my view...these players need to be traded or delisted end of year:

Neita (a champion but old and slow)

Green (trade)...

White (old and slow)

Miller (trade/delist)

Sylvia (trade)

Wheatley (delist)

Bode (delist)

Warnock (delist)

Whelan (retire)

Robbo (delist/trade)..to slow

Stupid post!

Let us wait till Round 15 before we start with the clean out strategy!

By then we should have kicked a total of 30 goals for the season and we may be bordering on 1000 clangers!

Then this post will be acceptable :)

Perhaps a list of who stays would be more appropriate

At this stage we will have to move on some of the older players:

Yze, Holland and Neitz (will be 34 next year?). Junior may move on as well. But we cannot push all our experience out the door in the one year.

Certainly next year will be watershed for Sylvia, McLean, Bate, Dunn and Newton. Jones has already shown he has got it. Frawley and Garland may take anothere couple of years. Morton will be a gun.

When we are looking at loosing Neitz, White, MacDonald, Yze, Whelan, Holland. Alot of experience will be lost.

I don't know how M.F.C plan is to replace these sort of players.

I think we need to develop all our younger players to Senior level.

We have to have a bad year so we get more Quality draft picks

What are we waiting for? It`s time to play the kids right now! Well, maybe wait til after the Cattery otherwise we may have another record score kicked against us that will stand the test of time!

I disagree

We will be a lot less predictable in 2009 with Neitz, Miller, Bruce, Robertson, White and Yze gone

COuld catch a few teams by surprise.

And we will add the might Nicholas Natanui to our stocks

out of interest what exactly are the rules regarding priority picks? what are the requirements for a first round priority pick? (this is merely for interest, not meaning to imply anything at this stage)

i think u have to have lost less than 8 games over two years

that means we can only win three games

Wouldn't this free up some money under the salary cap thus attracting some decent players from clubs with salary cap pressure? Chris Judd has proved that anyone can be bought at the right price.

Neitz, White, Holland and Yze have all been par for the team this year and last, or less than average. They are in no way carrying the team and as such their impending retirements will have little impact.

Whelan has been missing for some time - losing him would be tragic (he has my respect) but at the same time it would not be a 'negative' in so far as he hasn't been able, through injury, to deliver his 'positive'.

McDonald is an issue - he is one of our few internal role models, as well as a determined contributor on match day.

For each one that retires, a new young player comes on to the list, and a new space is made in the match lineup . Or is that too obvious?

For what it's worth, if this year really continues as badly as current form suggests, we are entitled to priority pick no. 1, not just the number 17 - the rule is 'less than ten wins over previous two years', not 'less than five wins in both of the previous two years'. So then we'd have picks 1 and 2 coming in to the list, as well as perhaps five other picks further down the draft order.

And Cale Morton looks good to me. Let's see what comes of Maric and Grimes et al over the next six months, shall we?

Next year will be worse? Nup.

Are we screwed for next yr?

Yes.

are we any more screwed next yr than we are this yr?

No.

Neitz- hasn't played a great game for a couple of yrs. will he rly be missed?

Whelan- won't be missed hasn't played properly for about 3 yrs

Holland- is depth and won't be missed

Yze- doesn't make our team and won't be missed

JMac- is solid each week. his presence will be missed but at the end of the day he is not a star anymore and his outputs are less each week. is a solid player nowadays and has become replaceable over the past 12 months.

White- the least replaceable of all the retiring players, but isn't a star anymore. probably doesn't give any more output than P.Johnson does each week.

When you lose players with experience and that have leadership qualities, who will the younger players look up to? Younger players will be lost on the footy field and it will effect our team. We will be mentally weaker because who will stand up and lead by example? We will have to pay for some big name players next year to fill Macca and Neitz spot

Neitz always is a handful for any backline. Takes a key positioned backman player out of the game

Jmac is a leader and the only player with consistency.

White is still a top 5 in the League Ruckman, Johnson is no way near White as a player even though White is at the end of his career.

Yze Whelan, Holland will be missed for there leadership and experience. They will play more games this year the way the team is playing.

Hence the reason the MFC should target experience from other clubs. There is no doubt in my mind that Carlton held talks with Chris Judd throughout the 2007 season actively targeting him with cash. With the loss of so many players with experience and who are paid quite handsomely for that experience why can’t Melbourne start actively seeking players form other clubs? Before anyone says “Who would want to play for Melbourne?” Money talks, as I’ve said Chris Judd proved this last year. Bring in the experience to nurture the younger players and kill of the defeatist attitude at the club.

I think we can. They give us no leadership or performance.

On performance I just dont see the value of retain old players that cant cut it at AFL level. Best to take the cut now.

Yze, Neitz, Holland, will retire at year end. White, Junior and Whelan might be as well

Green Bruce, Bell, Wheatley & Miller futures are in the gun.

Not all of Sylvia, McLean, Bate, Dunn and Newton will be at MFC next year. Frawley has some chances. Garland is burning his.

On the bottom side of the list, Weetra, CJ, Bode & Warnock will be delisted.

The biggest challenge for MFC is to get our so called good players to play well to inflate their trade value for year ehd.

At present my top 10 bar Jones and Rivers are C graders at best and hardly worth a good trade bid.

We are 1 yr into a 3 year clean out with a 4 to 5 yr window before we seriously challenge.

We need to build a team that will be competitive where the game will be in 2011-12-13.

we can't really afford to be delisting anyone at years end.

most changes you can make to a list in 1 season is around 8.

Retiring at yrs end-

Whelan- definitely will retire. body has failed him

Neitz- definitely will retire.

Holland- definitely will retire

Yze- definitely will retire

McDonald- most probably his body will finally give up on him by yrs end. might go one more yr.

White- see McDonald

that's 6 already.

Warnock will obviously be delisted, he was only kept on the list this yr in case of disaster striking our KPP.

Jamar will be lucky to hold his spot after so many shitty yrs on our list but i think he's contracted.

that's 8...we don't have much room to move for making delistings

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak
