i wonder if this match could be on saturday to line up with origin and our other matches

As a rule, the club generally excels at organising these events at annoying or inopportune times for fans/spectators.

Surely with the social/media team upping their game in off season we should get some good content from today. Would love for it to be streamed or a "mini Kayo" version post match!

you’d hope so… a 20 minute highlight package would do me until our next praccy

Don't get me started on the very family and work friendly time of 4:10pm Friday afternoon for both of our practice matches (admittedly the second practice game was the AFL's call)

I reckon today will be a solid match sim with training mixed in. Next Friday will be more of a full scale intra club game.

Melbourne match sim notes:

- Serious concerns with Jack Viney. Walked a few laps with Tom Campbell (who’s still in a neck brace) before sitting on the bench and putting sunnies on. Achilles injury is worse than first thought. Demons injury report on Jan 14 said “We expect him to return to full training in the next few weeks.” Almost a month on and he hasn’t progressed. He isn’t playing any time soon. Former captain still showing his love and passion for the club, helping coach from the sidelines and at quarter time.

- Steven May still on leave from Dees.

- Kysaiah and Latrelle Pickett absent, the pair are in Alice Springs for a marketing campaign with Northern Territory Tourism.

- Changkuoth Jiath didn’t take part in match sim and instead completed a running session. As did Jake Melksham, Christian Salem, Harrison Petty and Shane McAdam.

1st QTR: The Dees have stacked the defence and forward line for team blue, but are keeping it reasonably even in the midfield. Tom McDonald played in deep defence with Jake Lever on team blue. Daniel Turner down back also. Harvey Langford (spent time on wing), Jai Culley, Ed Langdon, Brody Mihocek and Jacob Van Rooyen other names on Blue. Team White includes, Max Gawn, Jack Steele and Trent Rivers.

QTR TIME: Blue: 5.4.34 to White 2.1.13

No they don’t but that’s where I go when I hear that.

With the description it could be fractured collarbone, which is usually only a couple of weeks out if a simple fracture🤞🏼

Football supporters idea of good news is different to most people’s. 😳

Don’t worry I’m praying it’s a collarbone, I had one Round 1 ‘73 country football, painful but not totally debilitating back I six weeks.😁

Awful to hear. His only issue is his body doesn't allow him to stay out on the park. Let's hope it's not serious, or his career will be in jeopardy and we lose another weapon in the midfield already going through change.

Ffs not culley 😢😢😢😢

Anyone in this thread down at Casey?

And the poor guy was just hitting career best form. 😠

Yep I think that’s why it’s more annoying / frustrating/ upsetting. Video of him training were getting us all excited and now this has happened to him, really feel for him but let’s hope it’s not bad 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

Oh well, scrap Culley off the round 1 list.

Hopefully it's not a shoulder reco and he'll be available for selection in April or May.

We don't appear to be having a good pre season from an injury and rehab point of view.

Bugger

Confirmed by Troy Chaplin it's a broken arm, will have a plate put in and should only miss a couple of weeks.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
