Think we will be able to save face, by publicly saying that King was always clear that it is a fresh start and would love to be apart of it. Whether that is good for the locked room is another question

How so? I havent found anything that suggest otherwise. At the end of the day its Lamb's job to draft up a contract and yes get the final tick of approval from the board with any list management decisions.

Lamb still has a massive input into this and as it stands he got this one complete wrong. Whether it was panic station from the Roos offer or not, it was completely unnecessary to offer him such a long contract at his age.

Taylor has done an exceptional job bringing in some of the talent. Langford and Lindsay for instsnce are easily 10+ year players for this footy club. Give us some more early picks for Petracca and I think he will cook well again.

Lamb on the other has butchered some of the list management decisions over the past couple of years.

The long list of names i provided have been at the expense of Lamby. Its a long list of genuine list cloggers which has neglected in us bringing in young talent instead.

I would love to see Steven King start fresh with a whole new list manager beside him.

Lamb also facilitate the trades to be able to draft Lindsay, so you should be congratulating him

Gold Coast Suns list manager Craig Cameron was always a straight shooter when he spoke to us at Demonland back in the day when he was in charge of recruiting at the Melbourne Football Club. He even posted under the handle of @cac1963 or something of that nature. This is what he said yesterday about Bailey Humphrey who is under contract to the his club:

“The thing about having a player contracted is that sort of sits with the club as to make a decision and with Bailey, he is just a no.”

Very true … but as long as his club is pursuing Melbourne superstar, premiership player and Norm Smith Medallist, Christian Petracca, it might be worth noting that, like Humphrey, he is also a contracted player and that Cameron’s counterpart at Melbourne is also very much able to utter the word “no”.

I think WJ is referring to the deals that might be offered rather than the decision to trade Trac overall.

We're clearly very happy to move Trac on, but as WJ points out, we've got the whip hand and can say no, so while the Suns might not like to trade someone like Bailey Humphrey, they might have to if they wanna get the deal done.

I’m not defending the players but be careful what we wish for, losing 2 decorated experience 200 game players under 30 will impact the team, would have been good to see how they may performed under King…

Keeping Petracca and Oliver is the real gamble, not trading them. They’ve become the anchors of a midfield that’s predictable, slow, and reliant on reputation rather than output. Three years of the same mix has delivered nothing but regression, so why would another spin of the wheel be different under King or anyone else? Clinging to “200-game stars” is a security blanket—when in reality, those games don’t mean much if they come with baggage, ego, and bodies that no longer play at the level they once did. Trading them isn’t waving the white flag; it’s ripping off the bandaid and banking their value before it evaporates. Clubs move forward by being ruthless, not sentimental—and right now, Melbourne’s bigger risk is staying loyal to names that keep the side stuck in neutral.

Landing Humphrey or getting 2 decent first-round picks for Tracc will be a huge win.

I disagree to an extent, especially with Trac. We've been down this path before with Bailey and Neeld. With the backing of the club, they cleaned out the experienced players, and we were left with high draftees who couldn't fend for themselves. We were in the doldrums for over a decade.

The Pies were in a worse position to us when Buckley was sacked. They had cap issues which resulted in a firesale of players, but they kept the experienced players like Sidebottom and Pendelbury, who were said to be on the decline. With a new coach, they rebounded quickly.

We were competitive against some of the better sides this year, with a mix of senior players and some youth. I would like to see how it goes with a new game plan, and the young players gaining more experience.

If we lose Trac, Clarry and May, and don't top up with quality, I see us as a bottom 4 team.

Does 6 and 7 get it done?
