Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Say No To Sheedy

MFC need someone with the credentials and someone they will respect. I don't think Mckenna is the answer. Sheedy could bring alot of passion into our game, just having someone that has coached premierships would bring more self belief. Hard and tough is what we need in a coach to get rid of our negative attitude

The good thing is that Garry Lyon hates Sheedy. If Lyon still has any clout then we can be safe in the knowledge that Sheedy won't be anywhere near the MFC.

im not gonna bother arguing with the rest of what you say when you post commets like this. try reading this article that was published only last week...

Gary Lyon: "Sheedy Perfect"

"He is a perfect fit for the Melbourne Football Club."

Let's remember a few things.

1. Publicity doesn't win flags. If it did then Barassi would still be coaching Melbourne.

2. Past flags don't mean future flags. If it did then Barassi's 5 year plan would have reaped a massive harvest from 81 onwards. It didn't.

Essendon's form is almost as bad as Richmond's and Melbourne's.

No other club wants Sheedy so why should we? He's all hype and hot air and has run out of substance.

Publicity directly doesnt win anything. what it might do is build a corprorate environment and fincial standing that allows the kind of facilities to enhance the playing assetts we have and help attract those we dont.

Past flags indicate an ability. No guarantee granted of future success. But someone who has coached to a premiership is more likely to repeat it that someone who hasnt .

Last time I looked essendon were still above us. Theyve also had their poblems. Point taken.

You know for a fact somehow that Sheedy is in no one else's sights ??

Building the right corporate environment is the job of the CEO not the coach.

Past flags indicate an ability...in the past! Look at the recent Premiership coaches. Worsfold, Roos, Williams. All won flags in their first AFL coaching appointments.

He ain't gunna coach Essendon next year. Nor Carlton. Freo aren't looking at him the coaching role. Only club that might want his is Richmond and that's all emotion based. Why take someone no one else wants? When your neighbour puts out his rubbish, you don't collect it!

Mate, what are you on? The Bombers are half a game outside the 8 (2 games off third spot) with 4 rounds to play. Us and Richmond have won 4 and a half games between us! They have beaten both of last years Grand Finalists (in successive weeks) and the Crows (prelim finalists) twice this year! You are drawing an extremely long bow to suggest that Essendon's form is anywhere near as bad as ours or the Tigers!

When your neighbour puts out his rubbish, you don't collect it!

depends what he puts out !!

You simply dont want him at any cost. Its your prerogative to hold that stance.

Its the CEO's job to build an environement ..Yep. he does that by attracting and appointing those best able to serve the greater purpose. Many here happen to feel that Sheeds will bring far more to the club than simply coaching proess.

We'll just have to agree to have differing views.

Get Sheedy and go backwards.

A couple of years of wedded excitement and then it's all over quickly with a messy end.

Look to the future rather than hang on to another coach's past glory years.

Sheedy won't even make the short list.

Get Sheedy and build a club.

Three years of passion, excitement, enthusiasm. Build a membership to 35,000 plus.

Show supporters what it means to be a part of something exciting that builds over those three years to a premiership!

Make the MFC the heart of the competition!

Sheedy should be the shortlist!

About the publicity thing, who do you see 3/4 times talking about a team? The coach, not the CEO. If the coach is favoured by the public/sponsors then generally that means the public/sponsors will come.

Sheedy ought / ought not be appointed primaily on what he can do for the team. i.e coaching.

However unlike many others vying for the position he brings a lot more, in fact he is the ONLY one that can/will do this. This I see as a bonus, not the motive for wanting him.

Can some of the more senior posters here recall how Norm Smith went at South after leaving us?

Norm had great inital success ..1969 got the Swannies to 9th..then the next year really ramped them up.. Into the finals with a 4th. went a little belly up after that. Dont know if you would ascribe that all to Norm or the club as a victim of the then zoning etc.

A couple of ordinary anti Sheedy posts full of incorrect facts. I know these are just your opinions, but plenty of correct information is readily available. Why dont you try again and check out some of the statements you have made? I also haven't been a huge Sheedy fan but his presence over the next 2 or 3 years could only be a bonus to what we have on offer now. What he offers is some degree of success, mental toughness, player respect, organisation, image, experience and knowhow not really in huge abundance with many of the other applicants IMO. Take a breath and think about what all the others could offer and only Pagan comes anywhere near Sheedy's abilities. I say give him the job for 2 years with an option for a 3rd and reassess end of 09. Oh, and by the way , 3 clubs are reportedly all keen to talk with him, 4 if you listen to some senior financial backers involved back at Essendon! I agree with Warren Dean and his basic ideas.

And Matthew Allen, Richard Cole, and Justin Murphy.

Every team has a list of dud recruits. Do Heffernan and Morecroft ring any bells?

And whats wrong with a short term solution? Daniher's 10 year plan of rollercoaster proportions has delivered us back to the same position we started in '97.

Give Sheedy 3 years, tell him to develop youth, recruit, build a platform, spruik the club. Then work like hell to develop a suitable coach to take over the reigns. Voss may even want to coach by then.

all i'll say is that, whilst you mention a number of teams that he didn't win premierships with, he still managed to consistently create a team capable of winning a premiership, how many coaches can claim to have moulded 4 teams into potential contenders?

his team went backwards after 93? that was expected, their success was not. he was able to lead an in-experienced team to a premiership and watch as interstate sides won 3 of the next 5 premierships before he managed again to create a contender, 3 brilliant years of football.

Pardon the crudity but IMO we need someone who can coach men, who has with rat cunning and who can instil some mongrel into the side. Now, I wonder who fits the bill the best of all the prospective candidates.

hang on...i'll just go consult the Martians !!

"In 1986 the Essendon side was virtually the Victorian side yet he couldn't get them the flag."

the reason that the Victorian side was virtually the same

as the essendon side in 1986 was that Sheeds coached/selected the Vic team and used it to run some of his out of form/unfit players into form.

Two weeks down the track and does anyone still want Sheedy?

It's amazing what a couple of losses from the Bombers will do!

I'm still of the same opinion........if he's regarded as the best available coach, then great......just don't make a decision to appoint him for any other reason than that!

yep...still gladly have the man.

Without doubt still the best man for the job. The Bombers have dropped a couple, but of the assistants in the running - notably Bond and McKenna - their sides have gone even worse, losing to the bottom 2 sides! The good news for those anti-Connolly people out there is that Freo's renewed vigour is a good indication that Connolly will be out of calculations for the Demon's job.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
