Positives from today.

Though we started much better today, and I thought actually had the doggies on toast early we went forward in waves and had them back peddling but could not tackle to save ourselves.

Thought Cale Morton played beautifully in patches. definitely one to watch in future. improved on last week. not bad for a 2nd gamer.

Return of Clint Bartram. We all love him and did a job on Acker early before the flood gates opened.

Nathan Carrol. Credit has to go when thousands bag him as he faces mission impossible each week without a KPP down there to help out. Reckon I counted about 7 marks first quarter by playing in front !! Though was very good early. Would go ok as a third tall, as he isn't that slow.

Rucks were better today and Johnson consistent.

Macca and Jones fought it out with all their heart as usual.

I am not too dissapointed in Garland and Weetra as they are young, But thought Mclean was very dissapointing today.

and lastly - we got beaten by less than 100 points !!

Last week i thought he looked a bit over awed to be playing AFL. i probably didn't articulate it in the best way (and was smashed for it). Today i ate my words. can't wait to see him bulk up.

Agree on Morton, Weetra and garland look out of their depth for now, Garland I see something in, Weetra I dont think he shows much, he is not quick, he seems to always be in the wrong place and can't lay a tackle, he has to go back to sandy.

! positive from today is we will not be thought of as tankers when we get the priority pick, no one will believe we can win a game of football.

Well we certainly don't......

Can't see any positives out of Colin Garland and Isaac Weetra.

But Morton will be a gun.

I think he may be the only player on our team who actually knows how to kick to the advantage of a teamate.

Pretty sad inditement on our team that is. The last last two teams to have smashed us were both able use the ball to advantage, we just turn the ball over through our lack of skill.....[censored], was this a postives thread, my bad.

Maybe he could teach a class?

Wow... sure worth getting extra pick #17 for a season from hell.

For all the knobs that think we will qualify for a first rnd priority... WE CANT! FUCKIN GET IT THROUGH YOUR SKULLS.

i thought we could.

isn't the rule, if you win less 8 games of less over 2 seasons you gain a priority pick BEFORE the first round.

we won 5 last yr...therefore if we win 3 games or less this yr we get pick 1 and 2...

can someone confirm this?

No. We cant, i can confirm it for you. It's consecutive seasons of 16 pts or less. Last year = 20 pts. So for all the relevance it has to this year we may as well of won 19 games last year, it makes no difference.

RBT is correct.

# Teams would receive a Priority Selection only if they finished the season with fewer than 16.5 premiership points.

# If a team finished with fewer than 16.5 premiership points in two consecutive seasons, then their Priority Selection is taken before the First Round.

We are aiming at pick 17 this year for a priority. But we are on track to get a first round in 2009!

His marking was good on shorter forwards but his decision making and disposal reeks of Godfrey and he crucifies us. I cant see him getting a regular gig with other teams bar Richmond and Carlton.

Actually he's the only Demons player (out of the ones that actually got a kick) I didn't see turn the ball over in the second half

Agree Rhino.

Watching Carroll is like groundhog day. The standard rough-up before the bounce. Sideways kicks. Marking and handballing to a player so close to him that the bloke on the mark can lay the tackle. Comical errors. Brain fades. Then throw in a few good marks and pieces of play.

Will we ever have a good full back?

Morton will not want to play for a club performing like Melbourne.

It really hurts me to think about what he's thinking.

With brothers at other clubs, he could well be thinking 'whats the best way to get out of here as quick as possible?'

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
