You’ve obviously got your wires crossed or are trolling. His role has nothing to do with ball movement. It’s an off field leadership strategy role.

Off field did you say OFF FIELD?? In that case then. I stand corrected!

I’m a fan of the Guera era. Not sure what this bloke is actually doing but he will have a strong purpose. All our appointments so far have been spot on since Guera came on (even slightly before) when he was working in the back ground

Or he'll be compensating for another's shortcomings (Richardson), like Cook is doing for Guerra.

Surely they wouldn't make this hire unless it had a specific focus we're not over as outsiders.

It'll be interesting to read what the club says about the role.

Clearly we now need someone to oversee the Strategy Department

I dont hate or love the appointment. I just dont understand what his roles and responsibilities are.

Ned Guy is being recruited as a big-picture level strategist, and has a track record of making tough decisions and being hated for it. Part of him must be thrilled that the Demon's have already made the toughest of tough decisions.

Early in his time as list manager he was under huge pressure to keep the list topped up by retaining and regaining 'beloved' Collingwood players, such as the ultimately disastrous trade for Beams (for pick 17 and the next year's 18) and the excessive long-term contract for Grundy - both of which we're resoundingly popular decisions made under board pressure at the time.

Later, he was deeply hated for making the salary-cap-management decisions to move on Treloar, Stephenson and Tom Phillips. I think hindsight favours him there.

From an article at the time of his departure from the Pies;

Highly regarded and well-liked internally, especially by those with an understanding of the dire mess Collingwood was in with its salary cap, externally Guy has worn blame for the ugly post season.

Quoting Graham Wright - "Recalibrating our player payments structure was a tough and necessary job. Our future payments profile is healthier in large part to him. In years to come his achievements will become clearer."

Thanks for that.

So he's a "list strategist". Useful appointment. Will be interested to see if we keep offering 7 year plus contracts.

Agree, are we getting too top heavy off field. What’s he going to do that should be covered by Guerra, Richardson and Lamb?????

Revisiting this, might shed some light:

"Competition sources have confirmed the Demons, who are on the lookout for a new senior coach after the sudden sacking of Simon Goodwin, are also making inroads into creating a new senior role – to be in charge of strategy.

The West Coast Eagles did a similar thing at the end of last season, hiring their premiership coach John Worsfold to oversee the football department in a role that the club said would include coaching structure, development, performance and culture.

If the club were to make the appointment in the off-season, it would mean that current football boss Alan Richardson, who is contracted for 2026 is part of the club’s subcommittee to choose the next coach, would answer to the new appointment.

The role would essentially sit between the football department and Guerra."

My question would be...why so many layers?

Coach (FD) - Football Manager - Strategy Manager - CEO - Board.

Wonder if Ned Guy is any relation to Gary Guy, who played 20 odd games for the Dees in the mid 70s? Or Eric Guy - St Kilda champion of the late 50s, early 60s?
