I'm just going over the '08 fixture thinking about which games I'm best off making the effort to travel to get to.

Queen's Birthday has been fun for the last few years, mark that in.

But which games have the highest interest for people around here?

I'll start by adding -

Carlton in Round five. We should be a bit more settled under the new coach by then, some of the under-50 gamers will have a grip on their increased role in the absence of the veteran depth players Ward/Brown/Johnstone/Pickett/Bizzell. I'd love this to be the breakout game for a new Melbourne. Not our first win, of course, but the first game we really, really show there's something powerful coming through. I don't quite hate Carlton, it's more like disgust.

Round 3: V Geelong at KP. I know it sounds like i just like punishment, but it's a match i always look forward to cause it's our last connection to local Football and i LOVE going down there, screeming until my throat is sore, and getting dirty looks from the local ferals!

Round 11: QB, DUH!

Round 14: Our first match against Brisbane at the MCG since 1999(?). It's been too long, and i'm so increadibly happy it's over with. While i'm still not comfortable with us selling games to Canberra, it's better than the GABBAtoir.

Round 19: Our ONLY Friday night game, thank you very much AFL. Against Geelong, if we are in contention for the finals it could make for a big night.

ROUND 1

Season opener against Hawthorn. Great way to kick off the season and enjoy easter with a win over that scummy mob.

ROUND 7

Revenge against Fremantle at the MCG after Hackland and the Dockers dominated us at the G last year. Game will be significant for me as I'll be heading overseas for a couple of years shortly after this game.

I thought it'd be longer than this before we were re-writing history regarding TJ. Depth player is a little harsh!

It would be nice to get a win over the Blues, but if I had to choose one guaranteed home and away match win, it'd have to be QB.

You're right, should've been veteran and depth players, or something. But the sentiment is right - young players competing for newly opened opportunities.

Mention of Johnstone has me thinking the round 14 game against Brisbane at the 'G. I'm reckoning Bartram is the obvious match-up for TJ, similar build that's for sure.

I'm slightly bitter about TJ letting us down for so many years, but not in a nasty kind of way. I'd love to see him tackled fairly but effectively again and again and again until he cries. That's all. So Maybe Junior on to him.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
