Access to priority picks should be determined by the number of years since the club has won a premiership (alternatively if no premiership, the number of years since the club entered the competition). Get priority access until you win one, then go to the back of the queue! Surely Port deserve one if they have an awful season. Stuck at the bottom through two compromised drafts as the two new clubs pick up all the guns.2 points

Any Victorian club that finished below us except for Essendon (whose 1st rounder will be tied up in F/S for Daniher) can out bid one compo pick. If Hurley goes to GWS, then factor Essendon back in. It's critical to sell Gaff on MFC.2 points

Matt Burgan Is possibly the worst interviewer I've ever seen, its embarrasing they let him do it. Having a rambling vague interviewer who needs 30 words to say what can be said 4 doesnt help an interviewee either. Bit like the standard of play being dragged down when you play a poor standard footy team2 points

If Gaff says he wants to come to Melbourne Football Club one compo pick should close the deal. If he says he wants to come back to a Victorian club it will take both picks.2 points

I s'pose it is fair to suggest that if, after his extensive experience public speaking, Kevin Rudd can get so flustered in front of the camera, then surely we can give Chip a little bit of leeway here. He is, after all, a footballer, not a public speaker.2 points

It's footy after no footy has been played for months. Give me shite footy over no footy any day of the week. I am pathetically hanging out for Saturday. So sad.2 points

Hey boys and girls I have finally got out of my ice bath after forum footy (still a bit sore but will pull through) and im hanging for footy to start so I can stop telling people we are certain for the 8 this year and that sam blease is going to explode this year. After a few drinks on the weekend and then a few more i put $100 on with a mate that Melbourne will finish on top of st.kilda and another $100 on one S.Blease winning the B&F this year. If i had a couple more scotch's i probably would have put some dough on lucas cook winning the coleman so im lucky I stopped. I know this is a nothing thread that's why this thread is sponsored by the NAB cup because they are both irrelevant but I would love to know if any other demonlanders have been shooting their mouths off to their mates about our chances Cheers.1 point

I put $100 on Melbourne to make the eight paying $3.50 I bet my mate a case of Asahi Melbourne will beat The Filth in our pre season match. I have been telling anyone that will listen to put Sam Blease in their Supercoach team. Most of all I have been basking in the love Melbourne have been receiving in the paper lately. I reckon there has been at least one MFC article in the Herald Sun everday for the last month. I also told my wife to keep me out of her Saturday night plans as THE DEES ARE BACK !!!!1 point

If Mitch Robinson played for us he'd be a cult figure and I'd love a player like him running around for us .1 point

Which club is most often represented in this list? Nick Riewoldt (2000), Luke Hodge (2001), Adam Cooney (2003), Brett Deledio (2004), Marc Murphy (2005), Dale Thomas (2005), Matthew Kreuzer (2007) and Tom Scully (2009) Not a Melb player amongst them.1 point

"Anderson said a formula would be developed that will take into account such factors as a club’s premiership points over a period of years (with greater weight to recent seasons), its percentage over a period of years as another indication of on-field competitiveness (with greater weight to recent seasons), any finals appearances in recent seasons, any premierships in recent seasons and club injury rates in each relevant season." So they are going to give a formula rather than use the discretion of the commission. Sounds like progress to me. I don't know what the outrage is based on.1 point

"The financial opportunity associated with GWS enabled me to secure the future for my family. AFL can be unpredictable - my own struggles with injury last year and the experience of team-mates like Daniel Bell has brought this home to me Loyalty in football is very important to me but loyalty to family is paramount. I enjoyed my time at the Melbourne Football Club and will always be grateful to them for providing my opportunity in the AFL. I wish the club, supporters and my ex-team-mates all the best as they work hard to build a successful future. Now at GWS I see that there is a great opportunity to build something special and I will be doing my utmost to contribute to that, to re-pay the enormous faith the club has placed in me." - not Tom Scully1 point

Interesting comment. What you have said would hold true if all drafts were exactly the same in depth & ability. However, they are not. The buying power of the picks we received are fluid and will rise and fall relative to the draft depth & ability in which you choose to activate them. In reality we received better than Ablett compensation, for two reasons. a/ Our picks are better because of our finishing position and b/ Our picks are able to be activated in less compromised deeper drafts. We are holding two very, very powerful bargain chips in next years draft. You would logically think clubs will ALL want to talk to us if a player has 100% made the commitment to move. You are always in a more powerful position if they are coming to you and not visa-versa.1 point

I was in a situation season before last where I was with a small number of people with the player group. Off his own bat, Chip came over to me, shook my hand, introduced himself and welcomed me. I thought it showed outstanding personal qualities. Mix that with a tough, skilful on-field presence and you have a couple of essential leadership ingredients. Any polishing of personal style (if needed) is the easy part.1 point

Best thing I have seen to date. * Constructive feedback to a tee. Too harsh some say? Harden up. Every player now knows their weakness's are on display to the general public and I'm sure it will only contribute in motivatating them further in their quest to become the best players they can. God damn Neeld and co. are a breath of fresh air.1 point

to be fair though its a trip to the gold coast...to play bris and the gc. it'll be a nice holiday with a heavier than normal training session on saturday night1 point

Wow. They are a pretty good assessment I reckon. This seems to be a Neeld driven trend - honest appraisals, no nonsense, expectations clearly outlined. I like it1 point

Is Scully worth 2 first round draft picks in what many are touting as the best draft since 2001? If not, then we got over-compensated by the AFL for him going to GWS? I post these questions because many here, perhaps even most, thought we got ripped off with 2 mid 1st round picks for a #1 pick with 2 years development. But apparently according to this thread we did the ripping off because the compo is worth more than a proven #4 pick (Gaff).1 point

You're the guy who laughs at others out loud whilst everyone laughs at you amongst themselves. I didn't realise how one spoke in front of camera was a measure of their intelligence. With some of the dribble you go on with on this site I'm surprised you laugh at others so easily1 point

We did not get good compensation for a young star midfielder. If we can turn that into a trade in which we get a young star midfielder, we are getting closer to propoer compensation. If we need to trade both to get talent, we trade both. We need the talent.1 point

In the washup, if it worked out that we effectively traded Scully one-on-one for Gaff, I can't see how you couldn't be satisfied.1 point

Many here think we were ripped off with Scully compensation. Gaff has shown his worth as a legitimate pick 4 with some years of development. If you won't pay both picks for Gaff, there's inconsistency.1 point

Watts is 20 years old, has done 1 complete preseason and people criticise him for not having a mindless attack on the ball. I'll guarantee that when his body develops and his understanding of the game grows he'll attack the football in a way that will make you proud to be a Demon. For now let him fill out and learn his place on the field. Or would you prefer he ran around like Mitch Robinson?1 point

How does 'to be fair' apply to that sentence? And, rpfc will make a great coach. Let's not kid around with that. How was I settling on that? I gave rhetorical questions about the fact that Watts needs to improve on his physicality, and ten good games last year. Of course, he needs to improve in 2012, but 2012 hasn't happened yet, all that has happened is 2011 - when he, from a slow start, powered through the middle of the year and finished 9th in the best and fairest. Who saw that coming? Hell, C&B likened him to a woman in the early rounds of 2011 and now he is forever taking a speccie in his signature... On exposed form, we have reason to be pleased with how Watts is progressing and not alluding to a disappointing 2011 - he didn't have one. Well, rpfc isn't a nuff-nuff, and nor is he unwilling to criticise players who deserve it. I don't think many on this forum would forget the rants concerning the Leadership Group of 2011... So I think you have to put away that chestnut about 'rose coloured glasses'... Considering you have labelled him to become either a 'good number one pick' of an 'elite number one pick' he isn't another 'player who has played 50 games' is he? Your expectations of him are probably so high because of that fact and that is entirely understandable - we see Gibbs and Murphy and Nik Nat and we won't him to hurry up but shifting the goalposts is unfair. He is expected to do more in 2012 than he did in 2011 but he gave every indication in 2011 that his game will continue to progress in the areas of consistency and physicality.1 point
