Collingwood were 0-5 for wins when trailing at 3/4 time.

Dont worry. It’s the Dees that will choke.

Melbourne had some small chance for revenge.

  • For the finals knock out

  • For Maynard ruining Gus’ career

  • For the Kings Birthdsy 1 point

  • For stopping us from making the finals in 2017

  • For the May line … “ we are better than them”

  • For the Ed Langdon … no duck line

  • For stopping Daicos win the Brownlow

  • For the whole of the AFL General population.

But no , Dees break your heart

Seriously 💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔

The oppos know that all they have to do is hang in there, pressure pressure and run the game out and we'll [censored] it up often enough for them to capitalise and win.

Talk about flakey. It doesn't get any more flakey than this team right now.

Just too many dumb, poorly skilled footballers that continue to hand the ball back to the oppo on a platter for the easy turnover goals and can't capitalise on fairly basic chances in front of the sticks.

Chances that most other clubs make and the better ones do so on the bit. We make the basic simple things look so hard and [censored] up too many straight foward opportunities far too often. That includes constant bombing instead of finding short targets when nothing is presenting inside 50.

They've had this mantra of kicking / bombing the ball deep in straight lines in an attempt to lock it in for a hopeful repeat entry or shot at goal for years and nothing's changed.

How often do you see space for forwards to lead in to or for kickers to make forwards lead in to but instead we miss kick it to no man's land or bomb on top of heads.

Surely the new coach has to have 'stamping this putrid [censored] outta their psyche / play book' on the top of his 'Major changes' list!!

Imagine following Tottenham and Melbourne… 😂🤡

One bottles transfers like crazy and the other bottles winning positions.

One season ends, another starts but seeing the same old [censored] in spite of being completely different sports.

Man City will destroy us.. gonna be a long 6 months until the start of 2026…

Mentally weak. As soon as the pressure comes on we revert to mindless footy. It’s ingrained. Big job for the new coach to reprogram this team

I think fitness plays a huge part. In particular with our mids defending the corridor and getting back to help our D50. The game always opens up in the last qtr and we leave canyons of space in the middle of the ground.

We saw it tonight, we saw it round 1 when GWS went end to end. We saw it against the Saints.

Collingwood could have been 7 losses in a row coming into this and I still wouldn't have had an ounce of confidence.

Selwyn Griffith has to go, we can't run out 4 quarters.

However, it's the mental weakness when the pressure is on with a massive crowd that is the most disappointing.

Definitely need some new sports psychologists at the Melbourne Football Club too!

Son, @Engorged Onion, can you please provide your services to our football club? Whoever is team psychologist is struggling to get the job done.

Yikes, calm it down.

You're not 'wrong', but you're not that right.

Right now I'm sure lots of fans can't ever see the current flaws/situation changing /improving. Of course that's not true. A few tweaks; even average 'game-finishing', even average team fitness, slightly better football intelligence, arguably better team morale etc etc; hell, even just a couple of these and barracking for Melbourne will be so much less frustrating!

Happy to be out of the industry. Thanks for validating me Mum 😘

Anyway. Glad the season is over and I’m sure all and sundry are. Time to reset, refresh and refine.

As many on here would have been, I was at the St Kilda, West Coast and Hawthorn games, which provided a 'nice' sample on the subject of 'losing it ourselves' (even v. WC, with its in-game moments of 'Uh-oh!').

This probably won't sit well with the many on here who'll be continuing to expect, and live on the expectation of, annual deep finals action: I've just realised that 2021 to 2025 has made me one of those, and I've lost a lot of the pleasure of following our team in a game-to-game - even a passage-to-passage and play-to-play - let-the-results-take-care-of-themselves way.

So, with all the newnesses of 2026, probably bringing with them initially tempered expectations from us and the footy world generally, I'm going to look forward to a bit of a period of that (hopefully brief!)

p.s. Sorry about the 14 hyphens, but what else would you expect from me?!

“We've got to learn how to win again."

Max Gawn reflects on Melbourne's season.

Well said Max.

Won 7

Lost 16

Lost 5 Beaten well and truly (NM, Suns, Hawks2, Cats, bombers)

Lost 5 we were in the game & could have got into a winnable position. (Crows, Power, Bombers, Hawks 1, Saints1)

Lost 6 where we LOST IT after being in front in the late stages (Giants, Pies KB, Saints2, Blues, Dogs, Pies2) … win 4 of these AS WE AT LEAST SHOULD HAVE and its a 11-12 season.

If …

I read this one on social media

“My count is the Dees are 0-8 in our last 8 games decided by under 6 points. This is not due to bad luck, but we simply don’t know how to close our last games.

Add in the back to back final losses in 2023. This side doesn’t know how to play the require game style in a close finish”.

Goodwin said they practiced matchday situations HOWEVER it definitely didn’t show out at all.

Max said it directly and perfectly …

WE NEED TO LEARN HOW TO WIN AGAIN

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
