What do you think of young Simon Buckley?

I rate him extremely high. He has not had much game time but when he has got the ball I already feel very confident the ball will hit the target.

He is a tall midfielder who is fast and can side step the opposition with ease.

With young guys like Buckley, Newton and Jones. Im pumped about our kids.

I'm not that excited about him. He looks ok when he get's it but I still think his waaaaaaaaay out of his depth at this level. I think he deserves more time, but I am not sold on him as an AFL player yet. He looks classy but he doesn't get his hands on it enough yet to be damaging in any way!

Yep I said it in an other thread, he done a few good tackles against Port and a beautiful spearing pass to robbo's chest, still a bit to look forward to yet. :)

I can't figure him out sometimes.

I watched him at Sandy and he'll play a ripping game n i think we've picked up a beauty.

I rock up next week n watch Bucks play n he'll look shocking as he pads out a pathetic game.

Will the real Bucks please stand up?

He is still a kid, and has a lot of work to do, but he has potential.

He gets bumped off the ball way too easily, and just doesn't work anywhere near hard enough defensively.

Good to see him getting a taste of it though.....he will be better for the experience.

What do you mean doesnt get his hands on it enough. In an article on Melbournefc.com.au recently, Riley pointed out the fact that against the Roos he mentioned that Bucks had 15 possesions in 50% of game time.

Our highest possesion getter on that day was Junior, he had 21 possies and played 90% of the game. He got it alot that day. He just hasnt been given the oppo to stay out there like the other boys. But he was nearly our highest possesion getter in half a game, he can get the pill.

From what I've seen, I like the kid!!!

Given a solid pre-season, the right coaching staff and some hard work, I reckon the boy will play every game next year and be a solid contributor in 85% of them!!

One of the few who can hit a target whilst running and will become a nice utility player!

Hope he becomes a decent player for the football club,as i won his jumper on the Melbourne Website.

Only time will tell, so far the kid looks o.k.

He needs as much game time as possible, but going by what's been happening he'll get dropped this weekend leaving Ward and Brown in the team.

Super cynical there!

Considering Riley is constantly signing his praises and Buckley + Newton have been all the talk about exciting young kids at Melbourne on SEN. I highly highly doubt he will miss anything for brown and ward. We are losing, youth will get call over old always.

Tell that to CJ and PJ...

The PJ non-selection was mystifying. CJ on the other hand has more than earned every demotion he's received.

Buckley is interesting - would like to see him get a bit more game time so we can assess whether he has the ability to get plenty of the footy given the opportunity. Has some skills, has a nice Bate-like side-step. Not convinced that he has clean hands though.

bate couldnt sidestep lance whitnalll.....

he has little awareness and seems to be always caught with the ball one area his game really lacks

Agreed but not as bad as Frawleys evasion skills, or Nathan browns awareness.

Buckley dodge everyone without even making it look special.

How quick is he? Like daniel Bell quick. these guys who are fast need to start running with pace.

on bell this kid could turn or defence around. whelan and him could really create if they both played in the same team.

FFS, Melbourne has frustrated me more this year than any other, even when we were completely shiite (wait a minute...) Why the [censored] would you drop Buckley and still play Ward and Brown? Would any other team even consider having these two on current form in their team? I think not.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
