That was a very painful day, i couldn't believe that we had a another agonisingly close loss. A lot of people talk about the shocking games we played all year but i think we lost 4 games by a goal or less and the second pies game by less than two goals with virtually no bench.

An absolutely horrific year, not much if anything went right at all.

Great game of footy that one!

Sylvia, Davey and some bloke that wore no 16 for us were awesome.

Loved some of Davey's work in the defensive 50, but also jagged 30 touches, 3 goals and 3 brownlow votes.

That game was the most guttering of all 4 thrilling games. By the Essendon -Danhiher farewell game it was a given that we'd end up losing from any position.

Hopefully this year, we learn to win the close ones!

Round 9 versus the Kangaroos is on at 3pm on Fox Sports 2.

So glad they're starting to play AFL games again as I was starting to suffer big time, although I have a feeling this particular game was another heartbreaking loss..

We turned a 6 goal deficit at 3 qtr time into a 5 point lead...only to blow it once again.

The lack of on field leadership that day in the heat of the last quarter and the failure of experienced footballers to perform the basic lock down strategies in defence was appalling.

There wasnt so much a lack of leadership as a TJ kicking it to the boundry line for a 50 50 stoppage!

That was one issue. If he could not have found a target outside 50 why didn't he use up his time allotment on the initial kick in and rush a behind and then call for a lead from his next kick in. We had to maintain possession of the pill. He kicked to a MFC player contested by 2 Kangas players.

If that was not enough, when the boundary throw in was had, there was no MFC crumber standing goal side of the throw in where a young Kangas player received the ball ran his full distance and goaled. Where was TJ? Standing 10 metres out from the goal square not picking up anyone. Had he done so he could have contested the fall of the tap out to negate opposition possession and force another ball up and the erosion of remaining time. Surely a top level player with 10 years experience should have exhibited more nous and experience.

It was also amazing that no other MFC player thought of those issues as well. Its not just a TJ gripe but he was a primary culprit in this matter and should have done much more.

and it is sad that he never could have matured into a smart footballer because 10 minutes before that point in the game, he was able to successfully pin point a pass perfectly to the advantage of the neitz lead...now morton will take over

And yet Lions fans are ecstatic that they got TJ to the club and view him with rose coloured glasses ie - "he is an awesome kick so he'll be awesome for Brisbane". They've failed to realise that he has a number flaws including injuries aplenty.

BBP, In a midfield with Black, Lappin and Power, the attention on TJ might not be as great and he might do better. However, most teams know how damaging he could be but they know how to cut his influence. And then there is the off field..... I just think MFC made a reasonable call that given all on field and off field issues considered they were better getting market value for him now rather than risk two more so-so years where his market value would have diminished considerably.

Travis at his best was awesome but most of those times he went head to head with another midfielder - when shut down, he was unable to generate his own possessions.. the Brad Sewell job on him was a perfect insight in to this...

the problem with travis was that he showed the weaknesses of others - foot disposal and vision that many others did not have....

the number of times a pass to a leading forward would bounce a metre in front at their feet, the ball would then be turned aover and whipped up the other end.... struth!!!
