And we have every right to ask him where this performance was in the last 4 years? I get he had the injury and all but the performance was his most highly rated one for his entire career.

Also begs the question what else was holding him back at the Dees? Was he complacent/ too comfortable?

His kicking was magnitudes improved last night and in dewy conditions too. Again where was this over his entire career?

All of this is caveated with last night opposition being useless but even so, it was a performance that I have not seen from Trac aside from the 39 touches in the GF.

Yep this is what I'm annoyed about.

He said in an interview he's worked on his kicking every single day over the offseason.

Mate, you had 10 years to do it. Why now? I honestly think the club was so beholden to these guys who took us to the promised land that they were totally beyond reproach.

Total comfort, total complacency.

To top it off, Oliver's now also been BOG and given the most articulate and insightful interview I've seen him give ever.

This actually vindicates King to be honest, but far out it is frustrating

So who is responsible for this? Goody? Richo? One is gone and the other is on his last year, which I cannot see us renewing. What about the board?

It’s a sample of 1 game and I think they’ll play above themselves to give us the FU so I’m still a bit suspect… time will tell.

But I do accept that their performances would not improve at our club.

I do not warm to Sam Mitchell. Smug. That is all

Looking forward to watching Coleman for Brissy. Was on track to being a star before the injuries

Goodwin was fine with the long dump kicks. Happened for years, every single week.

I think it's Goodwin. Richo not faultless either, and I would have preferred he left at the same time. But he ultimately defers to the coach.

Goodwin set the strategy, standards and was the voice instructing and guiding the team in critical moments. Whatever he allowed to fester is on him.

It's a little obvious in hindsight - certainly he was able to build a high performance culture (or perhaps sustain what was built by predecessors...)...but he wasn't of the humility and mentality to prevent a culture of complacency creeping in. Very different to the likes of Fagan (they have other cultural problems, but are not complacent).

The Maggots in the Media have sucked all the MFCSS losers on the DL right in proper.

If we come out and play like those two Premiership Players in our game, it will be simple. We win easy and shut the maggots in the Media up

Goodwin should have been moved on at the end of 2023. Instead he was given a contract extension in August

That is the main reason we are where we are.

Certain Players we bought in, made the situation worse. It was party town

11 academy and priority picks in Suns team

Anderson (AFL priority assistance pick)

Suns Academy- B Uwland, Z Uwland, Davies, Graham, Read, Lombard

Priority zone pick - Farrar, Jeffrey

Priority VFL pick - Clohesy , Sam Collins (special assistance package VFL)

Plus … Jake Rogers was best on ground in Suns VFL practice match … plus Jed Walter …. Plus Dylan Patterson top 5 draftee plus Addinsall plus Murray.

That’s a bonanza of AFL generated bias that is delivering a very powerful squad.

Throw in the high draft picks of Miller, Rowell, Humphrey, King & Andrew (stolen from the Dees)

AFL Football Operations announce their latest north of the border extravaganza.

Andrew Lloyd Dillon’s

Surfers Paradise Paupers to Prince of the Suns

I am unsure if any team did any defence training over the preseason. The free play and goals kicked so far this weekend is insane.

The absurd stand rule, or at least the overzealous enforcement of it as well as the overreach penalty of 50 meters is a blight on the game.

One step over the mark , OK for some clubs like Brissy, but not OK against them. Maggot favouritism again

Did anyone else pick up the commentary calling the Gaints the Suns at least 4 times in a row

Think it was that ex Hawthorn bloke who put in 3 seasons with us to up his Superannuation

He sounded hung over

Still getting used to no footy on FTA on a Saturday

it’s [censored]

  • NON-MFC: Round 02

The compromised AFL fixture will get another test this week with the first lot of teams getting a bye after only two matches. Despite this Round 2 starts off with two cracking games as the Hawks host the Swans at the G on Thursday Night and then on Friday Night the Crows host the Bulldogs at Adelaide Oval. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

The dominant storyline coming out of Round One for Sunday’s clash at Optus Stadium centres on the influence of the big men. The spotlight naturally falls on two elite ruckmen who, five years ago, shared the stage in Melbourne’s memorable premiership triumph.

  • THE STATS FILES: St. Kilda

As part of the effort to trim the runtime of the regular podcast, we’ve been looking at which segments could be reshaped without losing what makes them valuable. One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

After a stunning victory over the Saints in the first round of the Season the Demons head over to Perth to take on the Dockers who choked in their first match against the Cats. Who comes in and who goes out?

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.

  • POSTGAME: St. Kilda

Never in doubt!!! In Steven King’s first game at the helm of the Melbourne Football Club, the Dees outlasted Saints in a wild, momentum-swinging thriller at the MCG, running out 13-point winners.
