Sheedy is our MAN-think about it!

jaded you make a good point but i think with our current list we are in the unique situation of being able to draft young kids as we challange for the success. i dont think we will win it next year if we trade a name or two for first rounders but the year after we could be looking much better. i think we have a very strong core of young players who will be a good unit for 10 years. drafting around that could give a new coach (sheedy) a strong team for 10 years, and the chance to win more than one flag. it is not a case of trade to win it next year before the window closes, it is that we are already 3-4 years into a 6-7 year rebuilding phase with names like mclean, sylvia, jones, dunn, bate, newton, bell, bartram, pettered, frawley, etc already on board. he is not starting from scratch, he is picking up in the middle of an up.

IF THE BOARD HAS NOT APPROACHED SHEEDY TO COACH BY WEEKS END THEN SACK THE BLOODY LOT OF THEM!

How about Sheedy & Voss as a "team". Unfortunately, I'm not sure Sheedy can work with others, there's the problem. On listenting to the radio today, it was reasonably clear that Sheedy is a hard man with poor communication skills with players. I love his interpretation of the rules which (I believe) are constantly being changed because of him and his promotional skills. I'd love to say to the board - get Sheedy & Voss, so there is a succession plan in place. I'm a great Voss fan, and thought we'd easily get him, but now it seems like with the choices available, I agree we're low down on the list.

Other thing I love about Sheedy is his relationship and understanding of Indigenous players - he works well with them, understanding their needs & they perform for him. Any coach who cannot work well with Indig players is not worth considering. Jeff Farmer @ Melbourne & Freo quite different players.

Neale Daniher did a great job in his last few years as "club marketer" and I as I sit & listen to the radio - it's Neale Daniher who was on "before the game" after his departure, Neale in the news today talking about Sheedy. It wasn't Connelly or Pagan.

I'm really worried that with the "150 year" celebrations, that they will go for an "old boy".

Where's Todd Viney in these discussions?

Another issue is, after 27 years, can he go into a new environment and bring in some fresh changes? Will he be willing to take a back seat to Craig Cameron when it comes to recruiting?

The answer is no he won't. I don't want him. A lot of people mistake Essendon's rise as being predominantly based around Sheedy. He was good at what he did, but to do what Essendon have done relies on more than one man. He has a direct hand in who is recruited to a club and he often chooses the wrong blokes.

I've previously stated on Demonland that I don't want Sheedy to ever coach us, and think I labeled him senile, but I have changed my mind.

Not that he is my preferred option, but if he got the job I wouldn't mind, and think he could bring a lot to the club.

I don't think the club would appoint Sheedy.

I can't see him being prepared to jump through the necessary hoops to get the MFC job anyway.

The more I think about it, the more I keep coming up with one name that I think will end up as the MFC coach for next year.

My prediction is....... JOHN LONGMIRE !

I beleive they would not make sheedy go through the stupid crap they have said they will put coaches through.

I don't see that they have any choice......that is the process they have outlined that candidates need to go through to get the job, and to be honest I would be a little disappointed if they didn't do the proper due diligence in appointing a new coach.....and that includes Sheedy.

None of you can be serious! He is hardly at the age where he can be our next Rev and at the helm for 10 years. He is too old! We need someone young that has the potential to be a coach like Sheedy, a coach that can be around for 27 years. I dont doubt he is a great coach but he is definitely not the man for us, look at the bigger picture

If we wanted to have a coach for 27 years we would have signed ND for 17 more! Sheedy has changed like a chameleon during his career. He is not Just a coach. I would be happy if we got him because I think that he will want to win another flag and he loves the game in general. Perhaps he does hate melbourne, due to perceived class biases etc. I am hoping that he will still talk to us as I think that he has a lot to offer.

Do you have some inside insight into what's involved in the process or is it just crap because you've got no idea? Maybe our board should just read a few internet forums and base their decision on the opinions of people whose knowledge is based on rumour and innuendo?

Er well because it is a long term job and we need to look at the bigger picture. The max Sheedy would last would be 5 years & thats being generous then we are back where we started

Sheedy's first 5 years at Essendon went like this: 1981 - 5th, 1982-5th, 1983 - 2nd, 1984 - 1st, 1985-1st. A different era, I'll admit but he was competing against "super teams" such as Carlton and Hawthorn when the cheque book reigned supreme. The competition wasn't as even as today but the better teams were as a group, much stronger than todays. If he gave us 5 years like that I'd be pretty happy. The guy is a legend and I'm with Condemned - if the board hasn't made contact with him then they are not fair dinkum and should give the game away. Sheeds has forgotten more about footy than most of this current lot will ever know!

One thing that can definitely be guaranteed with Sheedy as your coach is that after 5 years you certainly won't be back where you started. We may not necessarily be in a great place but it will certainly be a different place.

Read what i wrote. i think the part "i believe" is a crucial part of what i wrote. In other words ill put it simply to you, I being me, with no inside knowledge of what the board would do, believe, just my opinion here, that sheedy being the coach he is and the record is there for all to see, would not have to sit through the crap that the other coaches will.

The so called process our club is throwing out there is fine a well for an inexperienced coach.

When you state that the "so-called process . . is crap", it suggests to me that you know something more about how the club will go about selecting the next coach. Further, it seems you have reason to despair over the process. I'm not attacking your right to have an opinion about Sheedy, just wondering how you can slate a process that hasn't been made public - unless of course you know more. If you don't, it seems strange to shoot your mouth off about something you know very little.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
