That is a great initiative getting Rivers and Yze in the coaches box. A Mark Riley decision? Is he already thinking outside the box?

Fantastic news, especially in regards to Rivers.

It's important that we keep these players involved, even if their season is over on the field. It will keep them motivated and interested.

I'm liking Riley a lot so far, especially since he doesn't spin any [censored]. Just tells you how it is and gets on with it.

Interesting that he said the club will try to get Bryon to 200 games. He is a real goner come the end of the season, but I do hope he gets his 200 games.

P.S.- How highly does the club rate Rivers?! Getting a 22 year old to assist with the coaching... what a vote of confidence! :)

Agree with you Jaded.....

Riley seems to have taken the reins and has a good plan in place to get this club, in the very least, prepared for next season.

His ideas are uncomplicated and could prove to be very valuable, especially in regards to how they are handling the current injured players.

And it is a great and logical endorsement of Jared's maturity and footballing mind that he is assisting the coaching department.

I love his no crap attitude as well, and in this day and age of spin it is very refreshing :P !!!

In reality its quite common for a Club to have a long term injured top player in the coaches box as part of their development. i dont see it as any prominent vote of confidence just a continuation of the Club's development of a player.

Yze....planning for the afterlife?

I must admit after reading this I did see it possibly differnt to most. In that Riley is simply short of bums on seats and needed a hand and thee guys were available. I do rate Rivers but i cant quite see him being that good yet he is in a possition to offer too much , more the point he is still learning and being taught.

Again i just see it as the walking wounded helping out whilst Riley's hands are full.. I dont read too much into it. Just pragmatism. Nothing wrong with that !!

How many 22 year olds with less than 100 games experience get asked to lend a hand in the box?

I certainly don't remember any. The Judd, if he was injured, might get a gig. Who else?

You usually see senior players in there, and even that doesn't happen often.

Personally I think it's great. He'll learn much more than if he just walked laps for the rest of the year.

I dont think age has got anything to do with it.

I think it is a good developemental step for him.

Agreed.

I think it makes sense considering Rivers is one of our leading backman.

I think it can help his game in all sorts of ways.

Brock was in the box earlier this year!

Notwithstanding this, I wouldn't expect to see either (Yze & Rivers) in the coaching box....more like setting out the witches hats.

I could see Rivers being of enormous benefit to say Frawley with reading the play, positioning, when to leave your man etc etc. Great idea!

I would have thought it would be a good learning exercise for Brock to see things from the other side. As someone put it....as part of his foot education & development. Nothing more.

The situation seems to have positives both ways......

A player in the box, or helping in training may be able to give a different perspective, or see something different, to that of the coach.

While having that player in the box, or helping at training can only be useful to his maturation as a footballer, at least from the mental aspect of things.

And since Rivers is our leading defensive player this hopefully will benefit him (and it is a good endorsement), and the club in the long run.

So it can, and with luck will, be a win-win situation :) !!!

I think that given by the article he might be thinking inside the box. ;)

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
