PRE MATCH DISCUSSION & TEAM SELECTION
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I expect the bench to be McKenzie, Tapscott, Davey, Jones. Happy that we have not brought in a tall just for the sake of playing one. Gawn, Pedersen with Howe deep should give them a target. -
People are assuming that Strauss will crack under pressure. People saw round one that Nicholson does crack under pressure. There was nothing soft about Strauss game last week. Jettas suspension creates a need to bring a small defender in options are Nicho, Strauss or possibly Dunn straight back.

The difference between a pick #4 & pick #48

I agree. Alot are rating him based on 40 minutes against North and a match report against an underage Port. I watched him on the weekend, he was the least effective player in the first half, was good in the third and just went in the last. I do agree though that Jimmy did not earn a round 1 game and will be better developed getting some solid Casey form. -
Do people who want Kent in see him play on the weekend? He had 3 touches to half time and looked disinterested. Granted he was ok after half time but he is not deserving or ready for the step up.
-
He needs to learn to hit a target.
-
They love Nicho's application but have found his weaknesses are too glaring. Its hard for Strauss to play a good game if he is not given an opportunity. His Casey is form is good and Nicho had his chance.

Terlich?

Assuming Viney is injured although not mentioned in list. Assume they will play Sellar but I would go with more run. In Strauss, McKenzie, Rodan Out Jetta, Clark, Viney

DEMONLAND PLAYER OF THE YEAR - ROUND 4
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
6. Byrnes 5. Jones 4. Evans 3. Garland 2. Trengove 1. Gawn Honourable mention to Grimes and Sylvia who were important in dragging us back in the last. -
It's close to impossible to keep a lid on expectations with Hogan. He has evey attribute you want, strength, speed, football smarts, a bit of mongrel and alot of swagger. Couple that with what will end up surpassing Franklin and Kennedy as the most talked about set shot routine in football.
-
I tend to agree that If he showed the committment to run hard both ways the wing in a role similar to what Richo played late would be his best position for the side. If he is willing to work it is hard to tag a player of his size.
-
Bate looks like he has not had a meal since the day he was delisted.
-
Toumpas did not play. Not much not to like. Hogan , Strauss, Spencer and Couch best of the MFC for mine. Taggert very exciting but drifted in and out. Would not be surprised if Jordie had 40 touches but very choppy with the ball.
-
Kent given big wraps by the coach for his third qtr efforts.
-
Dominant quarter by the Scorps 19.9.123 EFC 7.12.54 Kent with6 or so touches and a goal. Not even MFC could screw up Hogan becoming anything less than superstar.
-
2 early goals to Hogan in the third
-
To buy in defensively you need to show effort which he unfortunately hasn't in the first half.
-
Half time Casey 11.6.72 EFC 6.8.44 Rodan,Couch and Taggert prominent. McKenzie lots of ball but poor disposal. Kent I believe has not touched it in the first half.
-
Qtr time Casey 4.2.26 to EFC 3.4.22 Best players Strauss, Hogan, Spencer and Page. Hogan 5 kicks 2 handballs 3 marks
-
On my way to Windy Hill now for the Hogan Show. Will endeavour to post quarterly updates.

Great to see Gawn in the side. After last week Jones, Evans and Bail would all be locks to play so it really is just about that 4th bench spot. I would not be surprised to see Jimmy get one more to play against a younger side and maybe enjoy a win,.The whole Watts handling makes no sense. He gets subbed, gets dropped, Neeld says he knows what he has to work on, he then doesn't play anywhere last week then gets named back in the 18. WTF
-
Wines could end up Selwood or Daniel Harris or anywhere in between. Wines and Viney are exceptions to the rule. Not the rule. Not many kids come out and burn in their first 20 games and those that do rarely do it in a team being put to the sword. Those that do dont have it easy their whole career.

I will be honest up front and state I work for Foxtel in the area of product development (some of you know this already). My personal opinion is I actually like it as it stops me flicking between games to see the score unless there is some relevance e.g: I turned over for the final minutes of Cats v Blues when it got tight towards the end. To me its not much different to being at the G yesterday and having the Swans/Roos scores on the big screen. I can however see how it would be an annoyance for others. Such a decision is made by the production teams at the Fox Footy channel and I will pass this feedback on via my contacts. NB: this is not an opportunity to slam me with a ton of feedback/questions regarding Foxtel but I feel in this case such feedback is relevant for me to deliver.
