After I had to witness Messi leave FC Barcelona nothing surprises me anymore.

Professional sports are a business first and foremost, love the club.

He went to PSG from memory.

It was during COVID though. FCB couldn't afford his huge salary (and others I guess).

I think this is one i posted about and i would love to see happen, i think it makes a lot of sense, we're losing Trac and Clarry from the midfield, and if the Saints are pushing him out and might even contribute financially it feels like a really good fit.

Would counter act some of that clarry money at least.

Have we shown interest in Steele?

We haven't (in a 'public' sense) and there's nothing to link us to him, but it was reported that we are in the market for midfield depth. Apologies, I can't recall where this was reported, it may have been in the Lamb trade update or via media reporting.

One of the things that I found about Steele when searching for any mentions of a connection to the Dees was that he is not particularly quick or a good kick so he would be the perfect replacement. 😜

Hahahah in some ways he's Clayton Oliver without the baggage! haha

I would only do it if the Saints were chipping in some of his wage and he's just there to help develop the young guys and fix the cultural stuff

has to be on our terms, but i do worry our midfield is a tiny bit thin without Trac and Oliver.

He had taken a pay cut but the La Liga officials made it almost impossible for FCB to include him in the squad.

My point being that on that day I understood club is paramount, not the players.

Sad thing to say but loyalty is very rare these days.

Just saw Clarry on 7 News touring the GWS facilities was asked about meeting with Collingwood soon & what he likes about them, he said They’re better than Melbourne’

He can [censored] off as far as I’m concerned, everything we’ve done for him!!

He’s just an ignorant ungrateful immature joke now & will fit in well with Collingwood

You sound just like Clarry, but with added expletives 🤣

I have thoroughly searched social media and have not seen our name linked with Steele at all.

Could see Steele happening late in the piece to another Victorian team (last day mayhem) This may be us if both Petracca and Oliver leave. Could also see Essendon going for him too, or he stays at the Saints which is most likely.

There’s a part of me that would love to see Clarry not traded and, having made his comments for the AFL world to see and hear, be made to stew in his own juices at the club.

This will wind up being @ pick in the 70s we don't even use and is paying $700,000 a year for the next 5 years for him to play at another club.

The ultimate stuff up unfolding here.

Last 4 Premiers

US - Oliver May

Cats - Stengle, Smith, Bruhn

Collingwood - Thug, DeGoey, get the idea

Brisbane - Zorko, Robinson

There’s a difference in opposition supporters thinking you’re a DH and the inner circle or footy department having to deal with issues you create off field with poor behaviour.

So think Maynard and Zorko are off the mark despite them rattling opposition feathers. Mitch Robinson hasn’t been at Brisbane for years and neither Bruhn nor Smith were at the Cats in 2022, which potentially proves having DH causing issues off field impacts on field

Yep. I think the difference is that having those players makes your club more brittle, less resilient.

Everything is fine when you're winning at every club. When you hit a bit of a bump in the road then some clubs can deal with it whilst others can't and I think that is a lot to do with the internal trust and faith that the team/club has with each other. If something goes wrong but you believe in your team mates to do the right thing then you just keep your nose to the grindstone and get through it. If you've got some problems bubbling away under the surface when something goes wrong, that's when those issues pop up as a reason for the problems and the internal divisions happen.

Bailey Smith's issues started being an issue before and after the GF that they lost. Those issues are now sitting just below the surface and, if anything goes wrong in the future, team mates are going to link Smith's behaviour and the GF loss pretty closely.

I agree that Maynard and Zorko are very different in terms of their effects on team culture.

It’s a sad time but a necessary time, which is probably at 12-24 months too late.

Whilst I understand this is an emotional game and we’re all invested with the club, there’s some poor posting in regards to Clarry and the club.

Clarry was the best mid I have seen in my 46 seasons supporting the club. Robbie Flower was a wing so I make the separation.

He’s won numerous B&Fs, AFLPA, AFL coaches awards and AA and he was a vital part in delivering my greatest moment and no doubt many other supporters greatest moment on 25/09/2021.

That can’t be taken away and I will always thank him for that.

He probably doesn’t want to hear it but the club needs to move him on and I understand the hurt from his side, however at some stage he needs to have a really good look at himself.

Standards dropped, poor culture festered and resentment grew within the playing group and Clarry was a big part of the last 2.

Goody may have felt he could control him, but he lost part of the playing group with his treatment towards Clarry and I think it clouded his judgement and impacted his coaching.

I applaud the new coach and CEO, they have all the information and evidence of the last 3 seasons and pre seasons.

I wish Clarry the best in his career but really hope he blossoms off field. His words were immature and without thought, but time heals wounds and the memories of what he did and achieved in the red and blue will stay forever.

He will and should be welcomed back at reunions.

No player is bigger than the club and the decision is for the best

What a shock, and employee that's just been terminated from his position isn't complimentary of his now former employer.

Might be time for a few DLers to take a breath and review their understanding of the DL terms of service and posting guidelines. Targetted harassment of players and how apparently useless they are isn't in the spirit of good forumship.

Clarry needs to look in the mirror and take responsibility for his off field actions!

Unfortunately he might have been a great footballer but is an immature young man!

If he didn’t take note of one of his close mates getting a 4 year holiday not sure what will get him to change.

Feels tragic to see him go, but seems like there is no other choice.

Will always be seen as big part of ending Demons premiership drought, so I’m forever grateful of his contribution!

We didn't push him out. The meeting was arranged the day before to be in his manager's office. Clarry's role was the agenda. The Manger would have given Clarry a heads up on what could happen with a new coach/CEO etc.

He was happy to stay on his terms, in his chosen role because he wasn't held accountable at mfc and most of those that had protected him (Green, Gawn, Richardson) are still at the club to somewhat cushion the impact of a new coach.

He has had 2 years to repay the faith,

His off field behaviour was well know to the club when he signed his mega contract in mid 2022.

Sadly, 'leopards don't change their spots' applies.

Push him out we certainly did. New broom sweeps in and states, 'You are our best midfielder, but we are moving you to an untried role. Take or leave it!' It was just a cowardly way of kicking him out knowing that this plan would not be acceptable.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
