Shane Valenti

You would think it is an option if they did the same with Wonna. BUT Nieta is a forward so they might promote the Valiant one but play a Maric or maybe Bates if they think he is at the 100% threshold to get a run.

To be fair who knows what happens at our selection meetings it has been very hard to judge this year to date.

I think, Zomer and Frank (Spencer) both player 2's at Sandy didn't they so doubt they will get a list promotion this year but who knows.

given neita is on the long term injury list, I would imagine this is being done so the club can promote Shane Valenti this week... I think he should come straight into the side... thoughts?

Could be, (I like the little Valentino) but to replace the injured full forward we may elevate a marking forward like Zomer to help cover Neitz.

Shane Valenti I think will be elevated but probably via a midsized player's unavailability.

well once he's on the list, you simply look at it from a selection issue... does valenti warrant selection this week? i'd play him ahead of moloney, and with whelan looking like getting rubbed out, there is two available spots, plus neita makes three... bring in Bate, Miller and Valenti... bate can play tall/small, so we're not getting top heavy...

as on the selection committee, they have been hard to judge, but i think I have a feel of how it's being done now though...

and if i had to guess, they won't play valenti this week, even though I'd like to see it happen... Miller and Bate will come in for Whelan and Neitz, and I think C. Johnson or Garland will come in for Moloney... Bartram is on the fringes too... may get squeezed out for whelan's return the following week...

it doesn't say anywhere that the player coming off the rookie list has to be a like replacement... it would be a waste promoting zomer or spencer unless they're going to contribute, which they're not this year...

and we have enough key position players on the list who didn't play for melbourne on the weekend... meesen, holland, martin, newton, warnock, garland, bate... we have plenty of talls to cover neitz just fine...

but valenti is ready for the step to AFL and contribute...

Valenti is the popular choice, but I wouldn't put it past the club to say that they may bring in like for like...

Newton is gone for a match, PJ is hurt, Neitz gaawn, Meesen and Holland have had injury, Bate isn't right yet apparently...

We have Robbo hitting some form and working hard, Miller was operating slightly better, but musn't go to the square, as he'll return to his diabolical worst... and that's it really.

Bringing in Zomer won't fix it... but at least there's room for a tall in the side. There isn't room for a guy who is identical to Jones...

Having said that, I don't want it to happen or think it will. If we brought in Valenti, I can see him averaging 20 touches a week and giving the rising star a shake. Get him in ASAP I say...

Valenti will get his chance, hopefully this season.

Meesen(pfft), holland(not the future), martin(yes, see post earlier), newton(my boy, he's not ready), warnock(just a backman), garland(not a KP yet), bate(needs another week @ Sandy to build fitness & confidance before hitting the field in this desperate team).

not saying any of those players are going to be the messiah of the MFC... but all of them would get a game before zomer at the moment, so what's the point of promoting the kid if he aint gonna play..?

He's no more raw than Weetra, he's tall (196cms) & is the closest to a (true) fullforward we have outside of Newton or Bate. If newton doesn't improve his attack for the contest defensively as well as offensively then the other option is to play a Juvenile (fullforward) in his place to put pressure on the Juice to perform.

there are lots of other options... why does the solution at demonland always seem to be to throw a kid in to the wolves? be patient and give them time...

you're already talking about putting pressure on juice to hold his spot? how about blooding him? how many games has he played? surely juice gets some time to cement his spot at full forward and let him play, before we give it to a kid running around in sandy 2's, doing exactly what juice was doing 2 years ago...

that's taking a step backwards with our development, not forwards...

Valenti would be on the cusp of selection if promoted off the rookie list. THe dees have to run with a goal kicker with neita out, so the human torch Matthew Bate gets the run if he is ready.

The way this season is heading, Valenti should find himself playing soon enough.

If they weren't going to play him then they would not bother promoting him as it costs them more money. It would be plain dumb to promote him then leave him at Sandy. Why bother?

Promotion off the rookie list = senior selection. If it's confirmed that he has been promoted off the rookie list (not sure it is), then he will line up against Brisbane.

Spot on. He won't be promoted for the sake of it. Only if DB thinks he is best 22, just like Aussie.

I'm not disagreeing but you have to have 38 on the list at any one time. With Nieta on LTI then it is 37 so they can promote whomever they see fit. Who knows with Bails but you would have to think it would be Valsa, he just seems further developed than the other rookie fellas. No [censored] since he is older....

At the news conference just held Bails said no one has been promoted and they might not prmote anyone.

Fark me he is a hard man. I would of thought Valsa was a monty to come up.

He said Valsa has been showing some alright form but needs to show more form before he will be put. Making him really work for it. I hope it spurs him on to work even harder and earn a spot.

Bailey stated that there were others ( already ) on the list that would likely be tried before Valenti , and that he ( Valenti ) would have to continue to prove himself before promotion .

oh RR it is a touch early din din isn't it, or are you heading down to the 4pm early bird special....

My point, obviously was not made well enough, was I assumed that he would be an automatic promotion and play some senior footy now. We have seen a number of the current listed players so far this season and they have not looked the goods as yet. I am interested to see how Valenti will go at the next level, if he is good enough then it opens up potential trade opportunites, if anyone will touch our current players.

I understoond his point and it's ramifications but thanks again for the direction, you're a good man RR

He's a ruckman who they're turning into a full forward.

Who says they're going to elevate anyone anyway?

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
