Win for Melbourne, as club secures training venue near heart of city

I am a bit confused here. Wasn't a new home/training venue in the city (that rectangular stadium) already on track for 2010?

The actual training oval had not been finalised, just our facilities in the rectangle such as social and rehab.

Well done Dees!!! Finally...

Little confused as well. Are the Pies still going to train at the other ground, is it Gosch's Paddock? And we get the new oval or do we share the oval with them? If so I can see us being farked around as we are the poorer cousins of the Pies.

It all sounds like it is coming together for training and admin, we just have to wait a few years for it now..... (twiddles thumbs, stares at ceiling, stares at wall, stares at floor.. are we there yet?)

Current athletics track moved to Bob Jane and replaced by oval to be shared by Us and the Filth. What's the bet we get screwed?

How can they juggle both sides training "needs" on the one training oval? Hate to be pessimistic but from our history you'd assume one team would get preferential treatment over another and you know where that would leave the good old Dee's...

No. Indoor facilities, like gym, hyperbaric area, indoor lap pool, etc & offices.

The playing surface is to small for real AFL training, this would be done & the athletics site & summer training at Casey fields.

currently the pies are training at gosch's paddock... they were training at edwin flack field which featured the bob rose interchange bench, but the new stadium is currently being built there...

the initial plan was for both Melbourne and Collingwood to train at gosch's paddock... however Collingwood didn't want a bar of that, as they would have to walk from the lexus centre, past the rectangular stadium and our home, to their training oval that they were forced to share...

now that it's confirmed that olympic park is being vacated, collingwood will look to move in there... i am surprised to hear that we are going to train there too... i always thought we were going to train at gosch's paddock, and either share it with the filth, or have it to ourselves while they got olympic park...

Did you know that during the season the average time spent on the track training is 6 hours per week. Should be no problem to share with filth although I hate to use these two words in the same sentence

Great news even if we have to put up with the filth form time to time. A home is a home, and this should make us an attractive destination fo out of contract players in the future. New facilties and a fresh start. AWESOME!!!

Melbourne Football Club, which is likely to move its football department into a new home under the stands of the rectangular stadium under construction, is unlikely to be allowed joint use of the training oval, for which Collingwood is contracted to have exclusive access.

The Demons would be likely to use the oval next to Gosch's Paddock on the corner of Punt Road and Swan Street, where Collingwood has been training since construction began at their former training ground at Edwin Flack Oval.

Under the terms of its long-term lease, Collingwood had to have access to a ground no further than the Edwin Flack Oval, which has now been demolished for the rectangular stadium.

That left either the athletics track or the Old Scotch oval next to the tennis centre.

Playing second fiddle to Collingwood regarding access to an oval, and playing second fiddle to the rectangular sports in a facility tailor-made for them.

Poor cousins with those arrangements.

The opportunity should be grabbed at Casey Fields now. While the Casey Council might be quite partial to working co-operatively with MFC at the moment, it might have very different interests to Australian football in a few years time when reality hits for MFC at the rectangular stadium.

I was given to understand that the footy dept is going to Casey this summer and likely to remain until al lfacilities at teh Bubbledome are ready. Summer training to continue for forseeable future at Casey.with the bulk of winter training on Goschs (after the filth vacate for rebuilt olympic precint ) I remember somewhere it was mentioned that the Dees would also avail themselves of Casey during seasons proper also..just not as main location.

Its ( from my readings ) the genuine notion of the club ( MFC ) to develop a relationship at CF. ..just not fulltime.. well as of this writing anyways..lol

So what exectly was Paul Gardiner actually announcing yesterday? Unless the state government has a different view of Collingwood's lease, then Gardiner was talking a load of bollocks about nothing. If so, this is very embarassing and it's time he stood down!!

you still bothering with all your biased comments? i don't mind you talking positively about the opportunities at casey, but you use every opportunity you can the diss our new home, and i'm sure it's due to your casey bias more than anything else...

the MFC will never completely relocate to Casey... don't try and convince us to leave our heartland in Melbourne, that we won't fit in a rectangular stadium, unless you can actually give some substance to your opinions other that your casey bias

Perceptive!

It depends what you mean by "completely". Might it significantly relocate (ie footy activities to Casey, admin & corporate in Melb)?

that we won't fit in a rectangular stadium, unless you can actually give some substance to your opinions other that your casey bias

Come on! There might be state of the art fitness/recovery equipment inside the rectangular stadium, but MFC won't get on the turf and it's the wrong shape anyway. Players will have to run up Swan Street to Gosch's Paddock, now that Eddie has claimed the new oval right to be built right next to the rectangular stadium. What more substance do you need about the shape of it, the fact that an AFL club will be like a fish out of water in THEIR stadium and the distance to an oval to train on?

I have confirmed with my contact at MOPT that we will NOT be sharing the new training oval to be built on the Olympic Park stadium site-- this will be exclusively for Collingw&%$.

Rather we will have the oval at Gosch's Paddock... where Coll currently train.

The very good news is that this oval will receive a multi-million dollar upgrade for our long term use.

And of course we wont have to share facilities, sponsors signage etc with the filth.

Btw I just searched the area on Google Maps and our new oval is not far at all from the new stadium site... only negatives being on Punt Road, exposed to the elements and difficult to hold closed sessions.

I am unsure whether the upgrade will help address these negatives.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
