A grade 24yos only move for 7 figures these days. $900k for Flanders is fine if he delivers 2024 form.

Yeah that's it though sometimes the market is a bit overinflated and the true cost is felt when you lose some of your soldiers due to the overpay to acquire the new talent.

I don't think Flanders is worth 900k a season but losing Tracc for only pics isn't ideal either.

I don’t want to lose Trac either Mousey, but if he goes I won’t be jumping up and down in anger. Trac’s contact, along with a few other contacts has hamstrung the club. Lamb has been poor in bringing in players from other clubs and managing player contracts. I don’t have a lot of trust in him and I hope he doesn’t panic and over pay for Flanders.

Heard through the grapevine that at a grand final luncheon yesterday Ross was insistent we’re still the front runners for Flanders

So if Ross is saying "we're", then he's referring to the Saints. And I somehow doubt that any coach would say that another club is a front runner when the player hasn't nominated a club.

I see a B Grade midfielder who has no ability to play forward. We already have enough of those (Oliver, Viney, Culley). We need players who can impact on the periphery. The game has changed and we need to go for high half forwards who can transition run.

Wow, Saints are really going all in on next season.

De Koning, Silvagni, Aleer, Ryan and Flanders.

This has the potential to blow up in their face and set them back a decade if they're not careful.

which would be so hilarious, and i'd have a tough time feeling sorry for them when its their own doing. Hopefully SOS never comes near our beautiful club

If it’s $900,000 a year, I’m probably going to fold my poker hand. That’s potentially extortion. He had a good 2024 and a satisfactory 2025. Only 3 votes in the Brownlow and I’d suggest he’d just barely struggle into the Suns top 10 in their B&F. He should see a better future for his midfield or forward mid mixture role at MFC. Suns will 3 young guns in their academy through this draft. Will Graham also due back from injury.

$900k for Flanders and people say Trac and Clarry are overpaid!

Beyond insane!

I hope Saints get him for pick 7 and the Suns trade us pick 6 and 7 for Trac (and all his salary). 🤞

Top 3 in the 2024 Gold Coast SUNS Club Champion Award:

  1. Sam Collins: (68 votes)

  2. Bodhi Uwland: (56 votes)

  3. Sam Flanders: (55 votes)

@Redleg ??? Suns B&F 2025 ??? I think he’d be Flanders behind Rowell, Anderson (of course), Witts, Collins, Miller, Humphrey, Long, King, Uwland, Rioli, Noble. So he’d struggle to get into their top 10 in the B&F in 2025.

Perryman reported to move for $900k x 6 years last year, it costs to acquire talent.

Free agents always get 20% overs because they don’t cost any picks.

To pay Flanders right at the top of the market and then also have to pay at the top of his trade value with picks makes it a non starter to me.

I’d happily spend the cash but not the picks that we don’t even have to offer!

Culley with his 3 game sample space and elite aerial game is an odd inclusion!

He told us he hasn't seen much of Culley without telling us.

Surely Tim Lamb's job is in jeopardy. Haven't traded in a gun since Langdon and Brown, and the contracts he has been dishing out to the geriatrics and injury-prone are stiffling the club. We need to get a fresh perspective and list-management ethos, just like we have done so far with the coach, CEO and in-coming president.

List management has gone down hill since Mahoney left.

This is an example of the gulf that exists between your average footy supporter's perception and the reality of what goes on inside an AFL club.

As opposed to having blind faith that people are competent to fulfill/excel in their roles despite evidence to the contrary?

Why odd? Culley looks to be a midfielder and would compete with Flanders for minutes. Do we expect Langford to go into the centre/midfield next season? Oliver and Vineyneed to play in the middle. Pickett should play in the middle as much as he can. I like Windsor in the middle as well.

We have enough average midfielders and don't need another one on big money.

6 plus 7 for Trac, 23 and the Spargo compo would be my angle. gives them points, we get a deal we can sell to the members and looks good and the reality is 6 and 7 get sucked up the moment the Suns get a bid which could easily come at pick 1 or 2.

Would be a great result for us to add another 2 young talented players to the mix

if we land Mihocek tho I belive the spargo compensation gets taken away

You seem to know about the draft a fair bit, I am pretty below knowledgeable on the workings of it.

Who do you reckon we land, lose (including draft picks)?

I’m curious to see what you think on our list post draft deadline.

I believe we will ask Collingwood to trade Mihocek to us to avoid losing the compo

I like Sullivan Robey, Xavier Taylor, Dyson Sharp, Josh Lindsay and Lochy Dovaston.

I'd be very happy to add 2 of that group to our list in exchange for Trac.

I think it says everything about the draft that Richmond want to trade pick 3 and 4 there is no talent there. It's 2 deep not including Uwland who's an academy pick. I don't want picks I want players.

2 deep who are they?

Duff-Tyler, Duursma, Sharpe and Marsh can all play. There’s others showing form late as happens every year and moving up the boards.

There may not be the depth of other drafts but there’s still good players in there and there will be late gems unearthed

Yeah true that would be ideal

  • AFLW REPORT: Gold Coast

The forecast said wind. The ladder said mismatch. The scoreboard said obliteration. Melbourne didn’t just beat Gold Coast — they dismantled them: 13.15 (93) to 0.6 (6). An 87-point obliteration, the Suns held goalless, and the Demons delivering their second-highest winning margin and third-highest score in AFLW history.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #28 Will Verrall

It was a tough ask for him to break through as a 199cm ruckman in the shadow of an all-time great in that position who is also the club captain. He had some good days at Casey but was unable to progress and was delisted at the end of the season.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #29 Tom Campbell

The 33-year-old Campbell has yet to play AFL football for Melbourne, but his Casey form has been strong and he has been retained as a ready-made ruck depth option who is widely regarded as someone who is excellent for the culture of the club.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #30 Harry Sharp

The Demons acquired an interesting player in Sharp, who narrowly missed securing a spot in the Lions’ premiership team last year. The 22-year-old medium forward played in the opening round this season and ended up with 18 senior games, although he was substituted in or out in for ten of those matches. He demonstrated glimpses of form, but ultimately ended the year on the margins of the team.

Worked his way back after a slow start and a further slump in form going into the midseason but became a solid contributor for the club in the latter half of 2025. Closing in on 300 goals for the club.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Gold Coast

On Friday, the Demons return to our Casey Fields fortress where they have a 77% win rate. The scent of September is in the air and the struggling Suns are on the horizon. The Cranbourne weather forecast? Ominous, like the match itself: a strong chance of carnage. Let’s be honest, last week’s first half against the West Coast was a training drill but we dropped our guard in the final quarter. While this match is a mismatch on paper — second versus seventeenth — football is won in the wind, the contests, and the moments.
