POSTGAME: Rd 04 vs Gold Coast

Are there still any Chander haters in the house, or are they finally starting to see why he'd be one of the first picked every week?

I'm just going off the eye test but I feel that one aspect of Gawn's game that had really taken off again is his tapwork. For a few years I thought it could actually be quite iffy but over the past couple of seasons it seems to have returned to its 2018 best.

I barely see him misdirect his taps anymore.

Max has always been able to hit targets on the move – it’s just that our frustrating game plan was following everybody else making it a dour contest in the middle.

Trying to get them to do something different is like pushing [censored] up hill.

Glad King managed it.

So many positives but Sparrow was an absolute maniac in that last quarter. Like an out of control boulder with vices for arms .

He’s very indicative of the two way running and manic tackling this year. It’s been a few years since it’s been this good.

SO DO I.

I got on the train at Jolimont by myself but was only by myself for five seconds coz I found myself in a carriage full of Dees maniacs! Crazy beautiful loud Dees peeps and now I have about 30 new friends and no voice.

YEAH THE MIGHTY [censored] DEES!

WE GAVE ‘EM HELL!!!!!

Very happy 3 generations of supporters here today. We haven’t been this fit since 21. Tough and hungry, I’ve never seen so many opposition handballs going to feet or ground. Pressure was immense, perfect 15th birthday present for the boy. now for the winners drive back to Leongatha and more than likely watch the effing replay.

Hope we sent st kilda a massive choccy box for Easter

Thanks for Steele

My new fave player

How was that blind turn in the last

Like from a movie

Jeez that was fun

I said pre season on here we’re prelim bound and we looked it today

Was down at the skate park in Lennox Head, my boys skating, I was hitting some golf balls, watching the game and saw a little tacker visiting the area with his number 11 jersey on. Wandered over said to his mum and said “hey mate just wanted to say Go Dees!”

What a day

Saints supporters in denial about Steele saying Flanders has more run. Delusional. Flanders is bog average whereas Steele a gun

I went ...

Ran into a dingbat over officious power tripping security guard on the gate.

And for the first time in 56 years wasn't allowed in after i simply asked him to calm the farm and not be so aggressive.

But i'll take the win entry or no entry and this agro from a contracted security firm simply reinforces my reasons for rarely going to games anymore.

What a beauty particularly that third quarter.

This was a great team effort from all.

Loved how Kingy threw Petty up forward late. He did pretty well down back but also held his own up forward.

Steele, Koz, Sharp, Chin & Maxy were on fire for much of the match.

Aided by so many great assists. Loved Vinyl's (LPickett) 2nd half where he really got involved and stood up in some key moments.

Kolt probably had his best game in the red & blue. Just needs to keep building his tank to get to a few more contests, close down on opponent a tad quiicker and work on his HB.

The snake's speckieee & goal.

Mihocek's steadiness and strength early.

The instinctive daring footy, the vision, the tap ons, the coolness in a crisis and the ability to shift up or down a gear as needed and recognise when to go or slow.

The list goes on.

The only blight on the game, apart from the silly security, was 22 who still appears to have us in the gun after all these years.

Lid still firmly on but exciting stuff so far from Kingy & the boys 💪🏼👏🏻

They can say that all they like, the reason GC had a ‘hiccup’ is because we didn’t allow them to play their game. We were all over them.

Agree - we smashed them in the second half.

They couldn’t handle the relentless pressure.

We were all over them!

Best 4 quarter effort this season. May we have many many more to come.

BTW Jack Steele is the best steal of the offseason Saints what were u thinking!

Go Dees.

Does Jack like playing at the G more than Docklands?

Playing on a real football oval with good turf and no flippin roof?

If only Judas was around on Easter to see this

He has probably [censored] off to the sunny coast with his mrs because he is injured again. Not one ounce of leadership in him.

I wouldn’t be too pleased if I was a suns fan (if they exist?)

You would think Trac would have some pretty significant intel on their opponent today and could have come in handy in the box for them today.

So proud of the boys tonight. Going into the game i was unsure what would happen, i thought we’d keep up a good fight but maybe they’d be a bit more cleaner and class above us in the end but boy was i wrong. I’m so impressed with the effort, pressure and run the dees are providing. It’s so exciting as supporters watching us play this new game style and after our third win (btw if you told me we’d be 3-1 after 4 games I wouldn’t believe you) you can see the boys are having so much fun too. I hope the boys know how excited supporters are. I’d just like to make a special shout out to every single dees fan who rocked up to the G today, kicking myself I was struck down with COVID but watching on the TV seeing so much red and blue around was great to see especially with it being Easter Sunday and you all got so loud it sounded like 50+ thousand on the tv I could only imagine what it was like at the ground. Were fun and dangerous - GO DEES!!!

Our defence all over the ground was great! We didn’t allow loose players and were first to the ball. We were hungrier than them

Deary me. Who was the DH in Kingy's presser that asked if Jack Steele keeps his place next week?

Just watching the game on replay. Midway through 2nd quarter and had I watched it live would have been a broken tv with the standard of umpiring

Thanks to Goody for playing him

Are we expecting Gary Ablett Jnr to return to our team?

WTF question is that??

Okay, @WheeloRatings and any other stats people or someone who follows SirSwampThing, what is the longest streak for having 20+ disposals and 20+ hitouts.

'Who is the greatest ruckman ever' is going to replace 'what city are you in' and 'what year is it' in the paramedic head injury checklist questions.

The journo went online & apologised. He meant to say jake melksham.

I dont want to be Debbie Downer, but jeez that bloke is a dead set plonker.

Always seems to crucify, but that might be confirmation bias

But my big issue with him is its like he always wants to impose himself on the game.

The free he tried to pay against Langdon in the back pocket when the boundary umpire had already called it touched out was the ultimate waving his d*** around moment. Nah, you clearly know better than the lowly boundary umpire who literally has one job and was standing two metres away. Infuriating.

The bastards searched my bag like I just got off a flight from Colombia. They found my smuggled Red Bulls and boy the power trip was real. Good job, chumps. You thwarted a major crime.

I’m just bitter that I had no energy drinks today. But hey, I didn’t need them anyways!

I was there and was EXCELLENT today limited possesions but liked what I saw. Will post a review on Demonland of all Dees players tommorrow!

Thought Laurie did a few nice things for his first full game at AFL in nearly 2 years. Missed a couple targets like many did but wouldn't be opposed to him getting a few more games.

Petty shifted forward a few times which says to me a key defender probably makes way for a Fritsch or Kentfield/Jeffo

Must admit Petty looks a different player when he is released into the ruck/midfield. At 6.7 he is tall enough to compete at CBs and today he held his own at times against Witts. But he also followed up at ground level, tackling and pushing the ball forward. Then as a mobile tall he was able to take a few marks and set up attacks. When released from the restrictions of being a key back or as a key forward, having a KPB breathing down your neck, he looks much more athletic, with Luke Jackson like attributes. Just how we utilise those qualities, if King chooses too, will be interesting

Pretty sure two tackles he laid lead to goals. Definitely one of Melksham’ in the 4th. He’s the hardest working player on the ground.

This is a great call.

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
