Changes for Round 4 vs. GWS
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Good Times Grimes's topic in Melbourne Demons
Out: Davey, Sellar, Toumpas, Pederson In: Kent, Gawn, McKenzie, Watts I think Daveys effort has significantly improved he just cant sustain it for extended periods. Whilst I don't rate Jordie you have to wonder what Watson and Priddis stats may have looked like had he played the last 2 weeks. Toumpas needs some time at Casey to find form and confidence. Gawn to play second ruck will offer a massive mismatch forward and reduces the pressure on a straight swap for Jamar. Sellar is not needed forward or back this week. Watts to play third tall forward all game. Pederson not doing enough as a forward if not required as second ruck. -
The Selwood of this draft already plays at MFC.

Jordan Gysberts should show you that early nominations and high possession counts don't bring definites. As for friends with Jack, this is not suburban footy. It should have nothing to do with decisions made.
-
Neeld said in his presser said Toumpas looked like he needed a breather. There was nothing wrong with giving the kid a look in early. There would be something wrong to keep playing him. He has had a taster now let him go and work on his game and confidence. Anyone that saw him play the champs knows he is quality but he needs time to adjust to the pace and intensity. As for Wines over him FMD. Whitfield had 12 touches and Plowman 5 GWS must be really spewing they didn't take Wines at pick 1.

This is on paper the most balanced team we have fielded with the right mix of talls, inside mids and run. Bail, Jetta and Evans will add plenty of defensive actions and spread even if they are likely to chop the ball up occasionally. Keen to see what Peds and Tapscott have learnt after their demotion. Would love to see Grimes back marshalling off half back and Sylvia given the job on Priddis but doubt it will happen. 5 players with less than 5 games doesn't bode well for victory but today is all about effort and moving forward.

The same people that wonder why our kids don't develop are the same people that seem to not want to drop them and gift them games "for their development". Funny that.

He was doing a pretty good job with him second half of last year.

I am amazed at the love for Watts and Blease. Watts was the poorest player over the first 6 quarters of football we have had in both effort and output. Amazingly the best footy he played last year was after he was sent back to Casey to find the footy and earn a spot. Blease was awful last week in accountability and defensive effort. The same can be said for Rodan. The changes made are based on effort not output alone. Surprisingly we have bought in players in bail, Evans and Jetta who run hard and have defensive aspects. Pederson and Tapscott is reward for going back and playing well and addressing points of weakness. I would have dropped Jamar but its alot to ask Gawn to come in against Cox. i think Gawn is one more poor Jamar performance away from a run at the giants in round 4

You think Clark prior to his injury scare last week was a liability? Clark proved that him half match-fit was more dangerous than any other forward that we have by a long way. Some players offer you a ton more being managed in your AFL side than at Casey. He is one of them.

PRE MATCH DISCUSSION & TEAM SELECTION

The Power will get up in a harder fought contest than they faced last week -
A bit of momentum versus managing our most important players recovery. Pretty simple to me.

Just a game - a toast to my old man

Possibly my favourite post in 8 years on Demonland. -

I agree. We are playing a tall too many again in our back 6. -

Round 2: Team Selection and Match Ups

Where was this grunt that Tapscott offers last week. He was very poor and deserves to be dropped. I agree Toumpas didn't provide much but he ran to space which is more than most and I support the idea of not dropping guys after their first game. They ned the chance once the nerves have gone to apply what they learnt. -
Round 2: Team Selection and Match Ups

Cant disagree with the outs. Would have added Gillies as he was poor and that back half lacks run again. Would have also dropped Nicho but is likely needed for their smalls. I would expect Rodan is due to defensive acts rather than anything he did with the ball. -
No one is saying he is quick. Everyone is recognising he was treacle last year. What most are missing is that there was a marked difference in his movement last year compared to previous. An early video with Misson in the preseason admitted that he played heavy last year and would be trimmed back particularly through the legs. Trengove by his own admission focussed on defensive aspects rather than spread last which would also have affected that. Ignoring the fact it was known he had a calf I also think via observation of his movement and lack of kicking depth it was obvious he had something else going on.
-
I dont recall many people saying he was treacle slow in his first year. I wonder why. He finds the pill as much if not more than any of those players in their first 3 years of senior footy. Based on his Casey output he doesn't deserve a game based on the guarantee that he will lead in effort and ethic he does.
-
You are aware he was carrying weight and injury last year. Did you actually see him play in 2011?
-
Neeld confirms in todays HUN that he will play as will T-mac and Terlich. I believe Trengove will make alot of people eat their words once he gets the right balance in his game between attack and defence. He may not be quick but I watched Watson, Swallow, Kennedy and Gibbs all give best on performances last week. None of whom are quick but have great endurance, work ethic and the knack to find the pill.

Rising star round 1 JV?
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Norm Smith's Curse's topic in Melbourne Demons
Wines will get it. -
Positive on him and for us into the future, negative on the dearth of current leadership on field.
-
Jordie gives his all but its not enough. He is there as a defensive stopper but does not have the ability to run to follow his man away from the contest. When he does get the ball he mostly gives it away.
-
Out: Gillies, Nicholson, Tapscott, Sellar, Toumpas In: T-Mac, Jetta, Kent, Dawes, Terlich

Neeld apologists ... state your case.

I believe Hardnut is alluding to this with wanting us to be courageous. Again I am not saying he can coach but I am willing to give him time to find out.
