I see us getting pick 6&7 for Trac after Flanders has picked Saints and we will give some 2nd and 3rd rounders back to help with their points.

Depressing but probably the truth.

If it's going to be picks only, it'll be something like 7 this year and next year's first, maybe plus something else.

Take a throw at the stumps with Humphrey, but I doubt he makes the jump given King has only just got his feet under the table, and we're hardly projecting stability right now.

6 & 13 for Tracca pls

If we do a deal for picks I’d like to see us swap our 2027 first rounder for their 2026 first as part of the deal. Load up before Tassie comes in.

Lamb and King will have egg all over their faces if we sell our top mids for a couple of mid first Rd picks. That goes against all they have said we are doing.

Success breeds success. The more successful you are the more likely you are to attract quality players. Our aim is to play finals next year. King has to implement a game plan that challenges good teams. I think good coach far outweighs good players. Hawthorn is a prime example of this.

Usually success breeds success, except for us post 21, haha ***starts sobbing uncontrollably whilst I eat my chicken roll***

And I completely agree with you re: having a very good coach is more important than having very good players. Champion team vs a team of champions etc. But Hawks did bring in good players which strengthened them in Barass/Ginnivan/Battle.

And I’m personally not getting too excited/expecting to play finals next year. Want to give King time to settle in and properly set up his own list that he can utilise which could be a few seasons. But that’s just me.

What’s depressing - 2 top 10 picks

In a very weak draft...its just hard to get excited.

I agree. Top 20 of this draft is more than solid. Robey, Lindsay, CDT, Dean, Dovaston, Marsh and Schubert will all be great players.

The draft isn’t that weak

If we nap Sully Robey with one of those picks then I'll be an incredibly happy man.

Absolute jet

Maybe let her know that when she is older she might want to fondly remember a player that was a Demon Champion.

I had to reassure her that we were not going to trade max. She was worried we'd trade max or he'd leave

The top end of the draft has a handful of tough, capable ball users

We know these young players can make an instant impact as well

Missing out on Flanders is disappointing but Humphrey is a fantasy, more than likely we will receive 6 and 13

I know its a bit boring but if we get 2 first rounders for Trac and take a couple of talented kids in the draft like we have done the last two years it's still a fine result

Completely agree, trac does not want to play at Melbourne, we need players who want to be Melbourne people - bleed red and blue, alot can be said about drafting new kids, am enthusiastic and culture building injection. We are not in the premiership window anymore, we have the chance to start fresh with a nice reset. If we cannot land bailey humphries, then I am more than happy with some early draft picks, the way trac, may and clarry carried on the last couple of years is culture killing, and would be in any work place. These guys are Melbourne champions and always will be, but the minute they choose not be a Melbourne person and don't want to wear the red and blue then don't let the door hit you on the way out, they aren't the first champions to play for the Melbourne footy club and they won't be the last. Bring kids in that will bleed the red and blue, like the rest of us do.

Bring in Kids who win 3 games in two years and leave because we are terrible. That worked wonderfully under Neeld

By the sounds of every single past player and expert, the draft is the worst they have seen in decades, and coaches don’t want to use the picks at all.

So let’s get players.

Completely agree we need quality players before draft picks but that will most likely prove difficult as we are probably not currently viewed positively I would suggest.

Just saying that the draft is not a complete write off if we are forced down this path though first round is where we would need to be.

Of course there is always the option of keeping Trac (and Oliver I guess) but not sure this is plausible now or what the Club would want.

I’m asking this as I genuinely don’t know myself, but how is a weak draft ‘measured’ (for lack of a better word)? Don’t each draft year only play against others in the same year for example?

I don’t know if I’m asking the question properly.

Edit: for example: is it purely just low skilled players? Is it a draft with the ‘wrong’ kinds of players for the modern game?

Good question. I’m not sure and only really reiterating what I’ve read on here.

Suns won't trade us picks 6 and 7. They need one of them for academy kids.

So as has been said, it's Humphrey and 6 or 7, or Trac stays.

You cannot compare the Neeld era to the current one, mark neeld was a terrible club decision which followed another in Dean Bailey, but if you want comparisons in Neelds draft years as coach we drafted Jesse Hogan and Jack Viney, in 2011 and 2012 respectively, and Dean Bailey's era gave us Max Gawn, Tmac and Nev Jetta coming on the back off 24 wins in 5 and a half years between the 2 darkest coaching times in Melbourne's history, but if King can draft in 5 players of the above qualities then I'd say we would be sitting not too bad.

Our list does not need a full rebuild, a somewhat reset yes. But losing the 3 players in question is not the end of the road, as I said they aren't the first and won't be the last champions.

Yeah I’ve done the same, only just occurred to me that I don’t understand how/why it’s assessed as weak beyond ‘it’s just not very good’.

Trac might have to come back to us. I think he can be reintegrated. He might be high maintenance, but he is professional.

My worry is his missus. as has been discussed already she doesn't want to be in Melbourne for family reasons so we might have to settle for picks.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.
