The market will dictate

hopefully a couple of clubs show interest to get a bidding contest going

the temptation of getting elite Clarry would be tempting for the likes of GWS. If he can get back to anything like his best then pick 12 for example will be a steal

Big if of course. Let's see what eventuates but hopefully we get a 1st rather than a 2nd rounder for him.

The market is actually only the two negotiating clubs.

I'll preface this with the notion I've always enjoyed seeing Clarry play. He's exciting, inventive, a bit of a larrikin and I think has loved his time in the Red and Blue. Bit of a ratbag but a genuine champion of the game and our club.

But....

Actions often speak loudest and I am bitterly disappointed that when presented with a new vision, a new challenge, one that doesn't appear to have aligned with his view he spits his chips ???

I have no real idea of what went on or was said in that meeting with King but it strikes me as very odd that he can find himself quite happily taking a 3 hour crew with Giants Skipper , Gilligan et al at all but 5 mins notice.

The lad is entitled to his life as are any but I truly find this reaction , well, curious.

Im inclined to two takeaways. It is clearly evident Goodwin mollycoddled his list. That worked for a while and then magnificently didn't. King has NO intention of going down this path. Thank God for that.

Conversely a lot of our list were used to inordinate amount of hand holding and pandering to 'their wants' .. Even Max is not exempt as Brodie says hi .

This it seems is not how things are to go going forward and this has not apparently sat well with some of the 'precious' ones.

I'll be disappointed not to see that ginger mop wearing 13 carving up the game ( for is ) but I'm far more disappointed he cracked the sads .

Tbh that leaves a sour taste...

although if i was him, they are probably the best club for him. he'll be out of the spotlight up there playing for a finals team. they have a history of rehabilitating players as well Jesse Hogan being a notable example.

I’m all aboard the king train.

It’s a professional environment, not a social group like Goodwin ran it. We work hard and get said rewards afterwards. We play with our mates and push each other to be the best players we can be.

We don’t go drinking with our coaching group, they are there for guidance not social activities. We need to keep that separation imo.

No favourites, you play on merit or you can eff off

This post and Harvey’s’ below are spot on. King (and Guerra) are impressing a lot thus far.

I think the reality is in the middle of this.

I don’t see this as a strict salary dump as you’re suggesting and the trade return probably depends on how much we pay of his salary.

for example, If we pay nothing they get him for pick 156 and we’re just happy to have the money off the books.

If we are paying 700k a year for 5 years we are in salary dump territory, if that’s the case I suspect we do ask for a fringe player or a second round pick to help save face as much as anything else

All reports pretty much stating we will be happy to pay 700k from the remaining of his salary.

42 minutes ago, Redleg said:

I hope not.

2nd round and nothing else imo would see us paying very little of his contract.

If we are paying a chunk of his salary we are looking at 12.

Anyway we will know soon enough.

Paying a chunk of his salary doesn't mean you you're automatically entitled to an early pick.. at the end of the day we are the ones pushing him out the door to look at other opportunities.

And as much as they wont say it publicly, it is also a salary dump which makes complete sense now with our chase on Humphrey and Flanders.

Exactly this.

There were talks of tigers wanting to split pick 3

If we got Oliver for pick 13 which is a BIG stretch I understand that but let’s play as if we did.

Can we send pick 13 with Trac

Melbourne

out Oliver (gws) pick 13 and Trac (GCS)

In Humphrey Flanders (do we ask for another pick?)

GCS

Out Humphrey Flanders(Melbourne) pick 13 (rich)pick 6(rich)

In Trac and pick 3

Richmond

Out pick 3

In pick 6 and 13

I have zero idea and I know I’m not good at this but hey I’m having a crack 😂

Just on another note, we gave the Swans their 2nd and 3rd in their B & F.

Its bold.. dont mind it at all actually.

I would even look at throwing pick 23 as a cheeky sweetener considering they'll want picks for the academy.

Pick 23 is now pick 26.. it’s getting pushed back real quick 😆

No...was laughing with you not at.

I , like you am not particularly good at such contrivances as are picks and all that jazz.

I reckon you've made a good case... but I'm not a qualified to judge.

My observations over years is very little of this goes to anyone's plans.

Red alluded to something elsewhere.. it has all to do with perceived value, particular needs , the machinations of a closed market and priorities as understood by the involved teams.

Id be quite happy with your scenario

I did see that 'Red'

I am happy for James Jordon. Incompetent of Simon Goodwin in his belief of playing the same solider each and every week without even a thought of changing it up cost us the likes of Bedford and Jordon who have gone on to become quality players for their respective clubs.

I am glad King is cleaning the place up now.

Me too. Always rated him higher as a player and thought he was more committed to our club through his journey.

If this has been done without any firm commitment from incoming players then it's a big red mark for the new regime for mine. We're looking at bottom 4 for 5+ years now...extraordinary just 4 years out from a flag with a young list.

The fact that info had leaked before the meeting yesterday was an abomination. If the suggestion of us being willing to pay up to 700 of his wage is true then I have no words (surely you'd want to make sure if something might leak you'd put out a low number to start with???). Can you imagine him playing in preliminary finals and grand finals for Geel or Collingwood while we are helping them to the tune of 700k. Far out. I'd rather King have been prepared to back himself to get him back to his best than stomach that (although I guess its possible that behind the scenes there may be circumstances existing that mean removing him from the playing group is the only way we can really move forward).

I do find it odd that the list manager who did the deal is also sitting in these meetings advising people that they can't be guaranteed senior footy a couple of years into the agreement. It's time to move on from that regime...it has failed miserably and is leading us from one calamity to another.

exactly both Oliver and Petraccas' deals were list killers and completely overreactive tp perceived poaching

the people who were responsible shouldn't play a part in this new group

Oh phew 🥲😆

Yeah I’m by no means good at trading suggestions but hey, it’s fun!

I feel like it pick 3 is a good deal for GCS because of points and Richmond would then have pick 2, 6 and 13 (until f/s and academies come in)

They’d inject 3 good youths which would be appealing

Goodwin allowed the poor culture to set in & needed to nip Oliver and rest in the butt, giving him senior games after missing pre season set the rot in and why we lost Petracca, Initially thinking King should be trying to get Oliver back to his best but he’s sending a message to him your on huge $$$ so lift your game or there is the door, that’s culture setting!

I shouldn't be on this site at all. It makes me sick in my stomach to think of Clarrie playing against us - and I am CERTAIN that next year (unless the present mess wrecks his mental health and who should blame him if it did?) he will be a champion again - but the thought that we might be PAYING him to do it is beyond my comprehension. Steven King has got a lot of work to do for me to forgive him or back him. He got the job saying that CP5 and Clarrie were in our best team. So much for honesty and transparency.

d

On one hand you’re saying King said Trac and Claz were best 22 next year

On the other hand, you’re saying (without any real basis) that king has pushed them out of the club

And because of that he’s not being honest and transparent?

I can’t tell which way you’re going with it because all of those can’t be true at the same time

1 hour ago, Harves said:

Yes it is the polite way of doing it I guess but we’d be happy to keep him

That's not the way I read it. King wants him out. Lets skip the robust ,polite and honest BULLSHEET Tim Lamb speaks of, speaking of Tim Lamb, can this inept list manager also be shown the door!?

1 hour ago, Harves said:

No one is forcing him out. We told him he won’t be playing full midfield minutes and he’s more than welcome to exercise his right to a trade if he wants to.

No one really believes this. We are offering to pay more than 50% of his contract to see the back of him. We are salary dumping to make a big play at Flanders and Humphrey.

Tell ya what list managers.
Maybe I can deal with Oliver leaving and I'll wish him the best.

But if you send him to Collingwood I will SPEW UP! and hate what you've done forever.

Well we know who fell out of bed on the wrong side today.

Clarry is also my favourite Dee and I am not thrilled, but do we honestly believe King just doesn’t like bad hairstyles and wants a great of the club gone.

There must be reasons for this and we don’t know what King and the FD know, so let’s trust them at this stage, as they try to make us better.

Before we sack TL, can we see how we end up and then we can evaluate our situation a little more accurately.

Btw, I don’t think TL hates bad hairstyles that much either and I also don’t think he hates Tracc’s recipes enough to trade him.

Traccc is clearly being traded because he wants to go.

Lets stay on the bus, enjoy the scenery and hope we like the destination.

Well the good news is both our stars are going to small, new interstate clubs, with few members and small crowds.

Lamb has been useless irrespective of the outcomes of this trade period.

Landing Flanders, Humphrey, Mihocek and whomever won't change that.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
