NON-MFC: Round 5

I'm torn about tonight's match.

Sure, it would be nice to see the Blues blow a big lead again.

But I'm also keen to see them get thumped from the first bounce, and suffer a humiliating 30-goal loss that sees Voss sacked and many on their list give the game away for good, prompting the club to go into receivership and be banished from the league.

What scenario would you prefer?

I like this scenario a lot….

Adelaide really needs this win if they're to challenge for top four.

They should win easily (40-50 points)

First quarter should be a good watch

Would be nice for 186 to be eclipsed by the magical 200 but Blues aren't that bad

Just 30 goals? Bit low.

Either sound like a win win, both look poor on Voss and the team, so I’ll be chuffed with either.

Chuck in a few sore players as well for whoever they play next week.

Terrible set of games this round aside from Sat night

Could be 5+ blow outs

Who's gathering around? Not many

I will be heading to 3 games this weekend with some being closer than you might think.

I expect Carlton, GC and St Kilda to be competitive.

Option B thanks Larry 😊.

It’s a dud concept that everyone hates except South Australians, and industry folks who get a free weekend away. It kills me every year hearing the media tell us how great it is.

It’s also the reason we now have such a limp start to the season with the AFL catering to annoyed Northern states that they didn’t get Gather Round - so instead we have Opening Round and weird byes forced onto us.

Just remembered there's footy on tonight and I can watch Carlton get royally humped from the comfort of my lounge room. Not that I have any affection for the Crows of course. As for Nibbler I'm pretty ambivalent. As long as he doesn't play a 100 games for them that's all that really matters.

10 goals up at half time

Lose by 17 goals.

I could also argue why doe ls the GF always at G, why does Collingwood always play Essendon on Anzac Day, Round zero but I could go on and on.

All i can say it that for every visitor I come across around 8/10 support it and seem to come back.

It's an unwritten law that the AFL media machine has to churn out pro Gather Round propaganda around the clock, much in the way they do with the two northern expansion clubs. Dissent is not allowed. Just look at their reaction to Chris Scott calling wildcard round out for what it really is.

Off to Gather Round tomorrow morning for a belated 60th. With some great mates so will ignore the media garbage and enjoy the food, wine and footy.

Funny how the Crows club song has the same tune as The Sash my Father Wore. They should get a flute band to play it at home games 😆

Hasn't this match risen to dizzy heights!! 🙄

2 minutes ago, whatwhat say what said:

losing clearances but the baggers are terrible at just about every other part of the game

i take that back; they're dominant at ground level in f50 in the last 3 mins!

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
