I will be the first to admit then Daniel Ward isnt a gun however i think he warrants a one year deal to finish off his career.

WHY

He is the only defender with Belly who gives any run at all and his disposal isnt as bad as argued

Unlike alot of the team he shows passion for the jumper

When will we all agree that C Johnson is not AFL standard and therefor is not Wards replacment nor anyone else on the list

Nathan Brown = washed up ROT

And he needs the contract to pay off his gambling debts.

yeah, another year for Ward. Not finished with him yet I hope

Respect for Wardy - been a good servant for the club - but i'm sick of him consistantly kicking the ball down the opposition's throat

Hope i get to cheer him on at this years grand final, as he drives around in the motorcade pre-match

Well I'll stand on the other side of the fence and pray for his culling from the list, respect your thoughts, just don't agree.

Cheers

I understand he is not a favourite and alot of supporters want his head but i just think theres no one better to play his role.

Yes there is. Definitely Bartram and Whelan, and probably Petterd given experience.

I think the same Maurie.

Which makes me think that if you could get Sunday's team and:

Get Neitz and Robertson fit

Have Bruce and Bell not in their first week back from a hamstring

Add Johnstone, Bartram, Rivers, Petterd, Whelan, Carroll, Davey, maybe Dunn and even Yze, it would look a hell of a lot better.

hasnt played enough games to get that accolade

Bartram - Run with player not rebounding defender. Basically Godfrey's replacement in short

Whelan - Doesnt rebound, stay at home defender on oppostions most dangerous small forward (i.e Brown, Ablett, Didak)

Pettard - More closer to the role but again young and needs to be eased into footy, not ready made.....

Other two are different type of player.

On the other side to that is,

Don't get caught out by running of their opponent and turning the ball over and watching said opponent kick goal, Bartram did play HBF for a lot and did it well, wheels does rebound but usually hits a target quickly instead of running it as much.

ward's run off half back is quite good but is useless if you hit up an opponent each time!!

undoes all of his good work by turning the ball over - now that is unacceptable and would not be tolerated in any other team!!

gawn!!

This years GF with the retirees doing a lap of honour will be something. Hird, Kouta, possibly Buckley.

Cannot agree.........Ward makes mistakes........but his are no more frequent or worse than Wheatley, Brown, Bruce, Green, or anyone else for that matter who misses targets during a game.

Ward, like all the other players, performs much better when the team is playing with confidence, and playing well. You make it sound like he turns the ball over on every possession!

I think Ward should be kept for another year.........we struggle for run from half back as it is........Petterd isn't the answer......not yet anyway, and neither is Bartram. Wheatley and Ward IMO should be kept!

In our group of supporters Ward is known as The Turnover Merchant. Say no more.

No doubt over the next few weeks different supporters will plead to retain Bizzell, Ward, Godfrey, Pickett Holland, Brown etc

The best guide to future performance is recent past performance.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
