Cameron Bruce - overpaid, soft, pathetic

I may as just copy what i said in another thread on the matter:

"To be honest, I'm fed up with demonlanders around here continuously bagging fantastic servants of the MFC such as Green, Bruce and White. Firstly, Green and Bruce are blokes that give 100% in every game that they're involved in...to suggest otherwise is ridiculous. They are not and have not ever been superstars, but all our supporters seem to blame them for everything that goes wrong around this club! Brad Green is a good kick, someone who puts his body on the line for the team, but he is not an exceptional athlete and he does not know how to find the ball like a Scotty West. He does NOT have exceptional talent and he gets the most out of himself as a footballer. What more can we ask of him than that?

As for Bruce he is clearly playing injured and has done for the last few years. Bruce is a midfielder and he needs to be played in the midfield! Makes sense doesnt it? Bruce would be in the top echelon of distance runners at our club... when he's fit we need to put him on the ball and let him run opposition players off their feet. Everyone here has got to understand that Bruce is recognised by the playing group as a leader of this club, someone who gives his all every week and is one of our best players.

Everyone around here is saying its curtains for Jeff White. Am I the only one to think he wasnt that bad yesterday? He got 28 hitouts! and we drew level in clearances..not a bad effort for a ruckman considering we got flogged. Sure his input around the ground was below par...no denying that...but one of the reasons for this was that we never got our game going! A ruckman's job is not to get his own ball but to provide a target and in his case be a link man. He had a bad game but in the context of his career and his last few years for the dees it was an aberration. Jeff White has been a great servant for us...he has played over 100 games in a row (an outstanding effort for a ruckman), and just recently i read on this site that he was considered by another afl player to be the 2nd best ruckman in the comp behind cox. And we are saying its time for him to retire? Are we serious? Good idea guys lets give Jamar another go because he has clearly shown to be of afl standard. Jeff White could easily play 5 more years as a second ruckman!!!!"

Well said demonattack. Everything you have said is absolutely true.

Are you for real?

This excuse may apply to Brent Moloney and Colin Sylvia.

But not with Cameron Bruce, who has definitely NOT been injured for the last 3 years.

Sorry for "Debated" lol And to think I'm a professional writing major.

Anyway. By your logic, any player who plays a few brilliant games for is automatically clasified as a high quality player. What exactly would you classify a player who has a brilliant game every week?

I can remember. In fact, if not for Bruce, we wouldn't of played in the 2000 GF. It's sad that you cannot admit how overrated he is.

"wouldn't HAVE played"

Get Cameron to help you with your English.

Please...

Because I care what you think, especially considering you've criticised my writting skills on an internet forum...

But perhaps I should get him to help me out with my English, because he sure as hell wouldn't be able to tell me how to kick a football straight, lay a hard tackle or run head on at an approaching opponent. Or act like a leader, for that matter.

All of you people praising and sticking up for Bruce should all be on the Melbourne Football Club's recruiting and football operations teams. You'll fit in well with the rest of the stubborn, idiotic and dumb people who can't see an overrated hack when they're right in front of them.

To single out one player from the other 22 that represented the red and blue would be letting them all off scott free... we were pathetic in every sense of the game - goal kicking, general field kicking, decision making but most importantly, our total lack of defensive skills!!

not sure cam bruce is our highest paid player this year - jeff white may indeed qualify for this!!

cam bruce is a quality player and one that would be first tagged each week by opposition teams. it is time for other players to step up and have a crack....

i would be more interested to hear your commnets of the leadership group and their performance on the weekend.....

after that performance there is no where to hide - this week they get an opportunity to make amends... to show to the coach that he has the right players, that us as members are on the start of an exciting journey and that it was just a blip against a very very good side....

All a bit over board guys.

The whole team got pumped, including the kids.

Wait a couple more weeks.

Im no huge Bruce fan but he is a receiver.... that is his job, he is not suppossed to get the hard ball anyway.

Yawn, whose next Mclean, Jones?

Neither of them has 160 games to their name or are on $400,000 a year

But still, they have a dip

Who then?

no one has done anything the last couple of years to dismantle him

Wha.....??????~~~?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

You mean, no one has outperformed Bruce in the last couple of years? No one????????

Jones? McLean in 06? Bartram (and he hasn't played in 10 years)???

I mean, Jones has outperformed everyone on this team CLEARLY in the last 15 or so home and away games.

And you say dismantle as if he is such a champion player. To me, champion players win B&F's and make All-Australian teams. He hasn't done either.

Indeed.

What about Robbo who just missed out on All Australian and has topped our goal-kicking table for a number of season now?

Gees, if Cameron Bruce is the best we've got we really are struggling.

But in all fairness..Robbo DIDNT make AA...and topping our goal kicking is hardly the epitome of achievement !! lol

Bruce reminds me of that star than burns too bright...then fades to oblivion.

A- Robbo was robbed because the stupid selectors decided to put a ruckman in the forward pocket

B- He has more than fulfilled his requirements as a key player and leader. Not much more you can ask from a small forward than kicking 40+ goals a season

C- How many B&F's has Bruce won?

Someone remind me how far into the season we are - Last game I saw was Round 1 and we got flogged. If the same thing happens next week, and the week after that, and the week after that, and there is little improvement; Only then will I be calling for blood.

Give the boys half a chance, it was Bailey's first game with an inexperienced line-up against a team that has hit the ground running. Although we had a heap of inside 50's, our forward structure was poor, and the Dawks applied good pressure on the ball carrier (something we could learn as a team as a whole, not just Bruce) - thus resulting in turnovers, subsequently a lack of scoring opportunities, and a heap of rebound football that the Dawks executed very effectively. On a side note, I recall seeing we matched the Dawks in clearances (could be wrong).

For the Bruce Bashers out there, Let me remind you: In 2008, Bruce has had 1 poor game while coming back from injury. It is far to early in the season to be writing off one of our most key players - Lets not forget this was a guy who was an early brownlow favourite a couple of years back.

I have little doubt the boys will be hurting more than any of us after the weekends performance. It is times like these that they will need our support the most, particularly as some of the newest demons are thrown in the deep end. Lets not turn on our players like the Tigers have in recent years - We are rebuilding as a club, it is Round 2 this week, we are playing the mutts, and PhilReadFury will be there to cheer (and drink Beer), while hopefully getting a look at some new MFC debutants participate in the demons first win of our 150th year. And if we lose, there is always Round 3.

Ah.. sorry...didnt realise Robbo was robbed...all makes sense now <_< If youre good enough you get there. .he wasnt.. You can argue til cows come home.. simple fact is..he wasnt. Otherwise..he would be there. You can keep the circle going as long as you like.. facts dont change.

Again topping OUR goal kicking doesnt mean sqaut !! does it...really ? He was 20th in league of 16 teams ... We finished 3rd last..its not top of the pops stuff..

Robbo was definitely robbed for an AA spot

One of the worst oversights ever.. the bloke kicked 70+ goals... and they put Everitt in the forward line?

I have had enough of this pretender. The usual crap from him today. Soft, crap skills, junktime possessions.

He has a heart the size of a pea. He would be on about $400,000 a year. An absolute joke and boy does it get my blood boiling that this pansy can make so much, and not give a stuff about the jumper.

Whoever said he should be next Captain, please put ypur hand up in this thread. What the hell were you thinking?

Overpaid? Yes. And I don't think he's 'soft'; he's just not hard. He supposedly has a big 'engine', but only the SKILLED and HARD players get paid the big $'s. Check the other clubs - the best are HARD and SKILLED.

Jones > Rivers > Bartram > everyone else. Bruce is in that "everyone else".

He's a hack of the highest order. Hacks like yourself praise other hacks, just like Bruce. He is a "daniher" player and a typical one at that; soft, weak and a "give it to me" type player. When this team is where Hawthorn are now, 3-4 years down the track, successful and strong, Bruce will be one of the lower tier players, if that.

Overrated. Always has been and always will be. Reminds me of Tracey McGradey in the NBA. Good when the team is going well, no where to be seen where they are travelling bad. Hack hack hack.

If i could clear out these players who don't as AFL players put their body in front of an oncoming hit, - I would list in this order to suit our current needs :-

1...Yze,,,,,,,,,,,Must retire this year, or makeway for a rookies promotion.

2...Green,,,,,,,,Trade for some sort of Pick.

3...Robbo,,,,,,,Must retire @ the end of this year.

4...Bruce,,,,,,,,Please Trade @ years end, whilst he's got some value.

5...White,,,,,,,,Unfortunately we need him for one more year as we season our up & coming 2nd string rucks.

WHY DON"T YOU SAY THAT TO HIS FACE TOUGH GUY? Get off his back. He's a quality player whether YOU like it or not!

Quality Players win Premierships. We have to get into that mindset. At Present Cam Bruce is NOT QUALITY. Thats been our Problem for the last 43 Years. Brucey may be a top Bloke but he is not a top line Footy Player

He has had 8 Years at this level to prove himself

I think you forget that if it wasn't for Brent Guerra, Bruce could well have had a BnF, AA and Brownlow on his CV

Jones has played 1(?) year only so if you think he's the best player the list is even worse than what everyone thinks it is, Brock McLean needs to narrow the gap between his good and bad games and actually do something creative with the ball when he gets it.

Bruce is the definition of an old fashioned utility, not many players can lay claim to having Brad Johnson and Matthew Richardson's measure as well as being able to rack up 30 quality touches. As a midfielder he's a wide running receiving type player that certainly isn't aided by the fact his teammates are [censored] trucks

    BLOODY BLUES by Meggs

The conclusion to Narrm’s home and away season was the inevitable let down by the bloody Blues  who meekly capitulated to the Bombers.   The 2024 season fixture handicapped the Demons chances from the get-go with Port Adelaide, Brisbane and Essendon advantaged with enough gimme games to ensure a tough road to the finals, especially after a slew of early season injuries to star players cost wins and percentage.     As we strode confidently through the gates of Prin
