I have had enough of this pretender. The usual crap from him today. Soft, crap skills, junktime possessions.

He has a heart the size of a pea. He would be on about $400,000 a year. An absolute joke and boy does it get my blood boiling that this pansy can make so much, and not give a stuff about the jumper.

Whoever said he should be next Captain, please put ypur hand up in this thread. What the hell were you thinking?

Yep, a serial offender of the pansy class that exists at Melbourne, Yze, Jeff White, & Miller are his backup singers

Honestly, i dont care if we lost by 100 pts every week, but to play players that have spent 10 years at the club for no return no effort no heart, well its clear that the boys down at Melbourne care very little about the club they play for.

I hope they are investing their big pay packets well, because they wont have football careers for long.

I usually disagree with everything you say, and it does seem a bit early to be attacking players, but I can't help agreeing.

He ducked his head consistently, and his kicking is deplorable.

We're all aware that he has struggled with a knee injury lately, but that is no excuse for not going when it is your turn. Nor is it a reason to handball to Brock McLean who is surrounded by 3 Hawthorn players because you don't want to take the hit.

Infuriating.

Sadly, he is not the only senior player who has been going downhill for a few seasons now.

It's time to face facts. These senior players, with the exception of Neitz, will never give us what we want. So either we completely let go of all expectations, or we simply stop rewarding them with games.

He's a hack of the highest order. I've been saying it for years. So many people praise him but I never saw it. He can be a good player, but ultimately, he is soft. Reminds me of Woey.

WHY DON"T YOU SAY THAT TO HIS FACE TOUGH GUY? Get off his back. He's a quality player whether YOU like it or not!

How can you defend the players after their "effort" today? I wouldn't hesitate to tell them to their face what I think of them and they would take it because its the truth.

If I had been in the rooms i would have told Newton what a soft hack he was today without a shadow of a doubt

Here we go...

What justifies him being a quality player? His consistent poor kicking? Or constant backing out of packs? How about going missing when we need him (ie. today).

He is an overrated hack. Overrated by people like you.

Yep, absolutely.

Fair F*****g Dinkum, this trash football has to be stopped, nip it in the bud now Bails.

For a struggling footy club with a lot of young players learning the ropes, this is a disgrace to see senior 200 game type players not giving their all.

Brad, Mr plod along & find some space, here I am , kick it to me, oops pressure, I'll just pull my head in for a second Green. has to go to Sandy.

Interesting.

Right @ the momemnt he is totally useless however

was it 2 seasons ago he jumped out of the blocks & was chopping up all b4 him @ this level before Guerra

ended his season with a bone crunching tackle?

Will the real Cameron Bruce please show yourself?

Not Quite mate! It is sad when you cannot remember all the brilliant games Bruce has played for Melbourne.

Sorry for "Debated" lol And to think I'm a professional writing major.

Anyway. By your logic, any player who plays a few brilliant games for is automatically clasified as a high quality player. What exactly would you classify a player who has a brilliant game every week?

I can remember. In fact, if not for Bruce, we wouldn't of played in the 2000 GF. It's sad that you cannot admit how overrated he is.

u said he ducked his head consistantly. can u give me one example. i thought he didn't have his greatest game but his still in our top half a dozen players atm

I thought Newton did OK given the circumstances. He was soft, but so was the entire team. He's only played a few games. You're all putting crap on him as if he is a leader and seasoned veteran.

He'll be a player. He can take a mark and kick a goal. That's all we need atm.

Not a FEW brilliant games but MANY brilliant ones. Do you happen to know any player who is brilliant EVERY week? Name a few if you can!

I can remember more brilliant games by Jones then brilliant games by Bruce.

There aren't any that are brilliant every week. I was just making a point. Bruce has been insignifcant since mid-2006. You're saying he's a quality player. Justify that. My point is, if a player that hasn't been brilliant in over a season can be called a "quality player", what would you classify a player that has been great the past year or so.

Bruce has been very ordinary for so many years now and i agree he is overpaid and was hoping DB would trade him with TJ. But yze, yes again shocking for last 2 years but before then was ewssentual to our side. And jeff white, thats a bit unfair i mean he has been in the top 2 ruckman before the ruck rule changed. Its good to see PJ better than him i recon

Im sorry, but I dont count being a reciever while your team is up and running as being brilliant.

Bruce is a frontrunner of the highest order. When we are going well he is the first one hanging out the side waiting for an easy kick, trying to pad his stats and cover himself in glory

When we are struggling, he is nowhere to be seen. He would be in the top 3 highest paid players at the club. An absolute joke.

u said he ducked his head consistantly. can u give me one example. i thought he didn't have his greatest game but his still in our top half a dozen players atm

Two examples:

First example was in the second quarter I think. The ball just dribbled out of our forward line, and was there to be won. Bruce ran and stopped. He had the opportunity to throw himself in and get the ball, but he didn't.

Another example, and I swear I nearly jumped the fence after that one, was when running out of the backline, Bruce decided to handball to McLean, who was surrounded by 3 Hawks, because he wanted to avoid physical contact. Never in my life have I been so ashamed of a Melbourne player. Sold his own team-mate into trouble, instead of taking a few extra steps and kicking the ball.

Not every player needs to throw themselves at the contest with no regard for their own well being (i.e.- Jones), but every player has to go when required, especially a senior LEADER. I can forgive the terrible kicking, poor decision making and lack of leadership shown, but not the lack of effort and care. If he isn't fit, he shouldn't play. Bailey said only players who are 100% fit will play, so no excuses.

Bruce had a few very good seasons, but has gone downhill since. Much like Yze, we cannot carry players based on what they have done in the past. Perhaps a permanent forward position is the solution, who knows. It's sad that someone with his ability is struggling to impact matches. I have no doubt that we've seen the best that Bruce has to offer. Maybe it's our fault for expecting too much of him.

I would call him a QUALITY player! What exactly is your point here? Let us watch Bruce's form this season and one of us will be proved right. QED.

I do agree he's one of the better runners in the AFL but he can't make the ball spin right 75% of the time and won't take the hit even if it meant benefiting the team.

If he can get that right, he'll be....blah blah blah, if, if, if.

Cam has been a fine player over a long period. He is no superstar but he has performed to a creditable level over long enough to be regarded as a worthy AFL player. His best games have often been in run with role. He has played well on Hird and Brad Johnson in this role and at this stage of his career it is what he should be doing. His great advantage with this role is that he can hurt teams going the other way. The problem he has at the moment is a limited pre season and an unrealistic expectation. I don't think he has ever been a match winner, more of a saver. Todays effort was not one of his best but he wasn't Robinson Crusoe! The skill level of most of our senior players was appalling and their lack of preparedness to run, carry, distribute etc etc was in stark contrast to what would be expected of a side genuinely having a dip!

A question for the statisitical boffins out there - has any coach had a worse start in terms of losing margin to their coaching career than Bailey? I can't remember any that have managed to lose by more than 100 in their first game. I hope somebody has!!!

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
