might be a very good bet.

Has stayed under the radar really. Highly rated at Deeland

Be careful with those sorts of comments...

The 'experts' here on Demonland with 'inside knowledge' claim otherwise.

Nobody here has any inside knowledge into who will coach us next year.

I think Ratten would be in with a chance... from what I heard anyways

Coaching a country team < Assistant coach at AFL level, just my opinion,

I think he made a mistake, set himself back a couple of years.

Agree.

I was surprised that a player with 13 years of AFL footy experience would not be aware of what was involved in coaching at AFL re commitment.

He then went and joined a Club where the head coach and assistant coach dont talk to each other! Another bold move.

Can someone explain what Ratten tangibly achieved at MFC in 12 months that makes him so highly rated?

Well our midfield was hard and tough.

We won center clearances and run and chased.

In 2004.....

We had Scott Thompson fit then.

We had Jeff White who was an AA ruckman as well.

I struggle to see how there can be an informed insightful assessment of any assistant coaches from the position of a member/supporter.

As with everything on here it's an opinion.

Carlton's midfield is doing ok for the cattle they have on the park.

All I know is that the Melbourne midfield performed the best it had performed under Ratten as midfield coach. I know for a fact the players he worked with rate him incredibly highly. I know Carlton rates him incredibly highly.

I'm not saying he will be our coach, I have no idea. I am just speculating on the basis of what I do know.

Totally agree - I fail to see what Brett Ratten actually did for the MFC. We were well down the "clearances" ladder for the single year that he was the midfield coach and left supposedly because it was too far to drive.

He's staking his claim at Carlton - leave him alone.

also didnt he leave the MFC because he couldnt balance the high demands of the role of an assistant coach, travel and his family...I doubt that being a senior coach would be an easier balancing act for him.

Good points Tequila and Ologist.

I am not attacking Ratten but I have never seen anything beyond third or fourth hand hearsay about the regard for him and I question what tangible benefit Ratten can make within 12 months that is can be soo evident to averge supporter who is not close to what is happening in the coaches box or the training track. And for that matter why Anthony Rock has not been given credit for coaching the stocks he had given Thompson was gone, White diminished and McLean and Co young and OP stricken.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
