I’ll just leave this here for discussion about the worth of picks (and the excision of the Dees and Petracca)

You’re doing this for impressions, aren’t you DL?

Exactly.

Happens every year with the bigger trades.

Humphrey asking for a trade on Friday gives the media 2 days to dissect it and create 90 different click baits on the topic

And it brings the whole Trac Humphrey situation to a juicy climax next week

Otherwise this weekend is just "no movement at the station" which is very boring

Pickett, you're the greatest contrarian indicator I've ever seen on a web forum.

Thanks.

Sure picks are a risk but we have JT. He has a better strike rate that is better than most

In the article, Suns list boss Craig Cameron is still saying “we’re not trading Bailey Humphrey”, but the tone is noticeably less absolute than in the past. A few signs point to a softening stance:

  • Acknowledging reality of the market: Cameron admits this isn’t a “normal trade play out” and stresses that clubs need to “accept that’s what the landscape now is,” with players weighing up moves. That shows they’re preparing for the possibility.

  • Shift in language: Earlier, Humphrey was branded “untradeable.” Now Cameron is talking more about supporting him, making him a good footballer, and navigating awkward situations — that’s not the same as a hard “no.”

  • Two-way street message: Cameron even says, “if he comes back, we’ll be fine… if he doesn’t, we’ll work through that.” That’s effectively conceding the Suns will manage a trade outcome if Humphrey decides he wants Melbourne.

So while publicly they’re not officially putting him on the trade table, the Suns do appear to be leaving the door ajar — almost preparing members and fans for the reality that a deal with Melbourne could happen if Humphrey pushes.

I want to agree with your interpretation but am wondering if I read the same article?? These were just quotes from CC's radio interview yesterday. I can't see any mention of "if he comes back, we’ll be fine… if he doesn’t, we’ll work through that".

The two way street message and reference to shift in landscape (in my view) is just about him saying players and managers are increasingly thinking they can break contracts when they feel like it - But that's not how it works (because the club has to agree and GC aren't going to). GC will hold players to contracts and that's why it is a two way street - if you sign the contract, you honour the contract.

What am I missing?

Come Monday there is nothing to talk about near the water coolers.

Kids and Parents are still in holiday mode on the weekend.

Racing season has started the interest in trade speculation plateaus over the weekend.

Isn't all the high end talent key position players? How is his track record there?

From what little I’ve gathered about his character, he doesn’t strike me as the type to make something like this public unless he absolutely had to. If there was a meeting with the Dees today, I doubt he’d rush to make a statement straight away. He’d likely take some time to think things through and maybe go back to the Suns to plead his case before going public requesting a trade or committing to rocking up to training at the Suns on Day 1. I expect this will play out well into next week. Just my uninformed opinion.

This was the last draft I had anything to do with and I never understood the Ainsworth love. Seemed very vanilla for a top 10 pick.

So we’re waiting till Monday are we? I’m unleashing the triple GiF. I can’t wait till Monday, I simply don’t have it in me.

IF the Bailey Humphrey trade happens, it's not going to become clear until very late in the trade period because it'll be off the back of the Suns caving and not wanting to miss out on Trac. it'll be a Wednesday thing.

Until then, trust the process and enjoy the ride. We'll get a really good trade return no matter the makeup of it and Trac will be playing for the Suns.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
