Sorry Andy, may have missed this, but did Max actually do a hammy?

Hopefully not a sign of things to come, this is one season we can’t afford to lose players if we want to be somewhat competitive

To be fair, a lot of that is players recovering from old injuries or conservatively managing 'hamstring awareness' in Gawn's case.

Bowey is a terrible blow but we've all seen what he can do when coming into the team late in the season.

Any mention of concussion, especially for a young player, makes my skin crawl but on the other hand just a few seasons ago a knock like that would barely have been mentioned and he'd be back at it with only marginal precaution. It's a bit like [censored] statistics going up dramatically when they actually get reported properly - there wasn't an increase, it is just that we are noticing them now and responding.

Touch wood and wash your mouth out, but we shouldn't be crying about our injury list at this stage.

I'll be watching intently to be reassured that the new regime embraces the long-term view of injury management. Not just conservative timelines - I'll echo other people's comments on the training thread in saying I'd be more than happy to see players doing their own 'in-season pre-season' to build up fitness before being returned to the side from long layoffs.

He came off very early in the Match SIM on Friday and was running short 150m blocks back and forth for awhile and did not return to the training track. Today it was reported that he was amongst the rehab group with Ghosty reporting that it was just a hammy niggle. For the moment I will assume that he is being managed as a precaution.

Taylor is a lock for round 1 now once he stays fit

No Bowey (plus McVee) is far from ideal. This injury could derail most of the season as he'll have to do a mini-preseason when he gets over the injury

Big opportunity for Taylor

We’re going to miss Bowey as he was our best defender last year and looked set to thrive with our new gameplan, but it’s a good opportunity for others to step up and cement a place even once he’s back

We only have 2 of our best 23 out long term in Bowey and probably Viney, the rest are coming back from injury or only a month out max. What's Melksham's injury?

I wouldn't rush to the conclusion that Xavier Lindsay is a ready-made replacement for Bowser. For a start, Jake is 175cms, Taylor is listed as 192cms. Andy Moniz Wakefield is closer to the mark for mine.

Yeah of course, if his knee’s all goods

Sorry to be the bearer of this very bad news but poor Bowser has another injury.

This one more dramatic than his shoulder.

It's a worry.

Melbourne young gun Jake Bowey ruled out for six months in shattering blow | 7NEWS https://share.google/uHPJXZk2Fl8eIL9z0

Sorry guys I just checked and this has been mentioned on the main injury list.

He hasn't done both feet.

I was hoping to see him play in the midfield or the fwd line now and then.

As a mid, he would get a few head, high tackle frees.

oh no. one of our best ball users and would have been a big part of Kings new game plan. just rubbish news

those lisfranc injuries are very nasty as well

wishing him a full recovery and looking forward to seeing him in the second part of the season

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

It’s late February. Two teams widely predicted to finish near the foot of the AFL table in 2026 face off against each other in sweltering 30-degree heat deep in outer suburbia in a match simulation with fresh new faces and uneven team numbers. There are no nearby sheep stations on offer; the result promises nothing more than bragging rights for the winner. Nevertheless, the loser appears hopelessly adrift, whereas the other seems to have found its footing after a couple of years of struggle – perhaps a hint at bigger things to come?
