If he can get on the park and show some form, Shane McAdam may well take Jake’s place next season - similar mercurial player, same height, but 3 or 4 years younger and quicker and has a better leap.

You would take a so far shizzen Mc Adam over a proven Melksham? In what universe!??

Hearing Kynan Brown set to be delisted. West Coast have expressed some interest in him for next season.

That's very disappointing if true. I thought he was worth persisting with for at least another year.

Clearly the powers that be (whoever they are these days) don't agree.

That winning tackle against North was one hell of a first involvement at AFL level.

Absolutely juvenile and disrespectful to our captain (again). I want him gone. Thanks for your contribution buddy, but you can sod off now.

Almost Looks like he's smirking through it. Peak immaturity.

It's not very respectful, but the whole things strikes me as the last day of school/work before holidays. Mentally checked out.

Disgraceful lack of opportunities!

The way May acts is exactly what I saw from the "cool kids" in my son's under 13 team. He abuses teammates, says things without thinking, carries on like everything is someone else's fault, undermines coaches and leaders, etc.

The only reason it has been tolerated, as it was in the under 13s, is because of his football ability. Now that he is a liability on-field as well as off, it is well past time to cut him loose.

It’s just relentless with May. Coming down from the Gold Coast with a beer gut, Entrecôte, the constant on-field sprays of his teammates, Dion Prestia, getting in the face of Max to a degree that made headlines…

I’m sorry but I don’t want this guy getting in the ears of our young and impressionable players any further. Great player when he’s on, but that’s an ever-diminishing return now. It’s time

“Culture” is the most elusive factor for the average supporter to fully understand. We know it’s important, but we don’t have the kind of access to the club to truly know where its thriving and where it’s festering. So maybe I’m being hyper-vigilant in my efforts to identify problems. But I’m pretty sure we’ve been staring right at one for a while now.

Yep, as previously iterated time to flick him.

Edited by picket fence

I’ve just about had enough of May’s poor attitude. Ever since he’s arrived, it’s seemed to be one rule for him and another for his teammates.

If we are trying to re-establish our culture of uncompromising and no excuses, I don’t want him anywhere near the joint. He obviously thinks he’s bigger/better than the team.

Good player, but selfish bordering on narcissism.

So May's gone then? A big part on hearsay? I wouldn't surprise if he does go. But be that on what the new coaches know is real rather than guesses.

Will be a miracle if he can still leap after an achilles injury.

I'm not bothered if may goes.

We have a beauty in turner now, who I'm confident will be a pillar down back for a long time.

Looking back now he's been great over the years & a key part in our premiership, but he's also been a headache at times.

Ðisco and Petty plus Plugga Mac yep like the sounda that!

Big deal

Not everyone gets on with their boss

True, but how many with reduced output and other issues, would be tolerated in a business, for also distracting younger employees, while the boss is speaking in a meeting, discussing the businesses’ current results.

Taking into consideration that we are obviously still keen on Wade Derksen who plays as a intercept defender.

I really want to see him forward now we have key back depth. He would take the pressure off JVR, Kentiand Jeffo etc

Couldn’t think of anything worse. Can we please stop with this May to play forward rubbish? IMO he’s either playing for another club or playing for Casey. Love May, but she’s all over mate.

On Xmas eve, when all the party poppers are ready and there are flights to catch?

The speech was unnecessary

Our captain speaking at the end of the season is unnecessary?

He spoke well, he set the tone for what we expect heading into 2026.

I don't really care what May was doing, I think it's being blown out of proportion, but to say Gawn didn't need to speak is just ridiculous.

If anyone should have the right to speak, it's the only senior player who actually delivered on the field week in week out.

Considering it's probably the last team meeting for the year and he won't get to address them again until pre-season due to the strict AFLPA rules, then yes it is absolutely necessary. Do you want the boys to take their off-season running seriously or do you want them to all set record low time trials on their first day back of pre-season?

Love a good rhetorical, ATBOG

The cameras were there, it was just too faux for my liking

A word salad doesn't win AFL games

Are you suggesting Max captains for the camera?

Heaven forbid a club captain has a few words for his team at the conclusion of a very difficult and disappointing season.

If only we had other leaders in the room who felt the need to speak up and say something. Instead it all falls back on Max, who is then copping it from fans like you for being performative and fake.

If Max says nothing he's a bad captain and leader, if Max says something he's putting it on.

Nobody is perfect, including Max, but I find some of the insinuations on this site in recent weeks about him absolutely categorically offensive and disrespectful.

Of all the players who have let us down in recent years, Max is last on the list.

The whole thing was fake

'Offensive' and 'Disrespectful' - ha! you don't mind a bit of hysterical word salading yourself

The footage with Gawn and May is quite interesting.

For one, it does look like May is at best not listening to Gawn, or at worst rolling his eyes right when Gawn says "we need to learn how to win".

But of course then remember that the club posted the video. So we had all the opportunity to see May's reaction before posting. And remember, too, that whilst seeing Gawn speak in the rooms is nice for us fans, the message was the exact same message he gave in his already-posted post-match interview (right down to the "there were three ways this game was going to go" stuff).

We could have just capped the video at Chaplin's address. We chose to add in Gawn's speech.

Did the club's comms team not see May's reaction? Or see it, but felt it was harmless? Or see it, and didn't care about it being shown to the public?

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
