POSTGAME: Rd 04 vs Gold Coast

Featured Replies

First, a confession. Even in the absence of Humphrey and Petracca, I thought we would put up a gallant fight but be outgunned in the end.

The Suns must have been shocked by the Dees' energy, skill levels and willingness to wok for each other, traits which were all too often missing in the latter days of the Goodwin era.

If there is one special shout-out I would give it to Langford, who showed today that he has the potential to become one of the stars of the entire competition.

What a win!!

We're right back in business. Tackling was manic as were the 2nd efforts

We look a completely different team

The lid is off!

We're playing finals again!

Suddenly, we've got depth as well ... Fritsch, Bowey, Viney, Rivers, Heath, XT et al to somehow fit into the team

Pre-game I thought we needed GC to be off their game but we beat them fair & square in emphatic fashion

A great win and a great game of footy. Eminently watchable

Media refusing to give us credit still what will it take before we get taken seriously, saying it’s due to gc having an off game not because we made them play 4qtrs

Has the kicking I think, but still half a second off is his decision making

Agree, he is a victim of where he was drafted which isnt his fault. If he was drafted 25, we'd be singing his praises.

We were a huge chance to get up based on pressure and killing their forward handball. King coached the lights out in this game. He should give the coaches votes to himself.

One of those games you go to by yourself, expecting the kind of result to feel “philosophical” about when you get home

Then you end up yelling yourself hoarse and high-fiving multiple strangers.

I am SO [censored] impressed with our pressure right now. The lads were desperately starving them of space for three and a half quarters.

KEEP THAT UP!

Welcome back Melky!!!

I wonder how poor old Trac is doing?

was he at the game or whipping up some spag bol??

Reckon he was cranking the pasta-machine handle pretty hard today.

Saints, blues and Today 3 of my top 20 favorite wins I can remember. What a difference a coach and game plan can make!! Go Dee's

Xavier Lindsay you have proved me wrong i questioned your toughness and you shut me and alot of others down.

Well played young lad.

👏👏👏👏👏👏

Who does Maxy take to the cleaners next week?

According to Essendon's team sheet it is a Mr Withdrawal, Late Withdrawal. Will be assisted by 15-game defender-turned-ruck Lachie Blakiston.

Max's dominance in the hitouts-clearances today, against a ruck whose game is all about the hitouts, was beyond words. Was that his biggest personal game since he mauled Geelong in the final?

So many players to make a comment about but I definitely am not the one to condense it to three words!

Who is this 'Tom Sparrow' and is he related in some way to the one I recall from the first two rounds and previous five years?

Not what ABC radio was saying. They were loving our attacking play right to the death and were gushing that we were playing the kind of footy they liked to see.

I just told a Dogs fan at Flinders St station if they wanna make today perfect they need to win by 187 points.

Make that 191 points. Yes, I was there in 1979. No, I still haven't got over our 190 point drubbing by Fitzroy. Fitzroy FFS!

The Tom Sparrow haters have been very quiet these past two weeks. Hope they are becoming extinct

I wasn't happy with Spaz's output for the first couple of games and had him on my list of players to watch. I'm so happy to see him turning it around, he's got it in him to be a very good footballer and our next gen of the Viney/Steele's of this world. If we can see consistent output from him this season it will go a long way towards us having a dip in the finals/wildcard race.

I got him in the supercoach this week. He has played well the past couple weeks. He has another level to get to I suspect.

The past 2 weeks Langford has shown what we missed the first couple of games.

Not sure if jones has been working with him a lot, but I feel he is back & he is back jitting the scoreboard. Keep it going

Suns fans looked like lost MacDonald’s employees walking around the MCG today.

So surprised and proud of the players, coaches and supporters who went to the game. Brilliant outcome

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

Who would have imagined, when the season kicked off early last month, that Melbourne would emerge from the opening six weeks with wins over both Queensland powerhouses? At the time, Gold Coast and Brisbane were the competition’s early pace-setters, the flavours of the month, and the prospect of the Demons toppling both within the course of a fortnight seemed remote. Yet here they are, banking those scalps alongside home victories over two traditional Victorian rivals and building a quietly impressive resume.
