I remember reading something about him growing up with an alcoholic step father father who use to do some crazy [censored] to his mum which he was exposed to as a child.

His real father walked out on the family when he was only a toddler.

I dont think he had the greatest of up bringing to be fair.

Im reminded of David Schwartz. When he was about 8 he witnessed his father's murder. He ended up an eleven out of ten problem gambler. Thankfully he ended up working his way out of that (which probably was connected to his childhood trauma.) Us older fans remember how amazing he was late 94. He was mercurial in our two winning finals and looked to just about overtake Carey as the best in the league. Unfortunately after that he needed knee reconstructions which dulled his game. His sister was a netballer whose knees were also a problem so I guess they had some unlucky genes. If Schwartz had rivalled Carey over the rest of the 90s we quite feasibly could have won a flag, such as in 1998, when we were so close.

I had the immense pleasure of meeting our new coach this morning at Gosch’s during the W training session. Chunk, Chappy, Selwyn and Richo were also there. Richo said I should come over to meet Kingy, which I did.

Kingy said they were at AAMI and decided to wander over to support the girls. He said today is the first of three days of strategy meetings. He said things are going well (re the meetings) and everyone’s on the same page with the same goals. He’s a very nice person.

And did he do this when he met you? 😁 (Seriously, i love how devoted some fans are, including you.)

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Brisbane

Forget the haunting of Round 11 — we’ve got this. Melbourne returns to its inner-city fortress for its milestone 100th AFLW match, carrying a formidable 10–2 record at IKON Stadium. Brisbane’s record at the venue is more balanced: 4 wins, 4 losses and a draw.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Geelong

It’s been a season of grit, growth, and glimpses of brilliance—mixed with a few tough interstate lessons. Now, with finals looming, the Dees head to Kardinia Park for one last tune-up before the real stuff begins.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
