I note Tom Morris was sitting in the front row.

Read into that as you will.

Really well spoken by Goody, massive respect.

Does he want a coaching gig?

Got to say, goody coming across very well in this presser.

Yes, agree wholeheartedly

Thank you Simon . A most impresive presser.

Good luck.

Enjoy the holiday. It will be bitter-sweet no doubt.

No handshake at the end spoke volumes.

Goodwin can hold his head high.

Time for a new voice and time for a new set of eyes - I don't think Goody was seeing what everyone else could see, right up until his final words in the media conference.

That was a hard watch - I must say, it takes some bollocks to front the media and answer questions about your sacking: I could never believe that when I first moved here, coming from British soccer, where they are just straight out the door.

It sounds as if he was pretty blindsided by the decision, though - Greeny did as well as could be expected, in a role that he's obviously not super comfortable in. Let's hope it was the right decision: certainly, a lot of people have claimed it was needed - let's see.

Very challenging for Brad Green there.

On one hand he has to sell the message that Goody isn't the man going forward and justify the decision to sack him. Basically he's not good enough.

On the other hand he has to do his best to thank him for what he brought to the club and be grateful for the positive memories.

Goody handled that very well. Surely a Football Department Leadership role somewhere awaits.

it really irks me that Tom Morris gets the most questions...

Its never easy these decisions, but is required.

0-5 start, team playing poorly

Good on him for putting on his best press conference when he was sacked.

Im hoping for a no spin new head coach

I'm not a Goodwin fan, but I thought he conducted himself very well all things considered.

Green was pretty unimpressive and I feel less confident in our ability to navigate our way through this mess than I did half an hour ago.

All class from Goody👏

Goodwin was all class under trying circumstances. Good luck.

The phrase that kept running through my head. Will always see him on my living room wall with his '21 team and be thankful.

Just watched the press conference. One man squirming, the other so proud. It was so revealing.

A fish first rots from the head. The MFC carcass at the moment really stinks.

Goody was not the head, he was further down. Pretty much where the heart and soul reside. Clearly he still had his players on side.

The head of the fish consists of the Board and senior administrators. It not only stinks, it reeks.

They should all resign and / or sack themselves. We need new blood at the very top.

Once again to Goody, thank you for the premiership.

Goody pointedly praising certain individuals (PJ, Mahoney) for creating stability at the club for a 6 year period.

clear message - there has not been stability for the past 3 years

Yes, point well noted. We need to fix this.

There's a bit on our shopping list 😵‍💫

Love Brad but I reckon we should never put him in front of a camera again. Ever.

This entire club is now being run by caretakers.

I actually applaud Brad Green for being quite courageous in this decision. He's a little bit on a hiding to nothing here and I know I certainly had asked the question: had he the cohunas?? Well that's been resoundingly answered.

A hard decision to have to make. I salute you 🫡

So, do I take it from this that Brad Green has been guided in this decision by some people who live in the Victorian town of Cohuna? And did they tell him to act in a way that shows he has the cojones? 😁

Those having a go about Casey should get a grip, do you really know think that the home base issue just happened over the last few years we have been a caravan club since we left the G we had our chances over certain periods of time now people think this will happen now caulfield will still be a few years away if it goes ahead so if you are complaining about Casey what do you suggest they do, borrow anywhere from one hundred million plus to build one we are where we are deal with it.

Goodwin has always spoken really well. The end of the day the premiership window was slammed shut last year, we tried to keep it open but nothing worked. Do you back Goodwin for 5 odd years to rebuild or make a break, the board went for fresh start.

Now onto the playing group, the coach has gone, some calls need to be made on the group that played in the premiership.

hes an interim pres, not the pres, wont be pres when the new pres or coach starts. not sure what more he could say or do. he tried to show as much respect to simon as possible. public speaking is probably not his forte but at least they had the balls to get rid of him

Si senor !!

This place is toxic. Thousands and thousands of posts on sacking Goodwin, gets sacked, and in response thousands of posts on how much of a joke the club is.

The club can’t win. Maybe us supporters should be looking in the mirror a bit too.

Love you goody, thanks for some fantastic memories.

Enter Longmire please.

Class act in his media conference, alot to be said about the incoming board though- clearly a decision they were involved in, and I felt the club needed some representation from that board besides Greeny - he looked lost with some of the answers.

In all I personally think the club would have allowed at least 2026 for goody, but I guess time will tell now about that player/coach love they had, and I think we will get a fair understanding with that come the trade period, I've always said this club has been weak from a whole, but hopefully now with something as ruthless as this with 3 games left in a disappointing season, a shift will come that sees us become more aggressive with list management, and staff management. I really thought a few of the assistants may have got the tap on the shoulder before Simon, but I just pray that they already have someone decent in line.

In all just another chapter to the comic that is the Melbourne footy club. Interested to hear what Max has to say.

Cheers Goody.

It's Game Day and the Demons will be running out on the field with a new Head Coach, albeit a caretaker, for the first time in 3,060 days when they face the Western Bulldogs at the MCG today. What do you want to see from the Demons in the first match of the Post Simon Goodwin era?

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
