Some suggestion today that CJ is the worst player to play for Melbourne. Not true. Here are some candidates:

Michael Young

Michael Byrne (before traded to Hawthorn)

Glenn McLean (traded to the fiflth)

Roger Ellingworth

James Frawley (His cousins could play better)

Alistair Nicholson

Tony Campbell

Ricky Jackson

Mark Jackson

Luke Molan (although to be fair he never played a senior game)

Stan Alves (because he slags on us at every opportunity because he didnt get the captaincy)

Diamond Jim Tilbrook (overpaid and over-rated)

Craig Turley

Nick Pesch

Luke Williams

Michael Seddon

It's hard to believe Nicho is a candidate for worst player - he was okay for us.

He's not in the class of Andy Moir!!!!

Did you ever see Ricky Jackson play? If so how could you even consider him for this list?

All of the above posters must be on a serious amount of crack and other narcotics because none of you mentioned DAMIEN GASPAR.

An Eskimo kickin' a fish around would look like more of a footballer than that complete clown. And calling him a clown isn't an insult, apparently he was the funniest bloke at the club, humour must be very highly rated at MFC for DAMIEN GASPAR to have ever played more than a quarter of football.

The 1987 preliminary final sealed his fate to the list. Simon Eishold has to go in as well.

Also Vin Catoggio for his 7 or 9 games played. Think we swapped Greg Wells to Carlton!!!!!

Stan Alves

226 games for MFC between 1965 and 1976.

2 B & Fs in 1972 and 1974

Runner up in Brownlow in 1975.

Captain 1973 to 1976

Represented Victoria 6 times.

Played 40 games for North Melbourne 1977 to 1978

1977 Premiership player.

Worst Player is he??

Woah, settle down tiger.

Bit harsh on Stan Alves, he was a club champion who was harshly dealt with by the club when it came to redo his contract.

That list fails because it doesn't have Damien Gasper.

Agree Jarka.

The Club treated its 1970s champions very very poorly. Their bitter treatment of Alves then Wells was appalling.

Have heard Stan on the radio in the last seven years. No t one positive comment about Melbourne. That's why he made the list

Whatever view one might have of a player it's a disgrace and an indictment on Wikipedia that it allows such nonsense as this on its pages -

"By the end of his career, Ward was best known for his inability to pick up an opponent or get his hands on the ball, and when he did get his hands on the ball he frequently coughed it up to the opposition, often resulting in goals. It is believed that his inability to play football in his last season played a large part in the sacking of coach Neil Daniher who was reluctant to drop him from the team."

Good criteria for worst player!

Given the way MFC has played over the past seven years we have given commentators good reason to be critical.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
