck to him but didn't see anything to miss tonight. -
If Viney plays ok (not great) next week and plays round 1 has he earnt his spot?
-
His second half last week he did some seriously classy things. I expect a strong effort tomorrow might get him over the line. There should be no more putting games into kids, you earn them or you play at Casey.
-
I am hoping we dont take anyone into round 1 with no games. If Blease, Clark, Dawes and Trenners cant play next week they should come back through Casey.

Thanks Hards. So of the 6 teams that were the last finalists only one played the Geelong brand. Were all of them aside from Adelaide undeserving? What makes you so adamant this is the right way to go? Do you think the Geelong brand or the Collingwood brand will be more suited to a capped interchange next year. I think either style can be successful if executed well. Really that comes down to what the coach thinks can bring success. Like others I'm not sure yet whether Neeld can coach yet and we will learn a lot this year.Separate note on 186, when Jurrah lined up on Bartel on the wing at the first bounce I was ready to go home.
-
If you think his kicking is above average I cant take anything you say seriously. Has pace agree, has pace also agree and finally yes I agree he has pace. Agree McKenzie gives his all and tackles well but he is a liability when we have the ball. We are more or less playing one down in the middle.

I believe most MFC supporters want us to play a brand of football that gives us the best chance to succeed. Can you advise whether Sydney or Hawthorn played the Geelong brand last year? Who aside from Geelong is playing the Geelong brand? Aside from some of our poor skills at times yesterday I saw nothing wrong with our style from a viewing perspective.

Luke Tapscott - Another one of BP's Specials?
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to olisik's topic in Melbourne Demons
Tapscott had a couple of great moments in the first and last quarters yesterday but went missing in between. Half forward is his spot at present but he needs to be able to go hard for longer and stay involved. -
On way home from game. Take out the second qtr where we were caught flat footed and they got over the back of the press too easily we were much improved with our attack at the contest and structure. Jamar easily BOG with limited opposition though Garland aside from one brain fade played an excellent game on Milne and counter attacking. I don't know what others saw that I missed. M Jones and Terlich really started to look the part second half. Jimmy T not ready yet based on today. Our first quarter press was the best I have ever seen us implement it. It fell apart as we tired. We lacked crumbers especially considering we had no Clark or Dawes. Pretty sure I saw Daveys last game in red n blue today. Some on here lack realistic expectations. Our structure and run has improved but we still have players who lack the decision making and disposal to play consistently at top standards. Most importantly no injuries that were noted.

Luke Tapscott - Another one of BP's Specials?

8 tackles is a good effort or it means he was second to the ball alot. Without seeing the game hard to know. -

Lil_red_fire_engine replied to olisik's topic in Melbourne Demons
I agree he is 187cm. That is a tall mid. -
Backs:Jetta, Frawley, Garland Half Backs: Dunn, T-Mac, Watts Centres: Grimes, Sylvia, Terlich Half Forw: Blease, Dawes, Howe Forwards: Pederson, Clark, Byrnes Rucks: Jamar, Jones, Rodan Interchange: Viney, Trengove, M Jones Sub: Toumpas Emergencies: McKenzie, Sellar, Tapscott Assumption that Clark, Trengove and Blease are fit. People should ignore that 5 of our back 6 are over 190cm. I think it is very flexible with Watts and Dunn able to play on talls and smalls and good ball users. I dont rate McKenzie or Nicholson but accept at least Jordie will play. I expect this to change again after tomorrow as its fair to say aside from the usual suspects and maybe Jetta no one I think has cemented a spot based on NAB cup form that was not already starting 18 last year. Updated based on the StKilda game In Terlich; M Jones Out Evans Magner

Luke Tapscott - Another one of BP's Specials?
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to olisik's topic in Melbourne Demons
Wines is a tall bullish mid with a good tank. I can't understand your comparison. I don't see Tapscott as a whipping boy as I am not seeing criticism of his endeavour or courage purely that his output may not fit the pick we chose to use on him. -

Lil_red_fire_engine replied to olisik's topic in Melbourne Demons
Is Tapscott a good kick or a long kick? Where is his role? Is he capable of playing midfield as is required of most non key positions these days. Aside from body size is he above average in endurance or speed or agility. Needs a clear run at it but I struggle to work out where he fits or if he has a tool that will get him above others. -
Its pretty obvious that those rested who are not injured are locked for round 1. The others are in development or playing for the remaining spots.
-
Foot currently in mouth and happy to leave it in there for the next 10-12 years. However the second part still applies, even with the addition of Viney and Toumpas we are short class mids and to get him we have potentially given up one. I will take an A grade midfield with a B Grade forward line over the opposite which may still be our position.

Colin Garland - Time to get it right!
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Soidee's topic in Melbourne Demons
Typical Garland game. Played solid footy for 95% of the game but then did monumental errors for 5% which is all anyone remembers including me. -
NAB CUP 1: NORTH MELBOURNE AND RICHMOND
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to rpfc's topic in Melbourne Demons
Main Positives: we stuck our tackles, hogan, watts (reminded me of enright at his best) Main disappointments: lack of run off halfback, no major impact from the experienced newbies, same player make same mistakes Not bad but not great. -
NAB CUP 1: NORTH MELBOURNE AND RICHMOND

You are assuming they are fit enough to play? I would say this would be more to do with soreness or injury. -
Let it be said that I was not at the intra, and have not seen any preseason this year. However it has always been said that intra's are always scrappy because both sides understand what the other sides strategy is intimately and are playing with the same plan. You are also playing with an entire squad that means you are creating more a VFL quality contest. Watch any of the NAB cup games so far and all sides have had more touched balls, shanks and errors than you would likely see all year. Why because they are not polished yet, do not have game fitness and are like playing 30% of players who would not make their best 22. Without being able to see with my own eyes I will take the words of those who can compare previous pre-seasons in context than those that are just equating a scrappy affair with a lack of improvement.

Here is where your argument falls down. -
It's a practice match with some good promotion for indigenous football and nothing more. The cost to televise would not be worth it. I am surprised it was even streamed.

It's hard to turn it over if you don't get your hands in the ball in the first place. The only number that matters is % of turnovers against disposals. -

Why? our midfield is unproven and needs some skilled mature bodies. He looked best last year as a mid resting forward rather than a forward with occasional midfield stints.
