Players available in the PSD

Austin Lucy is an interesting one. I thought being drafted and then de-listed after one year was poor form from Essendon. I've seen the Zillmere Eagles play a bit and Austin has played up forward and looked the part making the AFLQ team of the year. He was drafted as a key back and didn't last 12 months on an AFL list. Many people are still mystified by his treatment. From all accounts he's a good kid with some size and a bit of fire in the belly. I'd be interested to see if he gets picked up again. Probably a long shot.

Carlton have flagged the possibility of not even taking part in the PSD - Carlton considers bypassing pre-season draft. The article states that they would do so "if a suitable seasoned player is not available at pick two" but my guess is that salary cap onsiderations might play a part given the squillions Judd is costing.

This part is of interest as well -

"Melbourne, which has the third choice in the draft, also is considering Tenace, whom Geelong wishes to keep."

he is young and has pace. we could do worse if we have a spot on the list and are paying him nothing.

Tenace has pace and meets our under 24 target. Good option in comparison to the others available. .

With 3 picks in the top 21 and then a couple of later picks I think taking a punt on a recycled player in the PSD is worthwhile

Tenace might have pace but his disposal is questionable especially under pressure and he shows very little defensive pressure and pace when he does not have it. He should fit well into the MFC midfield mix with those shortcomings.

good point RE his disposal and his defence shortcomings. i am interested to know if you think the aim is to have a full list of players who work hard both ways with excellent disposal etc or if that is not always 100% realistic and perhaps having a player who doesnt bring that but brings something else we sorely lack (pace) into the equation. you can teach defensive pressure, but you can't teach pace, and thats what its going to come to down, if we think we can teach him to work harder. but do we out and out ignore any body who doesnt fit the specific criteria, regardless of what else they bring?

I agree, the last thing we need as another mid with questionable disposal. I'd prefer to take a putn on a VFL/SANFL/WFL player or Little from the hawks.

I'm still having nightmares of seeing Paul Hopgood play over 100 games with Melbourne....

I'd take Tenace. PSD contains either damaged goods or imperfect goods. Tenace falls into the preferable latter category and his deficiencies can be addressed. He fits the prescribed age bracket and Bailey's need for speed. Certainly worth a punt.

Correct, and having lost hb/mids with questionable disposal we certainly have room for him

According to this Age article (which is mainly about Carlton signing every good young Irish prospect under the sun) Jared Brennan will re-sign with the Lions -

Carlton plunders Irish teen stocks.

"The Brisbane Lions, meanwhile, look certain to have reached an agreement with the disgruntled Jared Brennan. Brennan, who had shown interest in playing for Essendon, is expected to re-sign on a three-year deal."

Mark Johnson is -- or at least was -- a better player than Moorcroft. Moorcroft was a dud before well before he ever came to Melbourne.

That said, I don't want Johnson either. His serviceable best is long behind him.

i fail to see why any club would let go a 'future gun' and struggle even more to see how carlton and richmond will pass him up if he is going to be a 'future gun'.

Good point.

Its why you treat with great suspicion and caution any poster's assessment of a prospect especially those that gush.

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak
