Itโ€™s only going to get worse with Tassie coming in and then a potential 20th team; the talent is spread absolutely too thin as it is. This game tonight is absolutely shocking, the amount of mistakes and turnovers is shocking.

Was your word of the day โ€œshockingโ€, by chance?

Doesnโ€™t help either that recruiters pick athletes over skillful players

Relax. North got this

This Bombers team remind me of us under Paul Roos except he knew what needed to be done. It's easy in hindsight but they should have taken Hawthorn's offer for Merrett.

The half arsed comeback makes it even funnier

Not sure how Essendon get out of this, been like it for years. Scott is a decent coach, maybe needs better assistants? On one of the shows they were pointing out how inexperienced their coaching panel was - but they've only got themselves to blame. Losing Giansiracusa hurt apparently.

we should be aiming to beat both these teams

These are the kind of poor teams that frequently embarrassed us. Happens all too often.

Bing, genuinely not sure how you reach this conclusion. I think he's very good at public relations. I have noticed that nothing is ever his fault.

Essendon have the Bulldogs next week, that will hopefully be very entertaining.

I agree - I don't believe Scott is a decent coach.

No game plan tonight that I could discern.

I do believe that their list management, and in particular Didoro's choices, has been a major factor in their stagnation.

If the Bulldogs bring their best they will obliterate Essendon. The Bombers don't have any game-breakers

Mind you, whether the Demons can beat Essendon in gather round remains to be seen. We failed to show up in our last 2 encounters against the Bombers (in gather round)

Their list is not very good.

Why do so many people support Essendon? ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

In economics it is called the Sunk Costs Fallacy.

Does very strange things to people.

Anyway -

Nice of Tristan Xerri to have a 'just okay' game and then get himself surely suspended, all in tribute to Max Gawn's 250. After a very good game against Port and then monstering West Coast he was probably the chief rival for the All-Australian ruck spot.

The contenders seem to be quickly sorting themselves from the pack, with Witts, English, Jackson and Grundy the ones to watch.

It'll be a fun thing to monitor for the season. We all want Gawn to get the 'outright greatest ever' plaque for his locker, though in keeping with his attitude of course we shouldn't fixate on it.

I would even find some joy if it was Gawn AA ruck with Jackson named as the second ruck/forward.

Considering their list at the time, he managed to keep North more than competitive - they were in the finals or thereabouts for most of his time there.

Not just in economics.

Why wasnโ€™t Spargo playing?

Has not played a seniors game this season. Is not on their injury list. Looks like spare parts will be his lot. I am a little dirty on him. Jumped ship when we were struggling to go to the club he supported.

From memory, Scott got north into prelims in 2014-15 and they played finals 2016 I think also? Itโ€™s not a flag but itโ€™s also not a fluke.

Bombers issues are deeeeeeeeep. They basically have no on or off field leadership, the leadership they do have in Merrett and McGrath have always played in poor Essendon teams, Merrett is a poor leader, McGrath isnโ€™t a great player, their recruiting is stuffed, their development is stuffed, theyโ€™ve been run like an Olโ€™ boys club for decades and thereโ€™s the factional hangover from the drugs saga that Walsh is apparently trying to bridge.

Iโ€™m not saying Scott is an awesome coach, but thereโ€™s only so much he can work with. That club is stuffed.

Not sure. They have some decent players and some kids coming through. You kind of get it with clubs like North or WCE, but Essendon are a bit of an enigma to me, I don't quite get why it's still this bad.
