Well..

On the personal note...as a bloke I really wish him well. He has brought much to the club, unfortunately his coaching style hasnt bought any bickies !!

Now the air is cleared and we can all get on with it.

Sorry guys we'll try and keep it to one topic... no suprise it drew three or four new topics within a minute.

ND says the loss against Richmond had an influence, but he feels that its the best time for the players, club, sponsors and supporters for him to make it clear that he won't seek to be coach of the Melbourne Footy Club in 2008.

Says he WILL coach again somewhere else, in time.

He's not bitter, he gave it his best shot over 10 years. Says there's been a lot of circumstances that he could and couldn't control, that we've been through a lot in his ten years on and off the field, and that he's not bitter about it. Disappointed with where we're at, but he's done his best. "Circumstances this year", referring to injuries I guess.

Says some players might find it odd, especially this friday night, but we'll do the best we can.

Over rules club official to take a final question - says he told players just before, expected them to be suprised and they were, and now he's off to take training.

End of press conference

SEN have already spoken to Voss. He was coy, didn't want to comment.

must say ...I am not surprised. I wouldnt have wanted to have gone through that process knowing full well it was esssentially pointless.

Vosy is laying low...probably sensibly letting it all blow over A sign of of a cool head.

Thanks Neale for your service. It's sad in a way. He is a great guy and he did not deserve to finish his last season like this. Hope some of the players see this as a wake up call. You have let him down by insipid performances.

Now hopefully we can get someone who will toughen us up like a voss. We do not need Connolly or Harvey and not Pagan

This was probably the best outcome for MFC by ND making the call rather than the Club.

I wish him all the best.

I wonder if this will tame the effigy burning of him on this site.

I think he did the right and honourable thing ... see out what he can of the rest of the season, then hand over to someone else, without the drama of sackings and further divisions. Shows his quality as a person and his desire to do the right thing by the club.

I think he'll be remembered favourably in the long term for what he achieved with fairly minimal resources and a list without superstars. Wish him well if he goes somewhere else.

Rhino..its been quite weird really...as I dont think anyone ( well with a modicum of civility and intelligence ) actually hates the bloke. That in itself has always been the dillema and a cause for much appraisal being probably not as realistic and concise as it might have been.

He's a nice bloke... probably over 90% here would concur.

I ts , to me his coachng style and results that are the question.

But youre probably spot on.. there will now be a lot of .. good lucks etc.. all thoroughly deserved.

Its a harsh environment , sports coaching and management . But it IS results driven...and we simply dont have them !!

Well said Maurie, I couldn't agree more.......

Daniher has always been a good person, and most definitely did the best thing he could. As Maurie said he did the honourable thing.

And as such I want to wish him all the best for whatever he chooses to do in the future.

He has worked hard for a long time for this club, and that should never be forgotten in the face of criticism over where we find ourselves now.

A change is what seems to be required for both club and coach, and hopefully both can move on without recrimination.

So to Neale for all the years of service we should say thank you, and we can be grateful that we now have the opportunity to move forward.

Couldn't agree more. As a 10 year coach he deserves a lot of respect for what he's done for the club both on an off the field. Definitely the right decision though.

Hopefully in 5 years he will be doing a Robert Walls with Brisbane, talking about premierships won and how he blooded the next generation of stars at MFC that took us there... ;)

Where to begin?

Neale, thanks for ten years of wholehearted service. It's been clear that Daniher has put every last ounce of himself into the job, and then some. I couldn't have asked for anything more.

During his time at Melbourne, he's had to deal with distractions and difficulties he could have done without. Salary cap penalties in two national drafts, unstable boards, poor facilities, a cash-strapped club.

A Premiership is significantly all that's missing from his time at Melbourne. Realistically, I feel this was at its closest in his first season, the only season I can recall when I can honestly say that Melbourne would have been more worthy champions than the eventual premier.

Thanks for your efforts, Neale.

The players were playing for a friend and not a coach in the end..... Sad end for a top bloke!

Insipid performances is so true.... The bloke has been let down BIG TIME!!!

Best wishes to Neale, we'll miss you mate. One of the best blokes in footy.

It's a sad end, but probably the right one for all concerned.

Over the next 10 weeks we will find out which players want to wear the red and blue in 2008.

I personally wish him well into the future, but sometimes I felt he is just too nice a bloke for this gig>

I'd hate the wretched job and I wouldn't be reading websites such as this to make you feel even worse and even more friendless!!

yes...thats the next interesting aspect isnt it... If there was any complacency then the players with any nouse wll know its all about to change.

And on that note does this now also make sense for possibly Neeta to hand over to ..Brocky ( or whomever )

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
