Cousins Sacked!!!

Recommended Posts

Was always going to happen.

West Coast better not get away with this, however. Two of their contracted players involved in this rubbish YET AGAIN. I don't care if they don't tax WC's pick 3, even though it would be very self-serving for us Melbourne supporters to hope for that result. The integrity of the AFL comes into question if West Coast go un-punished again. If the AFL are serious about stamping out drugs, they need to come down on the clubs as well as the players. If clubs are penalised, then it puts the onus on them to keep THEIR players in line.

The realist in me says West Coast will get off scot-free, however, which would be a disgrace. How can the AFL be so pig-headed and stubborn on some issues, and yet so flimsy and flat-out pathetic when it comes to others? Punish them, Vlad, or you are the most over-sized mouse that has ever feined to be a man.

I dont condone what he has done. I feel sorry for the loss of a great athlete and the impact it has on all around him.

I hope he works it out and cleans his life up.

Its a sad lesson to all about the impact of drugs taken outside the provision of proper medical guidance and supervision.

I have no sympathy for WCE and AFL who have condone Cousins and his behaviour up to now for their own ends.

I might've had some sympathy for WCE had they not rushed him back when he obviously wasn't ready. IMO they had an obligation to their player and they did not meet it.

As for Cousins, well...

As for Cousins, well...

Not sympathy for West Coast.

They knew about Ben's issues for a long long time and turned a blind eye.

The people in charge of that club went on national TV and declared that the club was drug-free.

West Coast protected him because he was a champion player. When they found out just how bad his drug issue was, and the sort of company he kept off the field, they took the captaincy off him... that is not a severe enough punishment. And as you said, they rushed him back because they wanted to win games.

They don't care about Cousins, and here's the proof... they've sacked him the minute things got too ugly. Had they dealt with the issue when it first came to hand, then maybe Ben wouldn't be in this position.

And lets not talk about the other cancer at that club, one Daniel Chick, who has only just been delisted.

You are not serious, are you?

What good could possibly come of getting him?

Firstly, he doesn't fit with our under 23 policy

Secondly, he doesn't fit with our 'no criminals or drug addicts' policy

He needs to go to rehab and stay there, not continue to be protected by the AFL.

I don't want someone with his problems anywhere near our club, which is full of impressionable young kids who probably grew up admiring Cousin's on field behaviour and might start copying his off field behaviour.

It's a risk that we can't afford to take, especially on a 29 year old drug addict.

And he might be a champion player, but he is definitely NOT a champion 'bloke'.

He is not coming anywhere near Jones, Bell, etc.

No way are they going to become druggies like Cousins.

If we think it's pretty bad of Carroll, Brock and Rivers to get into a minor scuffle somewhere in Europe, how can we even consider having someone like Cousins at the MFC? We can't. Case closed.

That's why it's imposible to take you seriously 90% of the time.

what a shame. a once great role model, a rising star winner, a brownlow medallist...when you sign up to play AFL you make a life long commitment to be a role model and it is not a choice, it is a fact. cousins has had a huge problem and whether hes been cheating the system since he got back from rehab or he has been depressed over the last couple of weeks, there is not a real excuse for him...i wish him the best of luck in the future

Just watched the ABC news (7pm Melb) where they claimed the drug found was 'thought' to be valium and that he didn't have a prescription.

Also stated Chick had cocaine and cannabis but was released without charge.

This is bizarre!

how so??? he only got busted yesterday.

This has been brewing for a while

He was going to get sacked even if yesterday never happened

Once again, Yze_magic is 100% right and leaves every major news organization in the county in his dust

Hutchy can only dream of having the connections I have

Yeah and you confidently predicted that Colin Sylvia would finish Top 5 in our best and fairest. Wonderful strike

rate you've got going!

Time to realise no-one takes you seriously, and if you keep putting enough 'bold predictions' out there that one

day one will eventually come to fruition...

you have to admit, he was pulling everyones legs but it actually did happen. it's pretty clever and i suppose lucky, but if u asked anyone where cousins would be next year, everyone would have thought he would be a dead set eagle

The club has abandoned their player.

I know they had no choice but to sack him, but I hope they don't just wash their hands clean of him and leave him to spiral out of control even more.

They got his best playing years, he was their leader, their highest profile player, he won them a flag, he brought in the cash and the fans. Now that he's become too much of a problem they dump him.

It would be nice if the club and his now former teammates continue to stick around. He might be a drug addict, but that doesn't mean he is not entitled to support. He has nothing left now, and that is likely to push him over the edge.

This whole situation highlights just how flawed the system is, but as long as Fonz and his band of merry men keep burying their heads in the sand, it's all alright, isn't it?

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
