Johstone will be 28 in July next year. He has been on the senior list for 10 years. He has undoubted talent but we just don't see it consistently. It is impossible not to have major doubts about his professionalism in terms of his preparation. Do any of those who don't want to trade Travis think he has got anywhere near the best out of himself. When all this is taken in the context of our rebuild around our 23 and under talent he is tradeable because realistically he is unlikely to be a member of our 13th Premiership but may deliver us a Top 20 pick who may be.

If Dean Bailey sets a standard where talented under achievers are not tolerated then that'll be fine by me.

Ok...lets be a little realistic about this....

We rate ( sorry the general consensus apparently is.....) that TJ is in the top ten of our club. now thats probably true. It says more about the general ste of our club rather than the actual calibre of the player.

Bit like the perennial student's report card ....."has ability...can do better " and thats Trapper, has promised so much for SOooooooooo long without consistently ( read people...c.o.n.s.i.s.t.e.n.t.l.y ) delivering. Always within a whisker..never over the line for more than a couple of games.

We as a club often get starry eyed and biased in our appreciation of our players; god knows Im accused of it..lol ..hehe . i digress. But just for the moment lets step back and see what the rest of foooty world think..

Ok..how many clubs are champng at the bit and killing the grass as they stampede to pick up Trapper ??????/

lets count them shal we... after me... there's.... hmm...and...ummm.. welll... !! actually ; theres no one !! Now wake up and smell the flowers !! He just a good average player ..nothing excelling or brilliant. Maybe by "our" rose colured standards but not apparently by anyone elses. Indee more interest in Frosty ffs !!

Its not about dissing th ejumper..nor belittling a player...just calling it as it is. we'd be lucky to get a second round pick at present...such is life

He is up for grabs because he is an underachieving, gambling, drinking lazy bumb who could have been better than Judd but never cared. He is the typical player that plays for the pay cheque. We see his attitude on the field, but clearly the club sees it off field as well and that was the final straw. 3 years too late imo.

you have no idea and just look in from the outside!

remember he did turn down a massive offer from collingwood to stay with the dees!

i wouldnt think about the b&f results everyear he polls the most brownlow votes nearly for us but is never that high in our own!

Also he had a serious bout with OP, it restriceted him massively from 03 to 05!

its pretty sad the amount of people bagging all our players most often not knowing the truth claiming you have sources when you know nothing just bored at home! The players could read this saying this loser who sits at home and slags of players because you were never good enough to be one!

The hard simple fact is... Hes up for trade.. You can dance around that however you like. You can come up will all the sob stories you like but if the club is fed up.. thats good enough for me.. !!

Im sorry but saying he is inconsistent is not good enough. Hello the whole club is inconsistent, everyone knows our every second year up, the next year down. Thats the whole bloody club and putting it all on someone talented like Johno is bloody unfair. Everytime I watch him on TV the commentators always say he is one in a million, hes underperformed a bit over the years, SO HAS THE CLUB. When we are on, he is on, and I always feel better knowing he has the ball

He wants to leave.

I'd love to know on what basis you make that comment "godees".

I know it for a fact that he's as keen as mustard to have a huge 2008 now that Daniher has gone. Daniher treated Trav with contempt several times and now that Daniher is out the door a fully fit Trav can once again dominate like he did in 2005.

Not many know it, but it took the Medico's at Melbourne until the end of 2004 to work out why Trav struggled getting a strong body and struggled to recover from injury. Trav was diagnosed as lactose intolerant at the end of 04, and we all know how his 05 season was once he had a full pre-season. People also seem to forget he was equal 3rd in the Brownlow that year.

Hopefully the club is just trying to put a rocket up Trav and Carrol, as there's several players who should be moved on well before these 2.

Trav is the type of player you need in finals to win you games. He should be wrapped up and embraced by the club.

It is very possible that TJ is like a child. I remember brownlow night when he was licking everyone’s face...I don't think they will be inviting him back. He is however very important depending on who gets injured next year. With a tougher midfield of jones, brock and Jmac then our receivers Tj, Green, Bruce, Yze can hopefully get allot more of the ball out of congestion and kicking to our forward line. Look at any successful clubs they keep their disposal kings and ensure they roam the packs. Kind of like malcescki or P burgoyne.

The real problem here is getting rid or Jamar while he still has a bit of value. He was injured so clubs will hope he can improve and jump on him. Big players are too hard to find. If we get meesen then Jamar needs to go for a second round pick. This year looks to be a good draft.

And in other news I was sad to hear that B miller may be off the table. I don't know what he does behind the scenes to keep his place every year but It’s time we drop him like a lead balloon. He plays 1 good game every year. 1! that’s it. He needs to go!

But unless TJ is a complete [censored] he should stay.

I tend to agree with that. TJ has as much talent as Judd but what makes Judd a champ and TJ a good player is Judd works his arse off.

FOr e.g. if u watch Judd and he'll get to 8/10 contests while TJ jogs to 5/10 contests. That's 3 extra contests Judd can exert his influence.

His lazy (plain and simple) and if someone can unlock the enigma that is TJ, they deserve a noble prize.

Leigh Matthews' constant pushing of Travis is what we needed to do 10 years ago. Where we patted him on the head and said well done when we got something (anything) out of him, Matthews will stay on his arse until his best at Melbourne becomes his worst at the Lions. It's just what he does.

for those that cant get the f*** over it

watch this video just to get the faintest idea why it was good to get rid of him

If that's the sole reason why TJ was outed then there would be about 43 players on the mfc list who would be worried about their job security ATM.

Johnstone was woeful on the weekend, and has had a slow start to the year.

It was a good trade, and I look forward to seeing Grimes play. he has a long, distinguished career ahead of him, while TJ is pretty much done and dusted.

McLean by a mile. Doesn't make his kick any better

i always loved the creativity johnstone could create with a brilliant switch of play, but it was all to rare. he would pull of the impossible, then turn it over with a basic skill error that left you pulling your hair out. if i had a player kicking for goal with my life, i would take mclean. in every other department of the game, i would choose the same bloke.

Considering the posiiton that we currently find ourselves in then that's a fair assessment.

SOMEONE EXPLAIN TO ME WHY I WALK IN THE DOOR AND HEAR THAT TJ IS UP FOR GRABS.

Why oh why oh why?

I am getting tired of the poor decision making of the club, they make bad decisions. Offer someone else you idiots, no-one plays like him. What exactly is the issue with him? Not consistent? In that case the whole team is up for grabs because inconsistent is their middle name.

I am not happy!

Rant over

Ummmm.. NO.

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
